In yesterday's mail, we received (addressed to our 22-year-old son) a 96-long video called "Dreams from my *Real* Father", by some asshole named Joel Gilbert, who claims Obama's "real" father was Frank Marshall Davis, a Communist Party USA propagandist who likely shaped Obama's world view during his formative years. Uh-huh.

Obama openly talked about his friendship with Frank Davis is one of his books. (I don't remember which one at the moment.) IIRC, he even mentioned Davis's connection with the Communist Party of the USA.

ETA: IMHO, all this birtherism and such is motivated by nothing more than a bunch of racists who can not wrap their heads around the fact that a black man is President of the United States.

Not that I can think of on the dodgy conspiracist friend question. J doesn't have much patience for conspiracy theories or theorists. But he did recently transfer from community college to a big state university, and we figure that these lists are probably bought up by all sorts of organizations.

And you're right. I know lots of people that I like but in no way share their politics, so that's pretty thin "evidence" against the president or anyone. Unless you're Joe McCarthy, or course.
