Geez, those Duggar girls look tan all of a sudden.

18 posts in this topic

During the last few new episodes has anyone else noticed how tan they are, particularly for episodes that were filmed a few months ago? Jessa and Jinger look especially tan. I just thought it was a little weird but still in sync with the changes in the appearance of the Duggar women during the last few years.

There's a post on Goatherd's new fitness/health regimen elsewhere on this board.

Maybe the tan/fit appearance is part of that.

They've definitely discovered fake bake. Even Michelle looks orange/brown in some segments, although from pictures from earlier in her life, she appears to have a had a bit of olive tint (or tanned more brown than more fair people like her husband). But in the middle of WINTER? Not so much. The Jergen's stuff is pretty cheap; can it be found at Aldi's?

Poor Joy and grandma are the ones who have to wash the remnants off the sheets on a daily, or near-daily basis (which is why I stay pale...I'm too busy to wash my sheets because I want to wear shorts or skirts when it gets warm). doubt Princess Jessa, in particular, cares about the stuff coming off at night since laundry has long ceased being her jurisdiction.

Michelle has had the "tan in a bottle" look for quite a while now. I almost hope they are going to tanning salons. Those spray tans are awful!

Maybe they were told to in order to look better on tv?? Sometimes they do seem a tad....orange......

I am not making excuses (and they've looked particularly tan for some time now, maybe even a year) but I did think back to the particularly awful sunburns the girls got while skiing - Jessa's was so bad you could see it in the promo pictures people had posted online before the ep - and since they had obvious goggle marks, I wonder if they attempted to "even" themselves out.

Ok, so let's keep track here...

It's not right for a woman to wear pants in the Duggar family, because it will outline their ass... BUT, they can:

-Wear makeup

-Mouse, tease, and perm their hair

-Use self-tanner

All of these things are tools to attract others/make yourself look better. I can't imagine that the same God that wants a woman to wear skirts to protect men from ogling their asses would be in favor of women trying to gain attention with makeup/tanner/etc.

What's next? I bet DQ gets a facelift.

Didn't they all get sunburns during the ski trip? Can you tan skiing? Maybe the girls had to 'even out' their skin tones after that trip.

Michelle, on the other hand, has been morphing into a giant orange for the past year and a half.

OMG you guys are just mad jealous of the crinkly perms, rocking tans and sparkly eyelids the Duggar women rock so well.

Actually, I am kind of jealous of the perms. At least I used to be. Can doing those perms over and over make the hair look worse? Because I think their hair looks sort of dead and over-fried now, but when they first started sporting the perms I was insanely jealous.

Nah, the girls, even Jana on occasion (when you can see her) have rocked the fake bake long before they got sunburned skiing...and you can get a worse burn on the slopes than on the beach. Ironic that Jordyn got into the sunscreen but it was apparently "too lowly" for the older girls to wear. Oh well, they certainly paid for it with ski goggle raccoon faces.

They are very pretty girls, but the fake tans and the crunchy, dry hair need to go!

Yes! Perming dries your hair, and as long as their hair is it has certainly been permed many times. My hair is naturally on the edge of wavy and curly but didn't get that way until puberty. I have read that Gothard thinks women should wear their hair wavy because it draws attention to the face.

Michelle looks like a freakin oompaloompa lately. The girls are gorgeous, but I think they'd be prettier with healthy hair and a little color (rather than overdone everything).

Can you imagine how clogged the plumbing in that house must be? And I don't just mean the toilets. All... that... looooong... permed... hair! Assuming they wash it in the shower or sink, there have got to be some serious hairballs going through those pipes. Not to mention the hair tumbleweeds that must blow throughout the house. We've already seen evidence that their housekeeping isn't that great (blackened bare feet, the nasty toilets, underneath the drink station), so I'm sure there's hair everywhere, too.

In the Little Rock house there was only one functioning bathroom. An old house with old plumbing and all... that... hair.

I used to have extremely long hair when I was growing it to donate to charity. I also have a cat whose fur matches my hair and he sheds a lot. I used to have giant balls of reddish hair in every corner of my apartment, and they were just impossible to keep up with. I can't imagine how horrible it is in that Duggar house with all that hair that is likely falling out faster because of the bad home perms.

Yes, you can tan skiing but most likely you will get a very nasty burn.

Or maybe another type of uplifting experience? After popping out a gazillion kids, "the girls" have to be dragging the ground. Can you imagine the industrial strength bra she has to wear?

Looking forward to the weekend - my German friend (pen friends since we were 13) are staying for 3 nights on their way home from holidays!  We've met 7 times over the last about 35 years and always enjoy time together.

I finally went to the dentist. She was impressed by how bad the infection had gotten even though I was on antibiotics. She wanted me to see a specialist today. Tomorrow, adventures with the Endodontist.

A very traumatic day in kittieland.  It was vet day again so I really needed to try to catch Bob for his first shots and dewormer.  I wasn't getting anywhere with all three in the room -- every time I put out food to lure him, the others ate it!  So finally I took advantage of Juniper and Arlo being handle-able (did I mention I've picked up Arlo once or twice now?) and I picked them each up in turn and put them in one shared carrier, and then put that carrier out of the room while I set about catching ol' Bob (I considered it a positive that Juniper and Arlo were getting a glimpse/sniff of the rest of the house while they were out there, even if they weren't in the best mood for it).
It took me forever but I finally caught Bob.  It required me moving the futon sofa into the middle of the room so he couldn't hide behind it.  He was pretty panicked and scrambling around the room but eventually I outsmarted him (or maybe he just decided to let me think that).  I released Juniper and Arlo back into the room after Bob was safely in the carrier and we headed out to the car.
When we got to the vet's, the vet gingerly pulled him out of the carrier with a towel, and then -- Bob escaped the vet's grip!  A comedy of errors ensued with Bob leading a chase all around the various rooms of the vet's office (thankfully not including the waiting room).  Garbage cans were upturned, and the vet himself nearly tripped over the fan cord as he tried to follow this kitten around the room.  Eventually the vet and the assistant and Bob were in a back room with the door closed to keep him in.  I heard them laughing a few times and then finally the door opened and the vet came out with Bob and a towel and a solid grip.  They promptly gave him his shots and dewormer, confirmed that he's a boy, and then thankfully put him back in the carrier.  I apologized for the mess and we left and returned home.  Oh, vet can't say if Bob is Maine coon -- he doesn't seem to have that extra ruff of neck fur to me, and he's so small (especially since he is theoretically 2 weeks older than the other two), but I would still love it if he turned out to be MC.  Of course I'll love him even if he doesn't as well.
Back home, I knew that blocking the hiding spaces under the futon was key to getting them out where they would have to interact with me; otherwise this process of taming was going to take forever.  So while Bob rested in the carrier in the house, I boarded up the sides and back of the futon frame, and then had another comedy of errors as I tried to get both Juniper and Arlo out from under the futon at the same time so I could slide it against the wall without trapping either of them.  It took some trickery but I finally did it.  Then Bob could come back into the room.
So, as if the trauma of the carrier/vet wasn't enough, now they are all back in their familiar room but their safe corner hiding spots have disappeared.  They have a few nook spaces where they can hang out, but nowhere that I can't reach.  They are not thrilled with this.  At all.
But their reward for the day was some yummy cream, which led to some detailed grooming afterwards:

Afterwards, Juniper was quick to return to her newly-found snuggler status:

While Bob sulked.  He was soon comforted, however, by his friend Arlo:

I'm really pleased that Arlo has allowed me to pick him up once or twice.  He's not yet approaching me, and all three of them still spook when I am moving around, but progress is happening pretty fast, and in another week or so I might feel ok about releasing them into the house (with some kittyproofing happening first, and only when I'm confident other people won't carelessly open the doors and give escape opportunities).  Maybe just a few hours at a time at first, with overnights and/or feeding still happening in the back room.  We'll see.  But -- progress!

What kind of birthday cake do I want?
Me birthday is Monday. I'm torn. I kind of want one of these 'dream cakes' from a local bakery. Cake, cheesecake, and mousse. They can do any flavor combo imaginable...
I love coconut but I'm the only one...
Mint chip? Peanut butter Oreo? GAH. TOO MANY CHOICES.
