Dillards 92: Prosecuting All Of Us

I don't think Jill would need to use JD (but wasn't it Joe who installed the backsplash) as a go-between as she still sees and communicates with Michelle, who stayed with her when she was sick.

Jill doesn’t need to write a book to support her family. Her husband has a family supporting job. Plus Jill lives in a lower than SoCal COLA. I also do not think based on what we’ve seen posted, that the Dillards live high on the hog. Conversely, the Vuolos like nicer/finer things and entertainment.

Joe installed the backsplash. Nice that Jill and JD had a moment. I never saw her as close to any of her brothers.

Did JB even allow that?

Ok, I didn’t know it was Joe did the backsplash. Well, I think the subject of parents came up between Jill and Joe, even if just briefly when he was at her place. The brother/sister conversation is going to have a different dynamic than a mother/daughter one. At any rate, Jill was feeling comfortable enough to head over to Joy’s. But I’m thinking there was a wedding the whole family went to since the trial (Claire’s?) so Jill’s been around JB.

My sister in law is a nut case(Trump and conspiracy lover), intentionally creating drama. Over the years I learned to mostly avoid her but not before our relationship got shot to hell. When I have to be at family functions where she’s present, I am always cordial, keeping conversation superficial and smiling for group photos. That’s as far as that goes.

If my ex husband and I can make small talk at our kids’ birthday parties, Jill can make small talk with JB at her sister’s baby shower.

I do wonder with the homeschooling if she’s done a bit more research into various curriculum options. After seeing what Israel has been doing at school for a couple of years, and presumably not wanting him to fall behind (especially if they want to return to public school in future), I wonder if the wisdom booklets strike her as insufficient like they do us. There’s a big divide between Michelle’s SOTDRT and a good quality school, but lots of other options out there in between the two. Jill may like homeschooling as an idea & way of managing her growing family, without having a totally uncritical nostalgia of her own homeschool education.

I agree and a baby is a great buffer for awkward convos. Let’s just talk about this baby! Let’s focus on him and not our issues.

Plus the Duggar baby showers are pretty darn big just from local family alone. I doubt Jill really has to do that much talking to JB besides hello and goodbye. I can see Derick and Jill both researching homeschooling options to see what is best. Derrick has quite a bit of secular education. I don't see him being dis-engaged from his children's education.

I don’t think Derick is going to do anything that jeopardizes his sons’ futures as Pistol Pete. Homeschooling, public school, private school, Derick is going to make sure those kids are prepared for and will be accepted into college.

We moved a year and a half ago into what we’d always been told was a great school district. After a year of fighting and struggling, I finally pulled my youngest son out and am reluctantly homeschooling my second grader now.  Even if you consider the school district when you move, sometimes it doesn’t work out, and that could be what happened with the Dillards too.

I agree - I'm sure Derick comes from a more normal background where education is valued and not mistrusted. And after seeing that Derick's studies have led to a secure, regular and reliable income plus a level of social standing and respect, I think Jill will want educational opportunities for the boys that were not afforded to her and she can't provide.

Just skimming through and reading how it could be easier for Jill to 'just' homeschool than send 2 of her kids to school all day.  I guess if she simply parks them in front of workbooks like the Rods are, it might be easier.  But even after a baby and surgery - there are car pools and help and it has to be easier to send them to school than to properly homeschool with a newborn and a surgery.  I really hope if they are at home, they go back.  It is a hope for their future.

Because schooling for kids at that age can occur fairly organically over the course of the day and can be interspersed with free time, structured activities, playing with neighbors kids, etc in such a way that she also has time for other things. One of the biggest misconceptions is that homeschooling involves recreating school at home. There are many effective ways to teach basic academic skills.

Our family when through an intense time and homeschooling was a gift in that there was far less upheaval for the kids. My older kids talk about that time with fondness and it’s pretty jaw dropping given we were dealing multiple traumas and challenges.

Shrug.

I expect she is homeschooling for a season. From what has been disclosed of her situation, it makes sense to me.

I am a big fan of education. But education does not have to look the exact same for every child in order for it to be effective.

I trust that D. Dillard knows that beyond early elementary school, Jill is not equipped to provide a well rounded, solid education. I doubt Jill will be homeschooling for the long haul. I hope she is allotting the proper time needed for her boys to learn and to not fall behind.

I just thought of something else that might play into the Dillards choosing to homeschool.  Didn't Josh and Anna live in Siloam Springs at one point?  Even though the M kids weren't enrolled in the Siloam Springs public school system, Josh's family did reside in town and unfortunately as we know, people do talk.   Maybe Jill and Derick don't want to risk Izzy and Sam hearing anything about Josh from other kids (whose families would talk) or even worse, get bullied for it due to just being related to Pest.  It would certainly make me think twice.

I think the Duggars’ time in SS was very, very limited. I know they owned the house for a few months when they were still living in Maryland (bought 2/15 IIRC), and then the news RE the molestations broke in 5/15 , and the family quickly returned to AR and moved to that home in SS. In July 2015  the news of Ashely M. Broke, and the family moved to the warehouse, and Josh was sent off to Jesus Jail. Didn’t the house move to an LLC ownership group in August 2015? Obviously the Duggar kids were never in a SS PS.

Considering the situation, of all the cities to pick for a relo, the Dillards picked an odd one.

I’m guessing they picked where there was a job offer, which is more than any of the other Duggars have done.

But his job isn’t in that town, or even in the state.

That's why I was surprised they went there after remembering Josh and Anna were there first.  I figure they must have gotten a pretty good deal on a house in SS, plus Derick's work commute is still doable.   Otherwise, why not just up and move to OK and be done with it?

I'd think Stillwell would have been cheaper than Siloam Springs. SS is kind of up and coming. His commute is something like 45 minutes each way.

Maybe he has a longer term plan that involves working closer to home. I noticed that Jill is posting far fewer pictures of the older boys that show their faces. Maybe she is slowly starting to learn the value of privacy.

I know I said this already, but damn, I hate how those schools are set up. Fucking nuts.

Our town does this,  too. We have a K-2 school,  then a 3-5, then middle school and high school.  Each school has about 450 kids,  except the high school has about 600 (since it's 4 grades). Pre-K, headstart, alternative HS and the district offices are in what used to be the third elementary school. This started because of demographics-- I live very near the K-2 school,  but there just are no longer enough kids around here to support K-5. Conversely, one of the other K-5 schools was severely overcrowded. There was also a big consolidation of resources by doing this (less duplication of library books,  PE and art equipment; easier for teachers to team teach, like with reading and math groups, etc).

It's kind of cool and kind of annoying. I live a 5 minute walk from the K-2 school but we had (horrors!) a 12-minute drive to the 3-5 school (or a bus ride). But the kids go through the grades with the same kids so going to a new school is not stressful--really just a different building. The part I don't like is there aren't new kids even at MS or HS. So they've been with the same kids since kindergarten.

I only have one kid so never had to deal with multiple drop offs, but the start and release times are staggered between schools (and none is more than 10-12 minutes from another), so it's doable, timewise. But multiple rounds of pickup small talk would have driven me batty!

I remember someone posting that Stillwell is a depressed area. I don’t know if that is true or not.

Stillwell isn't a suburb of a bigger city like SS is. It kind of stands alone with no towns immediately surrounding it. I would have thought they would have considered school districts, but since Jill seems to be homeschooling, that point is moot.

And yes,  think she's homeschooling. Absolutely no fanfare for Sam's first day of kindergarten. Not even a picture of a backpack. But then, who needs a backpack for homeschool? With the baby, I doubt Jill is taking them out much, Joy's reveal and a meet up with Jessa, aside. They do seem to get out on the weekends, so they are not totally cooped up.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
