  1. Looks like Daddy Mike's bullshit about his daughters not "yoking themselves to the government" has now gone out the window. According to her public IG account, Shoshanna & husband James have married legally:
  2. Gabriel Pearl is second child of Michael and Debi Pearl and it looks like he and his wife (Lori) separated, that is, have been separated for couple of years now. If you go on "No Greater Joy" site and clik the link "Meet the Pearls" at the bottom of the main page, you'll see that, while all of his siblings are introduced along with their spouses and children, there are just few words about Gabriel mentioning nobody but him alone. (Just go on their regular page.) It was not the case couple of years ago and the old "Meet the Pearls" link still exists and there, Gabriel is introduced along with his wife Lori and children. (Just google "Lori Pearl" and clik on the link bellow the first picture that pops up of her and Gabriel.) Further more, the remaining text is identical to the one before, apart from couple of lines about Lori, that have been cut out. Also, on his facebook page he has a post that (part of it) says: "It took a lot of prayer and an awful amount of support from my loving family to get my kids home after 2 1/2 years." (It's not private profile.) It is not a certain thing, but more of an implied situation as Pearl's choose to keep it quiet. If it is true, lets just hold this not only as an example of Gabriel's personal faliure, but as well as that of Michael and Debi Pearl, that is faliure of their ideology and their teachings. There is a certain objectivity regarding this matter - simple fact that Michael Pearl with his faith and knowledge of Bible, failed to produce a man who was able to chose his wife wisely and maintain a healthy marriage, which makes his advice about marriage and raising children, a questionable advice. I know that they are good people. At least they strive to be. I can value some of their advice, but the self-righteousness in their aproach to other people, both us, unbelivers "who live in the darkness" and fellow belivers, is unjustified. I would like to hear about your opinions and informations regarding this matter, aswell.
  3. Hi. Quick question: does anybody recall Debbie's book Preparing to Be a Helpmeet (not Created, Preparing) having been discussed somewhere? It must have been, but I couldn't find a specific thread, nor any posts (I searched for the words in the title and nothing came back). It's just that I've been gobsmacked by the videos (conversations, they call them) on No Greater Joy's You Tube channel featuring Debbie and a yound girl, a Kristen, I believe, giving a sneak peek of different chapters of the book. Here's one of the videos. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xbJPwXVtmKw I neeeeeed to join the snark, even if it's just reading old threads. These people. These. People.
  4. Ok, FJ, give it to me. PP's response to the Orlando massacre moves him even further up my list of Worst Fundies/Humans on Earth than he was before. But I want to know who your worst is, and why. Especially you guys who have been here since Yuku . Tell me. I want to know.
  5. I read a story on here about a fundie guy, who'd be middle aged now, who bragged about how he sleep deprived his bride on their wedding night. He was trying to beat his friend's record for most sex on the wedding night and kept his new bride up all night and then the next day dragged her crabbing without shoes on a shell filled beach at dawn and then made her clean and prepare the crabs while he napped. Then she finally snapped and lost it on him when he wanted to have sex again. Cabinetman? Or one of his friends?
  6. I was athe thrift store browsing the graphic novels when I saw one with his name (spits) on it. It's called Good and Evil and it's basically the bible with graphic drawings. http://www.amazon.com/Good-Evil-Michael-Pearl/dp/1934794376 I may have stuck a note in there saying he was a rapist and child abuser.
  7. After reading Jill's comments this morning about her and Derick trying to decide if they'll follow IBLP-sleep training it made me wonder if they will follow the Pearls Blanket Training technique? She seems to be so intent on doing everything like her mother that it seems like she rarely questions if it's really right to do or not, or harmful to the baby. I honestly can't imagine Derick going along with hitting a baby for crawling off a blanket. He might go along with the Sleep Training because a lot of people believe in getting a baby on a schedule but actually hitting a child for being curious? Can't see him being okay with that. I wonder if this baby will bring out a lot of their differences. People often resort to doing what their parent(s) did and wanting their child to have similar experiences that were positive for them. Derick, clearly, while having strong faith, did not grow up in such a restrictive anti-Secular environment. I wonder if him wanting (or his Mom wanting) to do things with the baby/child in ways that were normal for him but were not allowed in the Duggar home will raise problems in their relationship. Do you think so? I mean, according to the Duggars beliefs, the man is the head of the house and makes the decisions, but I can see Jill whining to her parents who might try to strongarm Derick into doing things their way. What do you think?

  9. At Recovering Grace a poster left this comment under "Failed Protectors" It sure sounds like them.
  10. I've seen this family's name connected with the Bates and Duggars so I looked them up. Not many surprises. The youtube videos of the family singing are okay, nothing great. Their main strength is that they can actually play musical instruments. I found this on their website. bontragerfamilysingers.com/Beliefs.html number 3 and 4 under their list of ten church goals What do they mean by adapting to their husbands? That sounds like something the Pearls would write. How does the church teach someone to love their husband and children? Here is number 8 ) There is no goal of providing food for the needy outside your own church. From the same page, this is how to build godly generations. On the plus side, at least they include that the husband should be a servant leader but the wife is still suposed to be submissive. I'm confused how the woman is supposed to learn to make appeals to the husband so that he can grow in being noble. What does that even mean? How do they decide when a child obeys his parents because he loves god instead of being terrifed of a beating? I don't see the Duggars marrying any of the Bontragers. John David would hate performing and his family needs his sisters to care for the babies. Like the Duggars, The Bontrangers make money off their children so although they might bring someone into the singing group but I don't see them letting anyone leave. Here is their store http://www.bontragerfamilysingers.com/Store.html edited. I changed the title of the thread because I discussed the Duggars also and I wanted to reflect the subject better
  11. http://www.duggarfamily.com/content/amazon_blitz Make of it what you will. If they're posting this, I take it as advocating the Pearls. We all know there's no way this side of hell they would post about a discount for the Anarchist Cookbook. So does this seem like advocacy, or a coincidence? Also I'm trying to remember what the name of their website pre-private domain was. It was a Geocities of Angelfire site, or something like that. I first saw it when I was with my first boyfriend, and we broke up prior to when the Duggars got their current domain. They were more open about it then. I think there are too many kids now to bother with "training", especially since they're just passed onto the older kids, who were clearly "trained" out of thinking for themselves.
  12. I don't know why they avoid the big question of whether or not they spank. I just found this little gem from quiverfull.com: quiverfull.com/articles.php/id20/ And from their website circa 2005: http://web.archive.org/web/200507060601 ... m/faq.html

    The Chair- a new punishment?

Hi Everyone- I am back- moving is not fun and neither is waiting for the Charter guy (personally don't like Charter- rip off) I was trying to find a video or the episode- I apologize I don't have it But did you see that Michelle now teachers the 'little ones' on a chair to 'be still'? Is this the new blanket training? It made me mad. Let the poor kid run and play
