Interesting that the authors are “Jill Duggar with Derick Dillard and [the ghostwriter].” I would have thought that Jill would use both surnames like Jinger did (though “Duggar Dillard” doesn’t sound very good).

I feel lik Jill's book is going to hit a lot harder than Jinger's and she wants the Duggar name out there because she wants the association with the show as she burns it all down.

watching the clips of them from the documentary, I wonder if Derek's parts in the book will go for the jugular more than Jill's, because that seems to be the cause with their documentaey interviews.

Just found this on Jill's Instagram account

Most comments celebrate Jill for the book. I only found one negative comment and the immediately got roasted

I also found these two comments

Jill answered to some comments "Thank you friend", but it wasn't anybody I recognised.

I haven't found any comments from Duggars so far.

I'm on mobile and don't know how to hide the fotos. I hope it's OK if I post them like this, otherwise please correct or explain it to me.

Based on her Instagram caption, it's definitely gonna be better than Jinger's book. The question is, which one is she dragging through the dirt? Her parents? TLC? All of them?

I’m not against tell alls. Hell I’m not even against Harry writing a tell all. I’m not saying I read it. Because I honestly don’t care that much about royal family. But I’m not against the idea of tell alls. People get to tell their life story and if it means they spill a lot of tea, then oh well. Jim Bob fucked his kids over and Jill should be able to put it all on the table and make money from it. She’s owed many dollars from JB. Professional child actors are paid. But not reality tv kid stars? Wtf?

I think her dad will come out looking like the piece of shit he is.

I really hope that Jill focuses directly on the people who hurt her. Yes, Gothard is terrible and all that, but Jinger's book glossed over all the responsibility that Jim Bob and Michelle had in fucking up their children. I really hope Jill acknowledges the people who failed her the most - not TLC, not IBLP, but her parents.

I also hope it prompts a conversation about how the Coogan Law should also cover reality show child actors . And YouTube child actors. If you are going to exploit your children for profit, you better bank some of that money for them too.

Jinger already talked about Gothard and IBLP, if Jill focuses on that too then what's the point of writing a tell all book? I think she'll mention them, but just the bare minimum. I sure hope she dragged JB and Meech through the mud. Derrick obviously has no problem with that, so maybe he won't prevent her from talking about her parents. Won't be surprised if she put it all out about Smuggar because his case is a public knowledge already. Come to think of it, if she puts what Smuggar did to her and her sisters, I hope it'll help to push the Ms to break free once they're older.

Comparing the descriptions of each book, I don’t think this one is going to be anything like Jinger’s book. Jinger’s was described from day one as being about her faith. The description of Jill’s book from the pre-order page uses much stronger words like secrets, manipulation, intimidation, and the power of truth… that sounds to me like someone who isn’t worried about what her parents think of her anymore and who is ready to have her side of the story told.

For comparison, this is the first bit of the summary from Amazon for Jinger’s book:

“Jinger Vuolo, the sixth child in the famous Duggar family of TLC's 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, recounts how she began to question the unhealthy ideology of her youth and learned to embrace true freedom in Christ.

When Jinger Duggar Vuolo was growing up, she was convinced that obeying the rules was the key to success and God's favor. She zealously promoted the Basic Life Principles of Bill Gothard…”

vs. the language used to describe Jill’s book:

“For the first time, discover the unedited truth about the Duggars, the traditional Christian family that captivated the nation on TLC’s hit show 19 Kids and Counting. Jill Duggar and her husband Derick are finally ready to share their story, revealing the secrets, manipulation, and intimidation behind the show that remained hidden from their fans.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines. She didn’t protest the strict model of patriarchy that her family followed, which declares that men are superior, that women are expected to be wives and mothers and are discouraged from attaining a higher education, and that parental authority over their children continues well into adulthood, even once they are married.

But as Jill got older, married Derick, and they embarked on their own lives, the red flags became too obvious to ignore.

For as long as they could, Jill and Derick tried to be obedient family members—they weren’t willing to rock the boat. But now they’re raising a family of their own, and they’re done with the secrets. Thanks to time, tears, therapy, and blessings from God, they have the strength to share their journey. Theirs is a remarkable story of the power of the truth and is a moving example of how to find healing through honesty.”

This isn’t a fluff piece about Jill’s faith; it’s about her family, the show, and the cult.

I see Jingers book as a “Gothard taught this, so my parents did that. They were just doing what they were taught”, whereas I’m expecting Jill’s to be more of a “My parents did this wrong thing to me because of the cult we were in” though I don’t think she will mentioned Iblp and gothard much unless some context is needed

Think all the ways Jill was eff’d by JB and M:

Childhood stolen by sistermom duties

Molested by her brother and offered no help (forced to do the MK interview)

Denied even a basic, useful education

Put to work as a youngster to help support the family

Denied any support in gaining independence

And seemingly worked, as a married adult, to enrich JB’s coffers.

Leave and cleave, but give any monies earned to JB.

WT actual Hell.

Anyone else see the new clips from the documentary that were released?  Deana and Amy are in it too.  And Jill and Derrick definitely don't hold anything back.

I'm very excited for the book. I do believe it will be more truthful than Jinger's books as she just traded one cult for an equally awful one. Jill and Derick clearly have big bones to pick over TLC and the way Jim Bob treated them when he was no longer useful to them. They will make a lot of money from this as it's been very much anticipated. I'm interested to see if Jill expands on her opinions on LGBTQI+ and want to see if she's grown and changed her original views.

I wouldn't want Jill to go into detail about what Joshua did to herself and her sisters because I obviously wouldn't want to retraumatise herself. However I would be interested in reading her account of how Jim Bob dealt with him and what she was told over the years. He and Michelle are just as guilty as Joshua because they protected him and lied several times in order to do that. That Megyn Kelly interview was full of rehearsed lies.

Derick was able to look at the Duggar and fundie world with fresh eyes as someone who didn't grow up in the world. Pretty much all the other spouses did as Jim Bob didn't make the mistake of letting another Derick in.

I have to wonder how much Cathy Dillard has influenced them as well.  As a mother she had to spot some of JB’s control issues when it came to Derick and Jill.

I still wonder if Cathy had been well and not fighting for her life in 2014, would Derick and Jill even be married?

No. Jim Bob got to Derick at a very vulnerable time in his life. I think if Cathy hadn't been facing health issues, and for sure if his dad hadn't died, then Derick and Jill would have never been introduced, let alone married.

I’m betting that Cathy has been a good support for Jill, and also a main catalyst in Jill realizing that her parents, their decisions and purported values were/are not healthy or above board.

What a hard realization that one can believe in God, be kind and moral, attend services, schools and work for a living vs grifting and still be decent people.

I found it interesting that Alyssa Webster specified that not only did she and John get paid for appearing on the show, so did her kids. Now the question is whether the Websters (and the other adult kids) pocketed that money or put it in savings for their kids.

I think it’s a given that Jill and Derick will be more aggressive in their criticism of Jill’s parents, specifically JB. Derick has made no secret of how much he hates him, and hates TLC.

For both of them the disillusionment is probably strongest of all the married daughters. Jill had always been the good child, people pleasing, Daddy’s girl favorite and Derick specifically sought out JB because he admired him. If you put someone on a pedestal and then feel completely betrayed by them, you’re probably going to be very angry.

Plus Derick being the 1st son-in-law, JB may have tried to get away with a lot more financial control. I can’t see fully adult, worldly Jeremy putting up with the same shenanigans, and can’t see Jinger trying to let her Dad keep control once she’d transferred her allegiance to Jeremy.

Ben was just a baby, and Jessa is good at capitalizing on social media - so I can’t see them being as angry about the financial issues. They are making lots of money, Ben is low-key, and they don’t seem to have expensive tastes. So why rock the boat. JB also may have coughed up some cash after Derick and Jill pulled out.  Jessa is aggressive in defending her family from the outside, but doesn’t seem to see Daddy as perfect- she says he has some of the same flaws she does, and  she’ll take some of her parents childbearing practices, but leave the rest  - so if she does feel betrayed by him I think she’d keep it to herself and give very few f*& about peoples opinions. Not enough to write a book anyway.

Joy was a lost in the shuffle middle kid raised by her siblings. She gets to live her ideal redneck (I don’t mean that as an insult) life, her husband seems to support her and doesn’t try to make her be girly. She probably didn’t expect a lot from her dad so wasn’t as disappointed when she didn’t get a lot.

TL/DR - of all the older daughters Jill seemed the most emotionally invested in their lifestyle and parents, so likely also the most disillusioned by the failings.

I work at a library in acquisitions/tech services. I'll get a copy ordered. It is already a bestseller on amazon. I do want to read it.

Or that it is okay to wear pants? Have friends other than your siblings? Have a drink? Go to the library? Get therapy?

These two are not perfect but they have come a long way. I never thought it would be Jill.

I think this is a big thing for people who are involved in very behaviour restrictive cults like this, especially if they have any kind of predisposition to think for themselves - eventually they're gonna see that all the doom and gloom forecast for basic every day things like wearing pants and "worldly" things like that are just complete bullshit. Because there's only so much you can really do to shelter someone from what 99% of the rest of the world is doing - the lies about those things will be exposed so, so quickly - it's kind of incredible they even try it in the first place. The second they get the least bit of exposure outside of what they've known growing up, they see the truth. Some will stay because they've become comfortable there or they're scared, but some (like Jill) will feel betrayed, lied to, and walk away.

This book, like Jinger’s, represents where Jill is at now, but probably doesn’t represent the end of her journey. Ask them again in 10 years and they’ll probably both be in a different place. Distancing oneself is a process, which involves many stages and may not look as drastic as many of us would like.

Ultimately, I think most of the girls will leave, but the timing and the process will look different for each. Most of them will likely stay fundamentalist or conservative Christian, but they’ll reject the legalistic aspects and hopefully end up in a less patriarchal, fear-ridden version of faith. The boys, in a more favored position, are less likely to stray far from their original faith.

I would like to be a fly on a wall in JB&M Duggar house these days. Hopefully the minors still at home are safe and none of this will make JB choose even stricter husbands for the remaining daughters. Hopefully some of the children can escape to their older siblings, but I'm not sure that'll happen.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?
