I know I've said this before somewhere, but I remember watching Bates and Duggar clips and always being struck by the different answers when they were asked about how many kids they wanted. The Bateses always said a definite number, or said something like "maybe 4-6", whereas the Duggars always said "as many as God gives us!" I know it's probably all scripted or whatever, but I just found the difference interesting. I don't remember any Bateses saying "as many as God gives us" unless I'm misremembering.

I think the Bates kids know that they can get away with saying those things. I think the Bates parents are controlling assholes. But I think they can get away with more than the Duggars.

Oh of course. That's what I find so interesting about fundies, that although they have very similar beliefs in a lot of ways, there are always small differences.

Yes. If you listen to ex IBLP folks talking about their experiences growing up in it, they have so much in common. But there will be times when they find differences like, “you got to watch tv growing up?! We were never allowed!” And it’s kind of funny. Because some families didn’t follow Gothard 100% and some did. I think the Duggars followed his rules pretty closely. But I’m sure there were plenty of families that attended the conferences each year and seemed all in that actually got to watch tv and movies at home and wear shorts in the summer.

I thought Erin was pregnant?

She is. It’s her second miracle pregnancy. She had two bad cases of Covid (and maybe some other medical issues?) and she had one ovary and part of the other removed. Her doctor thought that she would go into menopause. Either he was completely wrong, or she’s going through the egg release phase of menopause and won’t be able to have more children once it’s over.

How many kids will she have when this one is born? I gave up counting!

This baby will make 6, and it's also Carson's long-awaited brother after four sisters in a row.

Kelton gets a haircut.

He's talking about his business on an Instagram podcast from a barbers.

Tennessee Standard turnover is $ 1.2 million

Actually the 1.2 million refers to his uncle's business that Kelton expanded before he took over Tennessee Standard. He never gives numbers for his business but he has 12 tricks and 25 employees and wants most of his employees to be millionaires in 10-15 years.

This is beyond ridiculous. I know he has a proper business, but promising a team of plumbers they will become millionares makes me think in a pyramid scheme.

Eh, plumbing is notoriously the highest paid construction trade. In a low cost of living area, it's not unthinkable in the slightest that the guys could make $150K/year and save $100K of it -especially if they're able to send a team of plumbers into an area hit by a hurricane to take advantage of all of the OT available.

Remember, plumbing doesn't just include sewer; it includes gas lines too.

What on earth is she wearing? Did she trap and skin a diseased squirrel? I assume this faux fur monstrosity isn't washable.

I think that’s supposed to be feathers, not fur. I’ve seen it in other colors -supposed to be a Hollywood glam pajama look -  but the brown certainly does  give off a different vibe lol

Am I the only one that feels like the photos Josie posts of herself and of her and Kelton are just on the edge of crossing over into some soft porn? Starting way back at their wedding with his butt grab all the way to today's silk and fur pajamas.

It looks so cheap--you can see the bands where the faux feathers are attached. It really riles me the way the Bates embrace cheap fast fashion. They are doing a crappy job of being good Stewards of the Earth.

Well, most fundies are. I couldn't believe my eyes when Trace and Lydia visited the Duggars recently and they took the chopper to go for a cup of coffee. I mean, WTF? Here I am, feeling slightly bad for my one vacation flight per year, and those people are blowing kerosene into the atmosphere like it's going out of style...

Cheap fast fashion is so prevalent these days that I doubt young people could even recognize quality anymore.

Poor Michaela the seamstress--at least she probably recognizes good stitching!

The picture reminds me of a 80's advertisement. The faux silk pyjama, the curls, the make up...

That could be either a Joan Crawford cast-off or a reject from the Dynasty costume bin.

What bugs me are all the creases in the pyjamas- in fact almost all the dresses modelled in the Bates Boutique adverts are also crushed and  crumpled.

None of the sisters think to iron them before modelling. It makes them look so  cheap.

Well they are cheap tat really, but won't look as bad if ironed

My husband & dad are private pilots...I've eaten a lot of "$100 hamburgers" in my day. 🤣 Wayyyy back in the day before marriage and kids, when my husband was still building hours, we used to fly to lunch or dinner in other places all the time. No doubt these guys are just doing it for clout (we also didn't post our lunch flights on social media), but it's totally normal in the private pilot world.
