So they managed to split the vote in a ranked system? Agree they need to work within the system they have (and honestly just make it number all the boxes in order of preference - takes longer to count but only need one election!)

The problem that came with the House race was that 48 people showed up on the first round ballot. So we had to pick one out of 48, and then the top four progressed (Other than the drop out, and because of the timeline, they couldn't push the 5th candidate onto the ballot.) The system that the voters proposed in the ballot initiative was "top four." So the republicans COULD have had ether Sarah or Nick drop out as well, and not "split" their vote.

If the 4th candidate hadn't dropped, he would have pulled votes from Peltola and Begich; him dropping really helped Peltola win vs being eliminated in round 3 or 4.

IIRC, the top six were Republican, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Republican, Democratic Socialist. So once they decided that #5 wasn't allowed to be on the ballot due to timing, Begich or Palin could have also dropped and allowed the other R to hit the 50.1%, but they didn't do that, and then blamed it on the system.

I have been following new Dem senator (from my district) Jeff Jackson on Reddit.  It's really interesting, he's been posting about how things work in congress, stuff like how they get chosen for committees, how they choose an office, and all sorts of interesting everyday stuff about how congress works. I like how transparent he's being so far about how things are going and what it is like.

Apparently there's lots and lots and lots of coffee.

I'm surprised that Chuck didn't throw softball questions at Ron, since he normally gives Rs a big break. I hope we start to see more of this.

Down in the Des Moines area an elderly woman was declared dead at a nursing home and a funeral home picked her up.  They took her back to the funeral home where she was found to still be alive.  That had to have been a total nightmare for the funeral home staff, the family, and the nursing home staff.

In the wake of that Senator Grassley is demanding answers from the state of Iowa about this to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Quote

Sen. Chuck Grassley is demanding answers after a woman, who was believed to be dead, was sent to a funeral home, where she turned out to still be alive.

Grassley wants state investigators to share their findings to keep this from happening anywhere else.

In his letter, Grassley says Glen Oaks has had dozens of complaints since opening in 2001 and is claiming this is not an isolated incident, referencing a similar case in New York that happened on Saturday.

Now, Grassley wants to know when the DIA was first aware of the violations and their current involvement. According to the DIA's report, they visited Glen Oaks on Jan. 12., eight days after the woman was mistakenly pronounced dead.

I 100% agree with Chuckles wanting a through investigation and the care facility being held accountable for this monumental fuck up.

Same token though, my FJ corrupted brain immediately started asking if he was doing this because he was worried about it happening to him given that he was born in the late bronze age.

They also don’t like women in the military.

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Pig Ignorant) has been holding up all military officer promotions, even at the very highest levels, over the Pentagon allowing US military to access all reproductive health care, including abortion.

There is major concern this will adversely affect US military readiness.

Washington CNN —

"The Defense Department is urgently working with lawmakers in hopes of resolving a hold on critical military nominations, including for some of the most senior ranking officers, as concerns inside the Pentagon grow about the potential impact on national security, defense officials told CNN.

Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville has single-handedly blocked the nominations to protest new Pentagon policies ensuring service members have access to reproductive health care following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade last year. Tuberville first threatened to put a hold on DOD nominees in December, and followed through in March."

I wish Feinstein would resign. I appreciate all she’s done over the years, but she is now making things worse.

Hell, Kansas, even.  It regularly gets well over 100 in the summer here.
