I've honestly been expecting a news story to come out that he was deeply in debt.

Actually it would appear, from what I read this morning, he was a very wealthy man. Made millions on real estate and was not shy in sharing with family. Owner of several lucrative rental properties so I guess that income off-set the gambling. He didn't have a lavish lifestyle aside from guns, gambling and travel.

Still a mystery as to why, if he were spiraling down, he would chose to do something like this.

On SNL last night Jason Aldean opened by playing Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down," which seems very appropriate.
We just watched. I liked it! This is going down as one of my favorite SNL moments.
I don't listen to country music at all, but he was great!

Yes! This is what we've needed to hear from the beginning. The small speech Jason gave before singing. It's what we should've been told from those leading our county. Took JA to actually say something worthwhile. Made my night. This man feels the pain for real I mean he was front and center when it all went down

Do you guys remember that Dutch comedian that made the "Netherlands second" video that went viral?

Well, he made another one.

What!!???

That is quite the plot twist.

Yes, it is. The news is saying that now the speculation, and it can be nothing else, is that he planned originally to wait longer to start shooting. But wasn't the concert almost over? And it may also be why he decided he would have to commit suicide.

I don't understand how he thought he would be able to fire those guns that many times and no one would intervene and stop him. Did he really think he could just waltz out of there? That's quite a delusion.

It is what makes me wonder if others were involved and who was. And again, why. I am not saying a second shooter, but still involved.

I will admit it worries me.

I don't understand how he could have shot someone and fired rounds into the hall and then have nothing happen for six minutes before he started firing on people at the concert.

The speculation I've seen is that he probably knew he wasn't going to make it out without being caught or killed but that he may have planned to cause more mayhem before it was over. The only person who really knows is dead, though, and it wouldn't surprise me if he were seriously delusional.

Conspiracy theorists are going crazy over this. I think a lot of things about this event are weird, but I don't think it's any kind of bigger conspiracy. It's not a surprise that things change as the investigation goes on.

There are reports today that the Mandalay Bay didn't report the gunfire to police until after the shooter started firing on the crowd.

There's a lot of weird stuff about the timeline still, and it sounds like the Mandalay Bay doesn't agree with the police timeline.

Wasn't sure whether to put this here, or in the Milo thread:

:pb_rollseyes:

A quote from the article for those who follow the Mercers:

Quote

Yiannopoulous has started his own media company, Milo INC, which Robert Mercer is funding. Mercer has emerged as the most important funder of the far right: he made billions with his quantitative hedge fund called Renaissance Technologies, and bankrolls Breitbart as well as Trump’s campaign and legal funds.

A few new things from the last couple days.

The New York Times put videos together into a new, comprehensive timeline of the shooting. Their timeline puts the shooting of Jesus Campos in the middle of the shooting. I believe that's the fourth version I've seen so far, as initially the police reported that Campos was shot after Paddock was done shooting into the crowd, then 6 minutes before he started shooting into the crowd, then 1 minute before.

Paddock removed his hard drive before the shooting, and it has not yet been recovered.

Someone who should have removed his hard drive is Paddock's brother, Bruce Paddock (not Eric, the brother who was featured heavily in the media), who was arrested for child porn. The investigation predated the shooting.

A caller on the show "Savage Nation" claimed he was a neighbor of Paddock and that Paddock, like the caller, was a Trump fan. I wouldn't make too much of it, but it's a contradiction to all the right wingers who insisted the shooter must be a liberal.

Interesting.

Unfortunately, this is now a month old story and we know nothing about his motive. I am doubtful we are ever going to know.

I'm waiting for the conspiracy theorists to pick up on the missing hard drive.  They'll find some way to make Obama or Hillary (or both) the culprit(s).

Oh they're on it. Here are some threads on r/conspiracy where they discuss the hard drive.

Tucker Carlson is also stoking the conspiracy theories a bit. Here's a segment from last night:

At least Tucker Carlson is asking the questions I feel many people are asking. I find it bizarre that this story may have only lasted a week or two in the news cycle. I don't like getting caught up in conspiracy theories, but something is off here. When they kept changing the timeline, I didn't know what to believe anymore. I know things can change as an investigation progresses because that is the point of the investigation.

I find myself really curious about this story too in a way that I don't typically feel about these stories. I've been browsing conspiracy theory forums, not because I think there's actually a big conspiracy the way they do, but because they're pretty much the only ones still talking about it.

It is a sad testament to how common these events have become that a mass shooting of this scale falls out of the news cycle so quickly.

Oh for fuck's sake. This is why I hate conspiracy theorists.

Quote

Braden Matejka survived a bullet to the head in the Las Vegas massacre. Then, the death threats started coming.

“You are a lying piece of shit and I hope someone truly shoots you in the head,” a commenter wrote to Matejka on Facebook, one week after a gunman killed 58 people and injured hundreds more. “Your soul is disgusting and dark! You will pay for the consequences!” said another. A Facebook meme quickly spread with a photo of him after the shooting, captioned: “I’m a lying cunt!"

I don't have a problem with people pointing out what seems weird to them, but just stop before you call the person a lying cunt.

I really don't think of this as a giant conspiracy. It seems more like an intentional omission of information. I am not ruling out a cover up. I am also not willing to insist it is a cover up, because I really don't know...other than the story keeps changing, it is hard to keep up and "they" are certainly not coming forward with any real information. At this point, I am not sure the average person would believe what was said if "they" came out forward with a motive.

There are so many weird things with this story and the lack of information has made it really easy for the conspiracy theorists to go wild. People who haven't forgotten about Vegas have few places to turn for information and as stated, conspiracy forums and subs are still discussing. People flock there, discuss and come up with whatever conclusions they can. Complete lack of transparency is not exactly conducive of squashing conspiracy theories or garnering any trust.
