Intelligent Design?

Squid apparently try to mate with any other squid they encounter, male or female. The scientific hypothesis is that because they are generally solitary creatures, living in a dark environment, and it's difficult to distinguish male from female (particularly given that they only have moments to achieve this), throwing your "sperm sac" at any available target was apparently more evolutionarily efficient than developing the skills to distinguish male from female in the brief time available.

I would love to hear how this fits into an "intelligent design."

Somewhere, God is laughing... :D

I'm waiting for the WBC to show up and picket them, or for one of our "Children of the Corn" would-be Presidential candidates to introduce legislation declaring that mating is reserved strictly for one male and one female squid.

If there is a God, he has one fucked-up sense of humor that I can definitely appreciate.

Considering that two male river dolphins were caught engaging in the only recorded instance of "nasal sex", I'd have to agree with you.
