A seven sister goes to college

They really seem to have a blast in life while at the same time doing no harm.

What more could anyone ask for.

Great to see how super creative they are, and that they are all able to pursue their own individual interests.

Their blog easy to read and has some interesting content.

The two girl unsupervised trip to DC really speaks to their freedom.

They also really seem to enjoy the simple things that happen on their "farm" and each other!

Based on an old Christmas letter, Jessica must be 30 now, and the other several oldest girls are certainly all in their 20s. I wonder how much their age has affected their freedom -- Tabitha Paine seems to be in the same boat and operates fairly independently (even if that means living and working for the Duggars, who are apparently too lazy to do their own homeschooling now).

Certainly, the Richardsons are much more open to the world than our average fundies, and they seem to see it as a place to explore, not to fear or judge.

I loved the DC posts as well. I recall that they had a couple they met from that trip visit them and stay at their home.

The blog does not sound preachy or holier than thou. I always thought  part of being Christian is being out in the world and 'doing His work' even if it is in simple everyday activities. Not only for other x-tians and especially for those you don't want to. And your not supposed to make a big deal about it.Not that I'm a great example or even attend church.

OMG finally I go down a pleasant rabbit hole :my_biggrin: I didn't know about this family but I find them quite refreshing, as fundies go.

Methinks someone in the great beyond ought to orchestrate a Fundie Daughter Swap with the Maxwells... those girls don't know how much fun they could be having!

No daughter swaps.  I don't want Stevehovah suffocating the seven sisters' sense of fun.

Instead perhaps now she's abandoned the Moodys Sarah's next series could be about seven girls who live on a farm.  She'll need to research it in person, Anna can be her chaperone, and they can smuggle Mary along in their luggage.

A visit with the seven sisters would be so good for the Maxwell girls!

Yes, Cassia is training to be an EMT, but I'm not sure that would have helped. Meredith also had a family friend who's a paramedic with her. She apparently still didn't receive morphine or anything else to help her through the suffering.

And after her death one of the sisters (can't remember who now) was jealous because Meredith is in heaven now.

That is even worse than I had remembered.  It sounds like enforced redemptive suffering and it is frankly abusive.  I can't imagine witnessing that.

I don't know about Indiana, but in Hospice here all terminally ill patients <6 months to live are accepted regardless of ability to pay.  Donations cover the costs of the uninsured.

I was entertaining myself in some back posts on their blog this morning, and saw that back in July, when the were at the 4H fair, one of the brothers received a ribbon in one of the sewing categories.  The sister made sure to give him a shout-out, and said how proud she was that he is developing that skill.  Made my heart smile.  Imagine Smuggar learning to sew...

Maybe he (smugger) is learning embroidery and his little sign says "Thou shall not cheat on my wife. Thou shall not have sex with a sex worker. Thou shall not watch porn."

that should improve matters! Perhaps a daily reminder hanging on his wall is what he needed all along, to help internalize those pesky principles that are just so hard to grasp.

I short from saying they always look like they are having fun. Depressed people are usually good at putting masks on that make them always seem happy. We know o e has depression. She may appear to be happy, she could have been happy at the time the picture was took. But, it can not be a full picture of how they feel on a day to day basis.

The girl who admitted to having depression gives depth on their emotion. This girl/women gave depth to their every day lives. I love her because she admits to not being perfect and it's ok.

In their latest post, Anna has a few of her photos displayed in their new local hospital: freejinger.org/forum/203-quiver-full-of-snark/

I hope she is going here. It's still a midwife program instead of a certified nurse midwife program but it's at least at a two year program at a college. It also has a more solid background then the Duggars education.

At least the instructor is an actual RN, but she earned her midwifery degree online.  I didn't know that was possible.  I wonder if JB and Michelle knew that their precious daughters could have earned their "degrees" from the confines of their home.

I have never heard of these girls/women before. Now stalking their Facebook, I would have never guessed they were fundies just normal run of the mill christians. Until I seen their outfits. :ABON: The women get to do so much, they have a sense of humor, a life that doesn't revolve around taking care of the younger kids (or so it appears). I'm glad their parents let them live and be adults.

I find myself liking these women, because they come across so well, on their blog. They just seem to give the impression, that they see a person as a person, and not some future convert or sinful heathen. I find myself wanting to go to their county fair this summer, to find them, and strike up a conversation.

:agree:

I have a soft spot for them as well. They are likeable, and they keep it real; and I thought the depression post by Cassia was very brave.

I also like these girls.  Sure, they live and dress quite differently from me, but they do seem like people I could spend an amount of time with, and enjoy it.  Unlike pretty much every other fundie, ever.

Per their Facebook page, the Seven Sisters' father has been in the hospital and recently underwent heart surgery. They seem so innocent and optimistic, so this must be extra tough. I wonder if his faltering health has anything to do with the sisters beginning to pursue careers. Maybe they are realizing that they can't live like little girls forever.

Also-- and I am not a doctor, so I may be way off base-- I wonder if their father has Marfan's or a related disorder. They are a very tall and lanky family, and the mom commented that he is having a heart valve replacement and that this is unusual for someone of his age.

Oops, I think I posted this in the wrong place before, please let me know if this thread needs to be moved elsewhere.

Their blog has been quiet for a while, but per their Facebook page, the Seven Sisters' father has been in the hospital and recently underwent heart surgery. It sounds like his prognosis is good, but I imagine he will be out of work for a while. I wonder if his faltering health has anything to do with the sisters beginning to pursue careers. Maybe they are realizing that they can't live like little girls forever.

I wonder what that family would be like without the religion telling them to be so secluded. Would they have gone to college? Marriage? Peace corps? They seem so nice on the surface.

I haven't looked up the Seven Farmgirl Sisters in a very long while and was pretty sad to hear that their Dad is sick. Of all the fundies discussed here they, and Rebecca Eleventy, seem to be the ones I just can't snark on too much. I mean, there's a ton of snark worthy stuff about them but they are so sweet and seem like they'd be cool to hang with.

I was super excited to see that Jessica went to the Women in Aviation conference, and hung out with career women, talked to people on the plane etc...

If only they didn't dress like a scene out of a Laura Ingalls Wilder novel (and to be fair, LW probably didn't dress as conservatively as they do). Someone needs to show them that you can dress modestly and still modernly. You can head cover with a beret or a stylish scarf. I see Orthodox and Muslim women do it so well so it's totall possible.

I really want Jessica and the others to start out with real careers, not just waiting for Prince Charming "jobs" that will do them no good if he doesn't show up. As a pilot I bet J would actually increase her chances of meeting someone, and of loosening whatever holds her religion has on her. As long as I've "followed" them I have never understood what their belief system is, it seems that the men in the family don't follow it and their mom doesn't seem to adhere to the dress code they follow but she is pictured so rarely too.

Anna Christina (who also has some photos on display in their local hospital), is going to Guatemala for 5 months, starting in January, to volunteer at an orphanage: http://sevenfarmgirlsisters.com/

She will probably do more good in DangerousCintralAmerica in one day that Derrick & Jill Dillard did in a month.
