The "Clean Reader" app

In the days before I got my own computer (Jesus - 2007), I remember browsing on the PCs at Nottingham Library which obviously had Safe Search. I only realised how strict they were when I searched for "hardcore bands" and it obviously thought I meant porn not punk!

Jeez, this makes me want to download the app just so Google Play will let me rate it. The reviews are fairly positive (only a hundred downloads so far and a handful of ratings) and they respond to all the negative reviews. I just don't get the point. There are plenty of wholesome books out there, totally G rated.

If you can't handle the language and content an author chooses to include, you don't deserve the privilege of reading their work, IMO.

I wonder if the pearl clutching public who utilizes this app does so on non-fiction as well.

Surely I wasn't the only child that devoured banned books because there was inevitably something juicy in them? Me thinks this may have the opposite effect than intended.

I sincerely thank all of the parents out there that tried to get books added to the banned books list--it improved my education greatly.

I totally get you. During "banned book week" last year I looked at a list and chose a couple I'd never read for old time's sake. I tried so hard to get my daughter to do the same, even making her choose a couple at the library. Yeah, she thought I was crazy. She doesn't have my rebel spirit, sadly. My dad was always proud when I purposely chose banned books as a kid. We were just talking about it the other day, and how he always did the same.
