Hypocritical Christian Restaurant Patrons

We tip extra if we go out on Sundays to make up for the nonsense. I did some brief work as a server in college and Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons were a nightmare, with Sundays the absolute worst.

We went out for brunch today. I've discovered my favorite server is now swapping table assignments with other servers when we show up. That might be because in addition to tipping higher if we go out on Sunday, we tip higher to make up for the homophobic idiots in the south.

Mr. No and I always leave a 20% tip when we go out. There was one and only one time that we didn't tip and that was because we got horrendous service from the manager who had to step in because the lone server in the crowded restarant couldn't keep up. Not sure why it was understaffed so badly but the manager was totally rude even as we tried to be understanding of the situation, our order was completely messed up and we had to wait 20 minutes trying to flag someone down for the check which we weren't even sure was correct. It was complete chaos and no way was I even tipping this guy for the abysmal service. It was the one and only time we didn't tip because we were just flat out offended at the treatment. Looking back maybe I should have tipped but given it to the overworked server even though she didn't serve us.

About a year ago, we tipped a waiter more than our 20% because he had provided outstanding service during a busy evening and tons of crabby customers in the restaurant. As we got ready to leave, he came over and thanked us profusely for the tip.

I find that most servers really try to do their job, and even when we encounter one who is a little crabby at first, they usually lighten up when you show you are not going to treat them badly. I really, madly hate folks who treat servers as the "help", I really do. Unfortunately Mr. No's parents are like that and there have been times I have been completely embarassed to even be sitting at the same table with them. Yeah, I know they are my husband's parents but that seeing how they treat servers at times really ticks me off.

Something similar happened to us a few years back, too. Our server told us the staff looked forward to our visits and asked we be seated in their section. I was very touched. Who knew that tipping well, treating restaurant staff with courtesy and not leaving a mess would be so well-received? ;-)

I've been out of the church for a long time now, but I would be EMBARRASSED to be associated with a group that acted out every Sunday because they were "forgiven".

I always wondered what kind of tip Boob leaves when he takes his eleventy million kids to a restaurant where kids eat free.

TLC picks up the tab. I read here on FJ that when Boob and the filming crew go out to eat after a day of filming they are rude, leave a mess, and don't tip well.

Wasn't there an episode a few years back where they went to some (chicken?) restaurant that offered free kids meals so all umpteen of them ate for the price of maybe 4 meals? Bet he only tipped on the billed price.

I work sunday's at an animal shelter and yep, Sundays are the worst. I think it's the sense of entitlement? I actually had someone say --well, scream-- IM A CHRISTIAN WOMAN.

My husband and I frequently take our kids out to a restaurant where kids eat free on specific times. Granted, we only have 3 kids old enough to eat out but we always, always tip as if we had paid for those meals.

I live in a country where working is forbidden on Sundays (except for some stores that have an exemption because making money is more important than respect the right of workers ...) I admit that this is the only thing that unites socialist atheists like me and Catholics in the demonstrations against the government xD I HATE when tourists complain that everything is closed on Sundays (which is false. Shops are closed, yes, but not some restaurants). Yes, dear tourist, workers have rights, I know it's shocking, and these rights are more important than yours.

Amazing, isn't it? My parents always tip well (and during the holidays, if they've been eating regularly breakfast at a place, they actually go and get those money-holder holiday cards and stick a crisp new $10 or $20 in them and give them to ALL the waitresses on the breakfast shift and the fry cook.) Needless to say, they get excellent service and, very often, freebies like extra bacon or a third pancake where there would only normally be two, and such like.)

But then they know how hard the servers work. Mom was, back in the day, a carhop at A&W...who had to pick up the tab for the glasswear if patrons took off with the iconic mugs, which, evidently was not an uncommon happening.

This is true even when shopping at the local grocery store. Mr. No typically does the grocery shopping for the week on Sunday mornings and he makes a point of getting there early, around 8-9 AM before the church crowd shows up. He can tell that the customers who have just come from church and they are more rude and are just PITAs overall. He's a pretty patient guy but he finds them annoying enough that he goes earlier just to avoid them.

I agree with other posters that these people must have used up their allotted "nice" for the week.

Even the Pioneer Woman (she has a cooking show on the Food Network) says she tries to shop on Sunday before the Baptist Church is finished. She is a church going Christian, too.
