Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty) goes on crazy homophobic rant.

Same here.

I am also appalled by the number of women I know who are all, "He's just saying what it says in the bible!" Really? Did God himself say "It seems like to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on dudes! But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man." That statement just makes me CRINGE, and I don't cringe easily. Especially given his history of philandering - something about the bro tone of "Heh, heh, get what I mean, dudes?" is just horrifying. Yuck.

Well clearly he has never watched plain old porn aimed at heterosexual men. Because virtually all of it involves anal sex and homosexuality.

It's just women's asses and 2 women together.

Being a redneck doesn't mean you're hateful and prejudiced either. There are plenty of rednecks who wouldn't say the kind of stuff that Phil just did.

I realize that. I was referring specifically to the Robertsons.:)

There are hundreds of videos on youtube of him bible thumping. I've watched a bunch and even the one that labels itself as a prior rant seems out of context of another video where he was railing against university professors:

Regardless, they seem exactly like the duggars: Hateful "christians" who cherry pick passages to suit themselves and their lives while judging others. Both families were "made over" by television networks to hide the giant ugly mole on their foreheads but Phil, unlike the Duggars, was dumb enough to sit down with a national magazine without his makeup on.

I respect his right to say what he wants and I respect A&E's right to kick him off their soapbox. As for the Robertsons taking their ball and going home? Not so much. I'm sure there is a contract and a licensing agreement and you dont get to hold your breath and stomp till you get what they want.

Oh, and A&E is owned 50/50 by Disney and NBC - other owned networks include Lifetime, History Channel, Military channel... so they cant just jump to another owned network and pretend like its a compromise (unless they want to go play on disney).

In other news of extreme christian behavior this holy season... the CEO is reportedly (by TMZ) receiving death threats.

http://www.tmz.com/2013/12/21/a-and-e-d ... robertson/

Phil Robertson disrespected gay employees at A&E ... and THAT'S why he was sacked from "Duck Dynasty" ... sources connected with the network tell TMZ.

We're told A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc felt she could not in good conscience ask gay employees to kill themselves for a show when he disrespected them by calling them sinners.

Our sources say ... gay employees involved in the production -- and there are a number of them -- were outraged by Phil's comments to GQ and wanted Dubuc to give him the ax.

We're told Dubuc felt this way ... If Phil had made similar comments about African Americans or Jews ... there would have been a public outcry for his head. She felt it was just plain wrong not to have the same sense of indignation when the comments were directed at gays.

Our sources say GLAAD was heavily involved in lobbying the network to 86 Phil, and they had an impact.

As for TMZ's criticism that A&E knew full well what it was getting with Phil when they hired him ... as one source put it, "He just took it too far with GQ ... especially with the coarse language."

Our sources say A&E is adamant -- this has nothing to do with being "anti-religion." Fact is ... the network runs lots of religious programming, notably, Mark Burnett's "The Bible."

The CEO is paying the price. We're told she's been receiving death threats.

That's one thing I hate worst about religion how people pick the parts (and usually misunderstand) they want to use as a tool of hate but ignore the parts that say not to do such things. to sin when pointing out others sin is a sin.

Cracker barrel removed their merchandise for ONE DAY but have now apologized to their customers for offending them (yeah you heard me) and put it all back out, along with a statement that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Not surprising. I am not expecting much from a company that treated gay employees like crap.

if you don't like religious intolerance don't practice it. Right there in the bible treat others as you would want to be treated. The worst people that practice are it.

I'm even seeing gay people saying they stand with Phil now. This one guy who is very out and proud and rainbow-y said he supports Phil because Duck Dynasty is such a good, wholesome, CHRISTIAN (capitalization his) show and he's sure that if Phil knew him he would like him. Agh.

I'm sure Josh's Aunt supports him as well. ;)

I've gone back and forth with this, but I'm starting to agree with previous posters and stuff popping on the internet now that says that perhaps this is a strategy to get out of the contract/licensing agreements with A&E with everyone saving face?

Though I'm not sure things will quite work that way if Robertson thinks that he'll get a higher percentage of merchandising or whatever, honestly I don't know enough how that legal stuff works, so it could be possible? Or maybe he just doesn't want to do the show anymore, and this way he gets to look good to the fans rather than just "quitting", members of the family that still want to do it still can, ect.

Like others, I'm also shocked/angry that his very racist comments are being almost ignored by the media. Everything he said was horrible, but everyone's focused on the "he said gays were sinful" part. HE PRETTY MUCH DEFENDED JIM CROW AND YOU'RE GOING TO IGNORE THAT?!

I think I purged my facebook of all the angry conservatives I know, so I thankfully haven't been subjected to that. However, if I DO see someone standing up for him, or crying persecution, I'm going to assume they're filthy racists as well.

And I know it's TMZ, but DEATH THREATS?! For suspending a bigot from a tv show?

edited for riffle

I have seen that too and one of my FB friends who has a lesbian sister said she stands with Phil. I agree with many other posters the stuff he said about black people was worse and it shows that he was ignorant to issues of the black people he worked with in the past.

If Phil and the rest of the family end up on another network, someone should tell the Robertsons that since they believe in the Bible, none of the wives or other female relatives should be on the show and/or if they are on the show, they shouldn't be allowed to speak in order to follow the Bible.

I've seen a couple extremely far left people supporting him based on the idea that corporations have too much power, and your employer shouldn't be able to fire Anybody for their opinions, no matter how vile. And this is basically further proof of capitalism turning people into the Borg.

It might be one of those issues where some of the far right and some of the far left circle around and meet.

I would be more inclined to agree, except I think reality stars are a different entity than a regular employee.

A reality star is different than a regular actor or employee because they allow themselves, as in their true person, to become a brand. When Tom Cruise goes on a scientology related couch jumping rant its OK, because thats HIM and not any particular character owned, molded, and nurtured by a network. He just walks into wardrobe and becomes whatever or whoever the script says, leaving his person behind.

Reality stars dont have that luxury. They are "on" 24/7 by their own choice. They are not actors they are, by definition of the genre, "real." So, when Phil Robertson wipes off his makeup and shows the world that he is what we all here know him to be he damages his brand. He agreed to it, he was paid well for it, and he failed at it.

We all know the last thing these networks want is for people to take to google and try to peek behind the curtain and see who their adorable duck hunters are. They're not the cute and cuddly hand holding jesus loving love thy neighbor kumbaya folk... Should 'Merica have known that they likely had the wool pulled over their eyes believing that their favorite wednesday night family wasnt all hugs and rainbows? Yup... but we've seen it before and we'll see it again.

In the end, lots of people will buy T shirts and various DD boxer shorts (as noted above in violation of teh bible). Some people will watch the show more and others wont. The sun will come out tomorrow.

I liked this article which pointed out Phil's comments about blacks. I think that comment show some naivete in Phil, sure he may not have seen with his own eyes black people being mistreated, but the people he worked with were mistreated. It is very likely that the blacks working the fields made less pay than Phil.

Robertson's defenders should read his comments again, because their defenses are off-point. If you're defending Robertson, here's what you're defending:

Robertson thinks black Americans were treated just fine in the Jim Crow-era South, and that they were happy there. " I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

Robertson thinks the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor because they didn't believe in Jesus. "A ll you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups."

Robertson hates gay people. Robertson in 2010: " Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions. They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil."

I kind of wish they had cited the source of the last one. Regardless... :pink-shock:

Even lesbian porn (made for lesbians rather than men, no less) has anal, because it's something people of all walks of life are into. Incidentally, I was friends with a gay man in a committed relationship that included living together and they never had anal sex because my friend thought it was disgusting.

Everyone's talking about what he said about gay people and that's good, but it would be better if the focus was on the truly despicable comments he made about black people. I am so fucking sick of stupid white people who think the civil war era was some glorious time because they watched too many movies where black people are friendly and cheerful servants and the white people had unrealistically glamorous lives.

I know he wasn't talking about that era exactly, but most fundies focus on then. For him to compare himself to a black person in any way just proves how ignorant he is. It doesn't matter if you're white trash. You're white and you're male. You have massive privilege compared to those black farmers, even farming cotton.

It's bad enough that a lot of the comments he made are going unnoticed, but it's worse when they are noticed and defended. People should be absolutely outraged but they reserve their indignation for A&E for exercising their rights as his employers.

That is, assuming it's not all some gross marketing stunt.

Sadly, we live in the era of stupid people ruling TV.

I can't even feel smug saying that because I am hopelessly addicted to crack a.k.a Toddlers & Tiaras.

I have a love/hate relationship with reality TV. There are some reality shows that piss me off and there are others that I enjoy. I admit to loving Victoria Gotti's reality show which aired about 10 years ago on A&E. There are some reality shows that don't annoy me at all, but there are others that do. We have witnessed the post show meltdowns that have happened for a few people examples are Jon Gosselin and Heidi and Spencer.

What kind of pisses me off is that some reality show stars actually make more money than some actors on scripted TV shows. Yes, you can argue that actors and actresses are overpaid, but many do work hard at their craft and in my opinion they deserve to be paid more than reality show stars.

The Robertsons are basically the redneck versions of the Kardashians. The Kardashians shows will eventually end. In a way, I give the Robertsons credit for making their wealth before the reality show. The Duggars damn well know that they signed for up a reality show to further support their large family.
