Humans are all susceptible to a phenomenon called “Illusion of Truth†-- After repeatedly hearing a lie, we start to believe it’s true.

I genuinely believe that, with enough lifetime indoctrination, fundies actually believe what they're saying to be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Shoeshine Mary, Zsu and Lori come to mind :angry-banghead:

Yes. The indoctrination is akin to brainwashing. I"m still trying to figure out what is true and what is not 10 years after leaving my fundie church.

When you start indoctrinating children at a young age, it is doubly powerful. This was the reasoning of Joseph Goebbels, famous Nazi propagandist. "“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. "

I think this applies to many things people believe.

I don't know what the real truth is, but... if these fundies are right, I don't WANT to be right.
