To PETA.

hazardousjourneys.org/expeditions/international-expeditions/canada/

So let me get this straight...

You dislike the fact that environmentalists have an "unnecessary" concern about the plight of the polar bear and have used it as a symbol of global protection. You then plan a trip to kill said (innocent) animal (who did not ask to be the face of environmental protection) to somehow prove...what?

And to whom are you attempting to prove anything to?

I know that many people hunt, and that is really not my issue here. I'm disgusted by the careless and wanton act of killing something for no other reason but to make a point and piss other people off. It's not like polar bears are in abundance and encroaching upon areas where humans live. It's not like they plan to use the polar bear for food or some other necessity. They are traveling to the polar bear's domain and killing it for no reason other than to make a statement about their sick, twisted, and MISCONSTRUED concept of "godly dominion". What sick fucks! They would deserve whatever PETA "throws" at em! :angry-fire:

I'm no fan of PETA, but watching them go after Dougie would be hellamusing.

This is absolutely stupid and crazy. They want to kill a polar bear just to make their stupid point? No way, we all need to report this, and not just to PETA.

Posted

Wouldn't they need a permit to go hunting? Are there such things as polar bear hunting permits?

I put a link to the trip's page on my Facebook and wrote this:

Hazardous Journeys Society is an organization founded by Dominionist Doug Phillips, son of the politician Howard Phillips who died this past week. The mission of the organization is "to give glory to God, not man, as part of an exciting effort of world exploration. The purpose of the HJS is to provide teams of intrepid adventurers, photographers, students, scientists, journalists, and naturalists with an opportunity to engage in journeys of discover around the globe and to interpret their findings from a perspective that honors the Creator. " So, to further this mission they will be traveling to the Arctic for the express purpose of killing a polar bear. Why? Because "the polar bear is the iconic symbol of global protection and environmental concern", and they don't like that. I'm not a supporter of PETA but damn, someone needs to stop this trip.

If we all do that and enough people write to PETA and other wildlife organizations maybe this trip can be aborted.

OK, just went and checked up that web page. So, basically they want to kill a polar bear to prove a political point? Not only is Doug Phillips a Tool, he is one fucked up piece of shit.

Can someone take a screen shot? I don't quite know how to do it myself, but we should save the evidence of this page in case Dougie and Co decide to take the information down. Being the p*ssies that they are, I wouldn't put it past them to remove the information, but continue on with the trip.

Here you go

Just a quick websearch. But, it costs around 35,000 bucks for a permit to kill a polar bear, and you pretty much have to be an Inuit, or buy a permit off an Inuit. It may be illegal to shoot one in the US because they are on the protected list.

Cost is probably not a factor for them. Maybe though having to have a permit will be the way they don't get to do this.

Disgusting. Polar bears are endangered!

Obviously overcompensating for something...maybe Doug The Tool should get some viagra or something.

Posted

Maybe the bear will eat him instead. Although I wouldn't want to wish the subsequent indigestion on the poor bear.

l can't figure out how to report them to peta or l would.

I figured they were going to do it in Canada because of looser restrictions. We discussed it a little bit on one of the older HJ threads. In the US, you have to have a subsistence permit. There are a limited number that can be taken per year, and it's very dangerous. Doug and company are NOT up to the task. This could be a very bad decision.

I believe this is the link to report cruelty to animals: http://www.peta.org/about/contact-peta/ ... uelty.aspx

Wonder if Dougie and Co. have purchased a permit. Is there any way to look this information up?

Thx to those who took screen shots! :text-thankyouyellow:

I forwarded a link/screencap to the World Wildlife Fund. Hopefully between them and PETA pressure can be put on Dougie (Is A Tool) and his passel of manly anaconda hunters.

Is Dougie trying to become some modern day Ernest Hemingway (minus the woman beating and booze)? If so, I hope Papa himself returns from the grave to whoop Dougie's ass and steal his sled dogs, leaving him stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Jesus was all about killing animals for sport, doncha know? After all; the the Tool preached it; so it must be true!11!eleventy1!1.

I wonder what makes some Christians see endangered wildlife as "God gave them to us, so we need to protect them" while others see it as "God gave them to us, so we need to exercise our right to kill them all!"

There is some bible verse they quote in Genesis about God giving man "dominion over animals."

Funny, how Dougie's mantra for his "Baby Conference" was "The triumph of life over the culture of death!" Yet he seems to have no compunctions about "reclaiming the axe" (his recent Earth Day post), killing endangered wildlife for sport, or taking down just about anything else he deems suitable for killing. It's called hubris, Dougie. Look it up.

Dougie has no idea what he's up against. Polar bears are extremely dangerous animals. Polar bears are the only bears known to actively hunt humans. Also when an attack does occur they won't stop because you play dead. Unlike other bear species they will continue to maul you until you are dead. A part of me wants to just say "You guys go have fun" and see what happens.

However, polar bears are critically endangered animals and this definitely shouldn't be allowed. Especially just to prove a point.

I hate these winds. They are absolutely HOWLING here in SoCal. Not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight because I'm so afraid we'll get sudden evacuation orders the way we did with the Woolsey fire in 2018. There's no way of knowing when and where a fire might crop up and once it does, there's no containing it in these winds. I'm praying for the safety of our brave firefighters. My heart is with everyone in the Pacific Palisades and in Eaton Canyon near Pasadena.

The world doesn't need more people. If people want to have children, that's fine, but there is no reason we have to keep having more people.

      Winter snack: crispy chickpeas
Preheat oven to 400 F. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas, then toss in olive oil and whatever spices you like. I use fried chili crisp. Cook for 15 minutes, stir, another 15 minutes, stir, repeat until they're crispy and delicious. Good as a snack, on salads, etc.
I am sharing my super secret chili crisp source just because I love you guys:

Happy New Year, all you amazing people! I just saw a (possibly joking) tradition online called Yule Boasting.

      My quick text version:
i will begin 2025 by distilling a barrel full of tequila from the agave plants in my yard, assisted by george clooney, who admires me greatly and will be sad and heartbroken when my plan moves ahead without further human assistance.
sky-clad, i will find my familiar, a malevolently clever curve-billed thrasher named Willie Wildman. together we will roam my neighborhood, putting together an animal army consisting of a coyote pack, a squadron of javelinas, and my local great horned owl pair, perseverance and ingenuity.
we will all consume mass quantities of tequila, paint our faces blue, and set out on yucca broomsticks to reach our nation's capitol.
we will swoop down on DC, screaming and howling, occupying first the capitol and then the white house, where we will become co-presidents and replace congress with the yacht-sinking orcas of the mediterranean. AND EVERYONE WILL FUCKING REJOICE.

It's crazy to think that it has already been 25 years since we were worried about what would happen when the calendars would switch over to Y2K.
