Anything by the Indigo Girls. Better yet, lets take them to one of their concerts. The female energy (99.9% of audience) at an Indigo Girls concert made it the best concert I have ever seen in my life.

Why can't I embed this shit? Fuck me. It's X-Ray Spex (Oh Bondage Up Yours).

If you use the youtube prompt, all you have to do is insert only the video id between the brackets. The id code is whatever comes after the v=

Like this - *_AS4bBEMT44* (But remove the asterisks.)

I'll add some ideas from decades ago, and from the Broadway/film crowd:

For SAHDs and many of the Fundie parents (like the Pearls):

A song from South Pacific that always moves me. Two main characters are balking at marriage to people with whom they've fallen in love -- one is a Pacific Islander, and the other has two children from a previous marriage to one. They've previously discussed how they just can't help their racial prejudice, but one of the them comes to his senses:

Only the Good Die Young- Billy Joel

Rehab- Amy Winehouse ( for Jana, given that she was sent to Gothard rehab this summer)

Especially these lyrics:

Take me, I'm alive

Never was a girl with a wicked mind

But everything looks better

When the sun goes down

I had everything

Opportunities for eternity

And I could belong to the night

Your eyes, your eyes

I can see in your eyes, your eyes

You make me wanna die

I'll never be good enough

You make me wanna die

And everything you love

Will burn up in the light

And every time

I look inside your eyes

You make me wanna die

The Smiths' "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" reminds me of fundies who run away or are kicked out. It's a great song, too! The Smiths are awesome.

Aaaahhh... heres a good Dolly one! PMS Blues!

And while I'm at it, I might as well add Karen Taylor Good's "OBG Why Me Blues" (Seriously if you dont know this song, LISTEN! I swear this link is safe. It might make you download the song, but its perfectly safe... I store my music on here all the time so I can recover it if I need to)

Victoria's Secret by Sonata Arctica ... nothing to do with the underwear

The light escapes her room tonight.

Every little moment tells her, now it's time.

Opening a new scar, closing the wounds with a knife.

No more crying in the lanterns light...

Leave with the first light, go when you still see the moon.

Run for the sunlight, gate is now open for you.

Dancing on the path and singing now you got away.

You can reach the goals that you have set from now on , every day.

There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past.

Life is waiting for the one who loves to live, and it is not a secret...

What a fun idea for a thread!

Somebody's Watching Me- Mysto and Pizzi

xkf95onRgcc

The fundie girls seem to have such a lack of privacy. Maybe it's my own paranoia speaking, but I'd feel like it had kicked up to 11 if I had to live their lives. Maybe this would help them realize exactly how much they have somebody watching them.

Control- BoA

QaG1hi5qt4c

Pretty self-explanatory. Lyric in question: You can't tell me what to do/last time I checked I don't belong to you/If you try just know you will always lose

State of Emergency- Alien Ant Farm

2BWqmVnkWsQ

This song reminds me of the way that the fundies become fundies- they start off simple enough, then they start to ignore the signs and refuse to leave. "There's always room inside this state of emergency" indeed.

Born This Way- Lady Gaga

CDRhFdU5YyI

This song pissed off a bunch of fundies when it came out. And why wouldn't it? It has lines like "God makes no mistakes." That doesn't match up with their worldview at all.

ET- Katy Perry feat. Kanye West

OehxXNCYvTM

Because I like this song, OK?

I Want Out- Hammerfall

RPil1JIPo8Q

I couldn't decide whether or not to choose this version or the original by Helloween, but I like this version a bit better. It might speak to some of the SAHDs who want out but aren't quite willing to admit to it.

Wretches and Kings- Linkin Park

F4er9gIn9hM

I also like this song, and it's kind of hard to explain why I picked it for this list. If you listen to it hopefully it will make sense as to why I put it on this list.

Hit the Floor- Linkin Park

yQ_BiMRWahU

This song got me through some difficult, existential-crisis-y times when I was in high school. Maybe it could help some of the SAHDs as well.

I think this is one of the funnest threads ever! Tori was already mentioned 3 times, but I'm surprised no one thought of Crucify. I kid you not, this is the song that took me out of the IFB mindset I grew up with.

q8ljHOSqc4A

I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets

Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets

I've been raising up my hands

Drive another nail in

Got enough guilt to start

My own religion....

Why do we

Crucify ourselves

Every day

I crucify myself

Nothing I do is good enough for you

Crucify myself

Every day

And my heart is sick of being in chains

For the Daughters Botkin:

Because their hearts belong to daddy...

GS-NponTvYw

they will never have a white wedding...

tgFh4RHgn0A

so they really will be dancing with themselves (with all that it implies).

FG1NrQYXjLU

I wish we could save them so they could end up too drunk to @^#&.

You Are Disturbing- The Horrorist

BKgCiJg8wQA

A reminder to not become like their parents, or they'll be very disturbing people.

And for the rape apologists among them: Me and a Gun, another Tori Amos pick.

"Yes I wore a slinky red thing

Does that mean I should spread

For you, your friends, your father, Mr. Ed"
