GOP Senate candidate: ‘Legitimate rape’ rarely causes pregnA

I am really, really scared about the outcome of this election (Missourian here).

Yes, it seems like a lock for McCaskill, but she is getting all sorts of attack ads excoriating her for supporting Obama and the Affordable Care Act, all of which appeal to hard core conservative "Obama is a socialist" idiots, who would probably never vote for her over Akin even if he came out and directly said rape doesn't exist and those sluts should get what they deserve.

I'm another scared Missourian too. I agree 100% with what you just said. Hopefully, he keeps doing this and some votes wise up before November.

What in the actual fuck is a legitimate rape?

Good question. I guess the rapist leaves a filled-out form, declaring that you were oficially raped. They can be picked up in Akin's office.

These people never cease to disgust me.

Thanks for the link. I want to abandon the planet after all.

No, he sits in the U.S. Congress as a representative of Missouri.

The idea that Todd Akin is a representative in the United States Congress should make us all ashamed. Anyone who works with him or who voted for him should be ashamed. His mother should be ashamed for not teaching him right, his wife should be ashamed that she sleeps with such a fool, his children should be ashamed that they have someone so ignorant as their father. I'm terribly ashamed and I've never heard of him until today.

From now on whenever the words Todd Akin are typed, the words embarrassing buffoon should immediately follow.

WTF is "legitimate rape." Crazy shit like this makes me wish I still lived on the Missouri side of the state line. I would love to vote against this psychopath! However, I must content myself with voting against all of the crazy Kansas politicians, which gives me plenty of crazies to vote against, though sadly most of them will end up winning. All I can really say is go Claire McCaskill.

this is the scary part trying to redefine rape. only violent brutal rape is real rape is what he is saying. and of course he is a fucking idiot. Shows how religion and stupidity goes and in hand and someone like that should not be making laws.

Methinks this guy would love to decriminalize rape. I feel that someways Rome is a few years away from burning down. This is what the end of an empire feels like.

+1

I feel like we are spinning into a second Dark Age. The sheer ignorance that even goes in to coming up with a term like "legitimate rape" makes my hope for the planet decrease like Sarah Maxwell's chances for marriage as each year passes...

I don't... I don't even. I couldn't do anything more than sputter furiously when I first read this. I keep trying to come up with something interesting to say and I can't get past the angry buzzing noise filling my head. Completely appalling.

I would very much like to use this quote of yours when I post this on my Facebook. I am unsure how to credit it properly though without people tracing me back to this forum. :(

Is that a response to me? If so, I'm confused.

My sense of outrage at what Todd Akin said probably didn't come through. I can't even begin to express how I feel about this piece of elephant dung. I was just trying to explain how laws which used to codify "rape" now speak of "sexual assault."

But as to Todd Akin's assertion that a virtuous rape victim will not get pregnant, that's just fucking horseshit. We know that's not true.

After shit like this, if anyone dares to argue with me that extreme patriarchy doesn't exist in mainstream America, I'm fuckin' gonna hit them with a hammer. We women are being reduced to a status that is even lower than a clump of cells. The fact that anyone would defend this dickblister is proof of that.

of course the apology is just trying to make him look like he cares. of course he meant what he said but he had to do something about it because of the feedback.

Having just read his "apology", this is what frightens me:

He promised rape victims "will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve" if he is elected.

No stronger advocate than this guy? Really?

No stronger advocate for JUSTICE. But no abortion or morning after pill.

His statement goes on to state he doesn't agree with abortion for this, and thinks it's compounding the tragedy of rape by harming another innocent.

He then goes on to bash the democrats for the economy. He's trying to change the subject.

What a DICK.

The justice they deserve. I'm guessing in his mind that's probably none if you're not one of his perfect rape victims.

Look, sogba! My pet's online! I'm sure she's a rape apologist like this asshat. *edit* Aw, she left. :( And I wanted to teach her new tricks...

At least you have a pet, Anxious Girl. I'd love to have a fluffy little fundy of my own. My pet would implicitly condone rape, hate gays, and misquote the Bible... I'd stroke its fur and feed it kibble.

Akin is clearly a misogynist lunatic who can't tell the difference between actual science and rumours of voodoo spells. This theory has all the scientific validity of the "only witches float" theory that saw women who were suspected of witchcraft being drowned.

I do need to question the role of the Democrats, however, in this mess. According to the Huffington Post, the Democrat candidate actually supported this guy's campaign, and then goes on the attack when he says dumb shit like this. This just makes me cynical. Look, I understand that any candidate wants to get elected, but deliberately supporting the most offensive candidate? If he actually wins, the Democrats have to share some of the responsibility.

Yeah... That's what I want to know. I was under the impression that rape is sex that happens without one of the partner's consent. So, legitimate rape is when that happens and illegitimate rape is...not a thing.

It occurred to me today that the entire Christian religion is based on the rape of the Virgin Mary (technically speaking, I'm not sure what you would call the implantation of an embryo without the mother's knowledge or consent). So maybe that's why these arseclowns think rape can be "legitimate" vs "non-legitimate", in their fantastical worldview? They have to make the distinction to blot out the cognitive dissonance and justify the conception of Jesus...

That's true, one Christmas Eve, I went to the late night service at a UCC church in the oldest church building downtown, and the minister suggested that the Virgin Mary was raped by a Roman soldier.
