Candy explains Aspergers

70 posts in this topic

This is a real gem - if you have an hour to waste and several alcoholic beverages by your side. Candy takes a full hour to explain to the world what it is like to live with self diagnosed Aspergers.

Give it a click if your stomach can handle it.

Well, I'm nine minutes in.  I have learned that their Christianity is the only non-false religion.  I have learned that most of the prophets were 'Aspeys (sp?)'.  Also, not all versions of the bible are exactly the same, therefore most are, um, wrong.  I'm not worried about Candy though because she has found the correct, right and true one, and, by the way, she's very good at reading it. Candy is not only a truth-seeker but also has the gift of prophesy.  So, that's awesome. Hmm, I learned something else. What was it?  Oh, yes, evolution is a joke.

Candy's husband seems to be wearing a modesty camisole type thingy. I feel like punching him.

I will try to slog through the rest later as I am also a truth-seeker. And this here is the truth, folks.

9 minutes is impressive. I made it not even one. I can't listen to her and it's even harder when I have to see her while listening. My brain isn't special enough to handle such greatness, I think. I clicked here and there and lasted seconds at each point. Then just gave up because it is the Friday before a long weekend and it's a happy day.

Who is this lady?

She's a long-time blogger (at least, I remember reading her blog when we were immersed in the fundie lifestyle). Her blog has gone by several names (or maybe just different urls), as I recall. I found her current blog through a link on her Youtube channel, and it's not a name (url) I recognize. But the style - ah yes, the style remains the same.

Her specialties were cleaning schedules and prophecy, as I recall.

There was an entire snark site devoted to her, though I don't remember the url anymore.

FJ has been talking about her since the yuku days. (I found a thread from 2010 when I googled just now.

Here are a couple of more recent FJ threads:

She's  charmingly nuts.  I remember there was a time when she was harping on about headcoverings and modesty while simultaneously posting selfies in revealing athletic wear (to show her weight loss).

She is a walking contradiction. While she continues to harp on modesty and headcoverings, she posts videos of herself - constantly. One of the best was the swimsuit one with her come hither stares at the camera as she did her version of floating in a hot tub.

I forget that there are so many newbies here who don't know her history. From god telling her to shack up with her husband before marriage to being a genius recruited by MENSA to aliens and dinosaurs - there is just a plethora of crazy in the woman's past and no doubt future as well.

And I remember her video on modest swimwear she shoot at her local swimming pool ... and which turned out to be on the hinge of grubby Candy softcore porn :kitty-shifty:.

@fundiefan Or that one time Sasquatch throw rocks at her  :D.

Oh, I forgot about Sasquatch! Good times, good times.

The gubment was bugging the house she and hubby shacked up in pre marriage because he had some answers to some problem - I think an alternative energy source? - that the gubment didn't want to get out. They were followed and all sorts of fun mysterious stuff.

A friend in that same house was miraculously able to walk after some saving thing Candy did. I don't remember the details. (I consider that a good thing).

When Candy was saved, by the way while living in that same bugged house, she glowed, literally as she came down the stairs. Everything about her appearance was glowing and radiant because, Jesus. And everyone noticed it too. And she never again wanted to listen to rock music or use swear words; in fact, it made her physically ill to even think about. Those are some magically strong effects of true salvation. Immediate change, and glowing. Or, something.

She was a model while she homeschooled herself. High school or college, I don't remember which.

She's been in fights with many a Pastor because she is right and they are wrong. Always. And when they refuse to bend to her when she clearly shows them the error of their ways, she leaves the church and has to start all over again in a place that doesn't know her.

She latched onto the Aspergers thing a year or two ago and it gets bigger and bigger as time goes on. She uses it as blame for everything she says and does, particularly the rude, narcissistic stuff.

She's a gem, our Candy and I always look forward to what is next.

Usually spelled Aspie, I think.

Wearing an undershirt with dress shirts is pretty mainstream for men (unless I'm misled by growing up in a fairly fundie church) but I love calling it a modesty camisole!

She shouldn't claim to be on the autistic spectrum unless she has been officially diagnosed, Same goes when parents attempt to claim their badly behaved kids must have ADHD. People may have one or two traits of the condition but that doesn't mean you have it.

I will try to slog through the rest later as I am also a truth-seeker. And this here is the truth, folks.

I made it halfway. Here's what I got, which is mostly the same as you got for the nine minutes.

Apparently aspergers should not be labeled a disorder and Candy will not call it high functioning autism as it is now been relabeled to be autism (Candy is older than I am and growing up I never heard of aspergers. Autism was a rare disorder and only involved children who were severe. It was expanded and children I knew who were “odd,” or socially “weird” I can actually see them now as being part of the high-functioning autistic or aspergers. Not sure why this is bad. I think this helps to understand those “odd” children better. It doesn’t mean they are troubled or unintelligent, many I knew were actually rather smart, just very “weird”). She refuses to put high functioning autism and aspergers together at all. In her mind they are different claiming HF autistics have speech trouble and aspergers do not. Erm, her speech is not that great. She claims people with aspergers tend to speak earlier than most children. I spoke very early, not HF autistic or aspergers since she wants to separate the two. Also, who is not using aspergers anymore? I hear that all the time, but it also labeled a form of HF autism. Apparently she can’t seem to connect that they can be the same thing without removing a terminology?

She is using her “handy-dandy martha stewart notebook” to talk to us. Not mocking her here, just noting that she appears to have a little bit of speech problem. It is mild, but I can hear it, a bit of a lisp. Am I the only one who feels that the term lisp was made on purpose to mock those with it as they try to say what the problem is with their speech? No? Just me? I never had one, but it always seemed like they mock them by making them say the word. Anyway, back to the video.

So, first we must get saved and her having aspergers/HF autism was his will and it helps her to live her part in the body of Christ. Anyone else distracted by the poorly little girl braided pigtails? Seriously Candy is much older than me, it is long past time to lose the pigtail braids.

Note: The term "aspie" used is how Candy's husband used the term.

Like Fascinated I discovered that the Bible is true duh and Christianity is the only non-false religion and god really did make us all. How special! All non-Christian religions you are wrong, sorry. Your books and texts are false, theirs is correct. Aspies also have a special place with god. Also god only wants those who want him, so if you “talk yourself out of it” then so be it. Doesn’t say it, but think he means the majority of us will go to hell. God is testing us to see if we will believe in him, it’s one of his tests in life. Like Fascinated I also discovered that most prophets were aspies and so was Jesus? Aspies are the best “tools” for god and they are gods best people. King James in English is the only right bible too. Her batty eyes and forced looking smile to her husband are creepy during all this. And omg, I just realized who her face shape reminds of...Arnold’s Grandpa on the show Hey Arnold! Now I feel a bit terrible that I compared to that.

As Fascinated said, I learned Evolution is a joke and fairy tale and even scientists and scientific equation, the whole evolution “thing” is a baloney scam and would fall on its face if not for the mainstream media according to Candy’s husband. Those are his actual words btw.

She has messy handwriting and has bad fine motor control. She exercises often and it helps her think better and she does not know why, it just does. Exercise is good, but there are actual reasons as why it likely helps many people, neurotypical or not, but science so bad. She calls it on the spectrum despite saying earlier she did not believe aspergers to be on the autism spectrum. The sensory overload and meltdowns are typical of children with any form of autism. But all children can have this at times. Also getting exhausted after socializing isn’t aspergers, it is called being an introvert. She has problem with eye contact, but she can look others into the eye, just can’t talk and look into the eye. Most of what she claims sounds like introversion and maybe anxiety more than aspergers. Some similar problems I have, but rather sure I do not have aspergers. I am a bit shy, introverted, quiet, anxious, have short term memory issues and people joke I would be the “absent-minded professor”. Ordering and number of times for teeth brushing and all do sound borderline OCD, real OCD. I have OCD, diagnosed by real doctors/psychologists. I don’t think she has full OCD, but is more of a control freak. And a narcissist.

She used to be obsessed with numerology, but after she got saved she burned it all because it was witchcraft and divination and evil. Now she is obsessed with the Bible, planning, homemaking and fitness. She also has a new interest in quantum physics and mechanics. And that’s all I got halfway through. I would love to finish, but I am just not sure I can. It is just so painful.

This is very sad, but I'm actually excited to finally see the "hubby", and to hear Candy speak.  Which I will actually have to do later, because there are people around and I don't want to have to explain.

I stumbled across her blog probably 10 years ago when I was innocently looking for tips on organizing, and ended up reading the whole thing in horrified amazement (can you say brown recluse spider infestation?) Then I discovered the snark website--I think it was called Sweeping the Cobwebs? And there was also one called Candy is a Liar.  On one of them they would mention Free Jinger occasionally, which is how I found my way here.

She is truly unique.

Thank you for introducing me to this gem of a fundie. I only watched the first few minutes but it's enough for me to gather how special and amazing and obviously singled out by God. I look forward to reading old blog entries about how special she truly is.

Ah yes, but you don't know Candy.. She knows EVERYTHING~ self taught of course. She has children who mirror their parents. But odd things, they allow Star Trek and Star Wars. She's also into planners. At last count she cycled through at least 20 this year. I lost count.

She has provided lots of snark though.

Candy has always been especially chosen by god to be his mouthpiece and interpret his one and only true bible. Her attaching herself to Aspergers is just her latest trick/excuse. Whatever she can find to show people that she is a chosen one, she'll use it. She and hubby at one time were on a 5% kick - only 5% of so called Christians were 'true' Christians and were heaven bound. So, it fits that she is still trying to make herself the most special of the special and hand picked by god.

At one time she was on a kick of true Christians - the first Baptists - before the Catholic church who carried around secret true bibles. You know, before printing and binding and all that. Because Baptists are the true Christians and existed long before Catholics and they had the printed word of god secreted under their cloaks to prove it.

ehhhhhhhhhhhh, I don't know that I'd go that far. It is DAMN hard to get a diagnosis as an adult, and there are a LOT of adult Aspies (particularly women) who don't have an official diagnosis because they are old enough to have been out of school before Aspergers was even an official diagnosis (when diagnostic testing might have been covered by the educational system).  It's admittedly something that's been latched onto by a lot of weirdos, but I'm not sure that saying self diagnosis is completely invalid is really a good thing.

I watched almost all of it. After the first few minutes I turned on the closed-caption and muted the sound. Could not listen to her talk about herself for a full hour.

She claims she is logical, unemotional, can't grasp idioms (Amelia Bedelia?), who doesn't understand what other people are trying to tell her. Yet, how many times has she flounced?? I have lost track. She seems to understand when she's being snarked on.

Also she has super-hearing and super-smelling capabilities and selective mutism. And lots of anxiety issues (?!?) especially in city traffic and crowds. I know a lot of people who don't like city traffic or crowds. That doesn't make them Aspies.

I really don't know much about Autism, the only people I know who are in the spectrum are CLEARLY in the spectrum.

Honestly I thought she was going to claim some kind of connection between aliens or Nephilim or fallen angels or something like that and Aspies.

Give her time. She'll get there eventually. Before you know it, she'll be descendent from the giants who mated with the angels and that is why she is gods specially chosen headcovering Christian homeschooling mom right here on earth.

Read this after I got all excited and posted my previous crazy-pants-ness, but I wanted to acknowledge what you said.

I absolutely hear you with the difficulties getting diagnosed, especially as an adult woman.  It totally doesn't help that the APA keeps rewriting the damn DSM and futzing with the "official" diagnostic categories.  I actually (quietly) sort of agree with part of Candy's rant that Aspergers will indeed shake loose at some point as its own discrete category/diagnosis, but we're far from that point.

I also flatter myself and suggest that you and GGgirl are suggesting similar things from different angles.  Self-diagnosis (or self-diagnosing your kid) can be obnoxious in people who use it to proclaim their exceptionality without deriving any true benefit from the insight - regardless of whether the 'self-diagnosis' is accurate.  People who, much as it seems you're suggesting, use it as a signpost to guide or inform their understanding of themselves, can, and typically do, use it to great affect as a positive aspect of their lives.  (Holy Run-on Sentences, Batman!)

As with anything, self-diagnosis/insight/self-reflection/self-examination/etc... is a magnificently powerful tool that can be wielded for either good or evil (maybe not EVIL, per se, but lower-case evil) depending on who is running with those particular scissors.

Also?  We should totally kick jerk practitioners in the knee.  Symptoms do not a syndrome (diagnosis) make, however it must also be taken into account that not everyone fits into neat little clinical boxes.  In a perfect world, more care would be taken to really understand each individual as a whole, rather than ticking boxes on a checklist, stamping "yay" or "nay" at the top, and moving on to the next case file.   Aaaaaand, autocorrect desperately wants to turn 'casefile' into 'casserole.'   It must know we're discussing fundies.

Hokay, I will submit my novel, bow politely to all involved, and hope I haven't ruffled too many feathers as that was so not my intent.

Candy self diagnoses to find a way to justify and excuse her behavior. She didn't self diagnose to get herself on any kind of track or understanding. She found a few traits that work for her and she jumped on it.

That is not the same thing as a search for answers and understanding.

And probably not anywhere on the spectrum.

Absolutely agree that Candy's issues aren't likely to be related to being on the spectrum. :P (Although it's certainly not impossible, given the tiny slice of her we see that she chooses to present online, which is certainly representative of it's own crazy.)

I just hate to see self diagnosis getting thrown under the bus because yes, there are idiots, but there are some SERIOUS barriers to getting diagnosed, especially for adults. (And one of the major ones is financial!)
