Fugate and Lessin

My horror at the Pearls, Dobson, Tripp and Ezzo has gotten me to research further.

Some of this information may be old hat to many of you, but I am just learning how institutionalized and approved violence against children is in fundie-land. Roy Lessin, Richard Fugate, the Fabrizios, etc. -- anyone who knows about other "it has to be OK because these Godly people wrote a book/pamphlet" sources, let me know.

Somewhere I read that the Fugate book was required reading at a college (wish I'd saved that page -- can't find it now). Here is the chapter on chastisement:

I haven't found Lessin's book or long excerpts online, but did find this:

The Fabrizios:

An interesting instructional text from the National Child Protection Training Center, on investigating cases in which religion is the stated inspiration for suspected child abuse:

My parents had Fugate's book, and the dude is batshit crazy. He also has a book about what God says about being a man, and even people who like the Pearls thinks his hermeneutics are a bit goofy.

Of course, that didn't stop him from writing a Christian education curriculum that is still used around the US (in private and home school settings).

Don't know what you were thinking of, but a friend of mine who graduated Bob Jones University told me in the 1990's that the Fugate book was required reading at that institution.

Thanks. It may have been Bob Jones in whatever it was I found on line, as well.

I'm curious to know where else it has been used -- the chapter on child-whipping is pretty heinous.

ETA - - found my original source, which was a Facebook page. It includes this quote, and lots of links:

Anyone can go online and easily find sermons telling parents to do just what Phil Caminiti told his congregation. Maranatha Baptist Bible College (MBBC) is actively teaching students that the Fugate approach is biblical and necessary. I was required to read the Fugate book in my Child Psychology class as a student at Bob Jones University. Pensacola Christian College (PCC) teaches the information in the booklet “Spanking: Why, When, How†by Roy Lessin

Here it is:

Lessin's book is under the Duggar's Amazon list as a recommended parenting resource.

Ew (but no surprise).

I don't see it on the "Amazon blitz" page - where did you find it?

Don't know of an online source for all or much of the text of Lessin's book, but a survivor of his loathsome guide to abuse posted an open letter to him some years ago: http://nospank.net/fenimore.htm. It is sad & disturbing to read, particularly since the Lessins were friends of her family's.

I didn't break the link because the nospank.net website is a major resource for anyone who is concerned about corporal punishment.

don't forget John McArthur (I think that's who it is? he's mentioned on the Duggar website under resources.... you go to his website and it is messed up. Seriously. "If you want the benefit of this material, you need to get the books AND the audio." LOL.

Yep - Fenimore's letter was in one of the links I posted in the OP (someone had saved a bunch of related stuff to scribd)

This guy?

Does he have anything specifically about raising children?
