Quotes From Pearl Supporters

If you want an interesting example of the mental gymnastics that Pearl supporters manage to do, look at this facebook page for To Train Up A Child. The good news is that most of the quotes are from people who dislike the Pearls.

JoAnna M. Gavlik

I haven't read anywhere in Mike and Debi's book that we should abuse our children. I hear them talking abut discipline in Love but never that we should beat our children.. In fact the tubing that they suggest for spankings should only sting and not physically hurt the child. I'm angry with any parent that chooses to abuse their child out of anger and this is not what Mike and Debi are teaching.

JoAnna M. Gavlik I know that your pretty angry right now, and its hard to see past abusive parents. You don't know me from Adam and I know you've never seen me parent my children. All I can say is that I see a lot of undisciplined children that have become uncontrollable.. A hundred years ago children killing children in schools would never have happened. This is my proof that what I am doing for my kids is best. I trust God and I know that he has led me straight in other parts of my life so I trust him with the disapline of my children as well.

JoAnna M. Gavlik Selma... I don't think the issue here is over spanking a child. I think the issue is whether there really is a God and whether or not he truly cares about us. I believe there is a God, and I know he's been doing a good job taking care of me. He gave me a manual (The Bible) to follow to keep my kids on the right path and that's exactly what I'm going to do. He's led me right before and in this matter I know he'll lead me right again. You do what you think is right, but I'm gonna do what I know is right.

Leesh Keeler Um...TWO kids have supposedly died but their parents were absolutely not following this book. Had they actually followed the book their children never would have or could have died.

Sorry you are persecuted for teaching the right way to correct a child. "and all that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution

Here is another facebook page for teh Pearls. It has posters who are more friendly to them.

So I just started reading "Created to be his Help Meet" I just want to thank you so much... When we are in Heaven be not surprise if I come up and tell you both thank you so much and how much you have helped me in my walk and marriage. :) God Bless you and your ministries. I pray this trial will pass and you grow stronger from it.

I have read books intending to disagree with them. Once in a while I have changed my opinion on something. The issue here is that I actually read the book. Anyone who thinks the Pearls are evil child beaters obviously have not read the entire book. Sadly there is always the slanted media to tell people who are too lazy to read, what to think.

Blessings to you as you struggle through this trial! We read your book when we first became parents and it was very helpful in raising our 4 sons!

Today while waiting for renewal of our passports at the US Embassy in Thailand we saw a news report by CNN regarding a family who is blaming your books for the murder of their child. We are so very grieved to see the prosecution you are facing on this matter. And we just wanted you to know we are praying for you and that we love your ministry. We have used the Train up a child book to assist us in raising our 3 beautiful daughters who are all happy and healthy because mom and dad take the time to discipline with love

Obedience training is the start of our training for God. Yes we are different from Dogs, but if we can get dogs to sit and be obedience and children and people are better than dogs, why don't be expect, our to children at lest to be obedient.

For those of you who follow this book perhaps you can lend some help. My 21 month old son is just a tough nut to crack! When I spank him he doesn't even cry sometimes. He just doesn't care. He does the opposite of what I say ALL the time. If I say "Get out of the kitchen" he goes farther into the kitchen. I really really need some help. I want to raise a child who is not a brat. I want to raise him in a Godly and well disciplined household. Please help!!

My child will be spanked with a rod as commanded by our Lord. He's never once been bruised or otherwise hurt by the rod. I refuse to believe that doing what our Lord commands of us is child abuse. I think our society has allowed people like you to believe spanking is abuse. There is a huge difference between a Biblical spanking and raising a Godly child and abuse. The people in this group obviously understand and follow that difference. Why not find another place to go. Your "feeling for my child" makes no difference to me. I am seeking advice from people who choose to raise a child of God. THAT is why the Pearls' book is so effective. They don't need to be doctors or psychologists. They are simply showing parents that are willing to do what our Lord wants how and when to institute proper discipline. As I stated before I came here seeking advice from LIKE MINDED parents. If you choose to buy into society's version of "discipline" then so be it, but I'll be sticking to what the Bible and my Lord command and expect of me as a parent.

The devil is the perverter of all things good. God gave us food. The devil used it to turn Eve aside. God gave pure love and intimacy. The devil turned it into rampant lust and pornography. God gave us music. The devil turned it into hard rock and roll to promote adultery, sex, drugs, suicide, rebellion.God gave us a way to correct and train our children, to keep them from evil.By using the rod correctly children feel a small sting to keep them from the uncontrolled, directionless, destructive, unhapppy life. I have watched the rod bring HAPPINESS, REST, PEACE, LOVE in the life of many families. This is not of God to kill a child with a rod. If you have not read the Pearls books, you should not speak against them. You really don't know.

Well atleast someone was christian enough to throw the "persecuted" line out there! Whew, good thing!

Oh, I like the one who went straight to "prosecuted" If only...

Effe, I hadn't read those quotes but those people are crazy. Seriously, crazy.

If any babysitter used the rod on my kids, I would turn their butts over to child protective services.

My eyes roll back in my head anytime I see the words 'obedience training' outside a dog care manual. Even then, dogs are given more ability to be themselves than children born into these sick & twisted families.

I am so excited to see PREPARING TO BE HIS HELPMEET in spanish!! I work at a CHildrens Home in Mexico and so many of the teenage girls that come here come with babies and\or have been abused... I would love to give them this book as gifts, they love to read & would love this book!!

Like · · 16 hours ago ·

Why would she give these poor abused children that kind of book? I mean, these girls should be empowered and get help to be independent in order to avoid future abuse... They should not learn that they should prepare to be a man's helpmeet.

I liked this sequence of comments from the main NGJ page on FB, in response to the announcement that Mike's new book, Created to Need a Helpmeet: A Marriage Guide for Men (https://www.facebook.com/NoGreaterJoyMinistries) :

Commenter 1: woo-hoo!! :-) (Friday at 7:55am)

Commenter 2: Can't wait to get one!! :) (Friday at 8:52am)

Commenter 3: Don't get too excited. i ordered a case of the Preparing to be a Helpmeet before I read it and I'm stuck with the case minus 1. I enjoyed created to be his helpmeet and I have several other items but i was highly disappointed in the preparing one. (Friday at 10:10am)

Good to know that at least some of their stuff is not selling and that their idiot cult members are losing money on being "distributors' for NGJ's shite.

I think it's the "spare the rod, spoil the child" line. They're literally advocating rods and that those rods be used to whip kids who are set up to fail in a task.

Except that "spare the rod and spoil the child" is not in the Bible at all! It's a direct quote from a political, bawdy poem by Samuel Butler and he was not alluding to the Bible when he said it. The "child" is question is the pagan god Eros, also known as Cupid, and the gist of the quote is adults enjoying rough sexual play.

Rrrrrrgh.

Sorry--using that quote in support of the idea that the Bible advocates (insert euphemism for beating here) little children--it just sets me off.

The actual phrase "spare the rod, spoil the child" isn't in the bible. Unfortunately the actual quote from proverbs, the KJV is: "Do not withhold correction from a child. For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from hell."  It would almost be better if it WAS "spare the rod, spoil the child." At least that is open to different interpretation.

I'm not surprised by these quotes by Pearl supporters. I know several people who does use spanking as discipline but they don't take it to an extreme. Some people don't start spanking until their children are 3 or 4 and some would freak out at the Pearls' suggestion to beat a baby with plumbing line.

They'd never find the sitter's body.

Or as our local "hero" Mohamad Kassem Fadi said when "laserman II" was out shooting/aiming to kill foreigners last year in Malmö: "I shall cut his tongue, cut his ears. I will make chaos with him. Then after that I shall... give him to the police without a head, you know."

Hey, could someone help me here with some clever answer:

Ashley Hansen Well how about this one for you then. "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame." Proverbs 29:15.

Ashley Hansen Or better still "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes." Proverbs 13:24 So in short, I love my son enough to not spare the rod.

That's a lot of nerve. If I found out that a babysitter beat my children with plumbing line, the police would be on their doorstep in 2.8 seconds.

There is a god, man made and the manual is slightly outdated.

I agree, I don't have kids but the idea of a babysitter beating other people's children is disturbing and it is overstepping boundaries. This Lauren is pretty stupid to state that her daughters are using methods like that when babysitting. I hope the families or people connected to her or her daughters find out about that her daughters are using some of those methods.
