Deadly Devotion

Two weeks ago the second season of Investigation Discovery's "Deadly Devotion" premiered. The show has featured everything from the Amish to Scientology.

In one episode an Amish girl was so desperate to get married that her family allowed her to marry a mentally ill man. Many in the community didn't approve of the marriage, including members of the bride's family. He was not allowed to get the treatment he needed and ended up brutally murdering his wife in front of their small children. He became the first Amish man ever convicted of murder after the jury found him guilty but mentally ill. He took his own life years after he was released from prison.

Has anyone else seen this show? It's very interesting. New episodes air on Wednesday 8ct/9est.

I thought they did a really great job with the recent $cientology episode. I remember following this story as I had family in Buffalo at the time. It was a brutal horrific crime and I think ID did a great job of getting that across, as well as the scientolgy belief system that led to the murder.

Yes! The ID Channel has had some good fundie shows. They had a series all about murderous pastors... Sinister Ministers!

I saw that episode!! That guy really needed help!!

I felt bad for the wife because she was like so many of the fundie girls and women we talk about. Despite being in her early 20s she was considered old and her younger sister getting married first made her sad.

That's true, and it's one reason why that channel is my guilty pleasure.

I would love for DPIATR, Bill Gothard, and others are included on that show.

Same here. Haven't seen the show yet, but does it only feature people who were murder victims? As much as I hate to sound like I am standing up for DPIAR or GotHard, as far as I know they have not ever directly killed anyone.

Maybe not directly killed anyone, but Jim Bob not putting M's health first, esp. after what happened after her last 2 pregnancies, seems to me to be placing her in harm's way.If she'd died, well then...2nd degree murder, maybe not legally, but morally speaking?

Discovery ID is also my guilty pleasure and I have been recording Deadly Devotion. The Scientology one WAS very interesting and I liked that Tony Ortega was interviewed for the episode. Anything that gets more message out about Scientology and the dangers it entails is OK in my book.

I wouldn't say Jim Bob's guilty. Despite all the talk of "headships", I don't get the feeling that Nut ever forced Nutschelle to do anything.

Hate to go off topic. But Discovery ID is my guilty pleasure also. The shows r very entertaining. I have really enjoyed Deadly Devotion Happily Never After (an episode has been discussed here) and Deadly Women.

As the man,he IS the headship in that family, and he has an obligation to look after his wife's health. As such,he should have BEEN A MAN and stood up to Michelle and told her point blank, "I care about your life and your health. Our family needs you,I need you,and our children need you.NO MORE BABIES."

Josiah was the only one who was brave enough to show any emotion or concern for his mother's life and health when she announced #20,and for that,he apparently got punished.

They could do an episode about the Pearls. Sinister Ministers and Dangerous Persuasions(another ID show) features all kinds of crimes not just murder.

So much agree! Switched cable companies for a while and lost the channel, thought I would die without my informative murder porn fix! :shifty:

Glad to have it back. The $cientology episode was well done.
