A 6-foot-tall Festivus pole made from Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans will be put up in the Florida Capitol this week, next to a nativity scene.

Stevens, a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, requested the Festivus display space from the state Department of Management Services after reading about the nativity display. A preliminary approval was given Friday with the formal approval made Monday.

So awesome! If Christians can have a nativity, then a Festivus pole is equally appropriate. For once, I'm proud of Florida.

Fox host Gretchen Carlson flipped out over the Festivus pole displayed in the Florida Capitol building. "Baby Jesus is behind the Festivus pole."

Maybe I'm missing something in the photo but I didn't see baby Jesus behind the pole... See this is what happens, fundies, when you insist that your religious symbols are to be placed in public, government buildings. Our constitution (the one you guys cite all the time when it suits you) guarantees this.

God, I hate that woman.

I'm not really going to drive up there; it's like 4-5 hours from me. But I did order a mini Festivus pole for our school holiday display. We have Kwanzaa, Christmas, and Hanukkah, and Festivus will be up next week! I'll take a pic of that. :)

I'm surprised they haven't tried to get it removed because it's made out of beer cans. I can see someone using that as an excuse.

I'm totally building a PBR Festivus pole next year. I might even put it in my front yard.

Mr. Cumi thought that PBR was too plebian of a beer to use in a Festivus pole. I suggested he take it up at the Airing of Grievances. :)

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

I actually had a "celebrating Festivus" class with my teens today. First, we watched some Seinfeld clips for context. We used a coat rack for the pole, the Feats of Strength became an arm-wrestling tournament, I brought in some chocolate for the feast, and since the theme of the unit was "expressing feelings", the Grievances fit right in. Maybe Festivus will become a Thing in Russia? I can see them really glomming on to it.

Here's a video of the Festivus Pole and a fundy woman saying she is praying for the guy who placed it in the Capitol. Apparently, he needs an encounter with Jebus. http://landing.newsinc.com/shared/video.html?freewheel=90022&sitesection=seorlandosentinel&VID=25438849

Also, a display dedicated to the Flying Spaghetti Monster is now on display in the Florida capitol, next to a Nativity scene, a Christmas tree and a Festivus pole. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/18/flying-spaghetti-monster-florida_n_4468543.html

I love serious tone of the woman describing the Flying Spaghetti Monster and its signifigance, in this video: http://bcove.me/4xpt70ap

And to think, until a few minutes ago, I thought Florida was an ass-backwards state, for crazies only.

And John Stewart responded, questioning her difficulty in finding a manger scene for her child to view:
