A Thief in the night series

Was anyone else treated to this series of movies in church? I searched but just found one reference to it on FJ. A few years ago the producers announced that there would be a fifth, The Battle of Armadeddon, but seem to have funding issues. The web site for this movies can be found by adding "film.com" onto the end of the title.

Back in middle and high school I was a very ostracized and bullied kid and desperate for friends. I started hanging out with a group that was just this side of fundie light. Among other things, we watched the first three movies in this series: A Thief in the Night, A Distant Thunder, and Image of the Beast. I thought that the first was watchable and fun in a campy way, especially with the bar code stuff. I don't recall what I thought of the next two, but I do remember that a local theater was going to have a showing of The Prodigal Planet and I was not disappointed when our group arrived and found out that it was sold out.

I re-watched the first one recently for comedic value, but I'm not sure that I could stomach two and especially three again. One of these days I might watch The Prodigal Planet.

WARNING: This one starts off with a particularly horrible scene.

I just had a conversation about these movies the other day. When I was a child my mother and her ex-husband were befriended by some pentecostal neighbors so needless to say I had watched these by the time I was ten. At the time they scared me more then poltergeist did, bc these came with adults saying "see this is what will happen".

I just came up on this Tea Party video on slacktivist and can't but help thinking that whomever wrote and directed it really liked 70s rapturesploitation films. I has very much of the feel of the second movie.

None of your links work.

I know for sure that I saw 'A Thief In The Night' - several times. I think the first time I saw it, I was about 5. I was terrified for years after that, from that movie. I came home from school one day and my mom wasn't there and pulled into the driveway about 5 minutes later and I was sobbing on the steps, thinking they'd all been raptured and I must have been awful or done something awful that I wasn't raptured either. Of course my mother viewed it as prime 'let's have a come to Jesus' time.

I think I've seen 'A Distant Thunder' - I found the video on YouTube just now, and watched a bit. Seems familiar. Not sure about the rest of them.

Aw, crap. The videos were taken down since I embedded them here when I made the original post. FJ must have caused a rapture. :(

I'll see if I can find new videos and link them.

I made it all the way to 30 years old without seeing any of those, probably because I'm an ebil Catholic & don't subscribe to the fundie brand of fire & brimstone. But I watched the first one a few days ago, I'm sure from the same reference here that you found. *LOL* And I have to ask...Am I going to Hell if all I could manage to think of is how that guy with the moustache, sideburns, & weird voice had to have been either a porn star or a child molester?
