Modest Mom ,skirts and the gayz...

Local high school seniors tend to favor long, concealing skirts with tight T-shirts (the better to show off their tats I guess) and piercings. Where are my pearls? I must clutch my pearls!!!!

You can borrow mine when I'm done with them...

1. Because they are feminine and easily portray the fact that I am a woman.
I definitely need to wear a skirt to make sure that everyone can tell that I'm a woman. I'm sure my DD boobs make people confuse me for a male

ETA: my poor, poor 7 month old girl is wearing an all blue outfit with *gasp* pants!!

So I'm as gay as humanly possibly and I wear skirts almost constantly. Usually flowery, feminine flowy kinds. I'd wear skirt everyday if I lived somewhere with a warmer climate. I also dress fairly conservatively because that's how I'm comfortable. Some days I can pass for a modern-modest fundie in my clothes.

Shouldn't my clothes have turned me straight by now ;) ?Skirts were not an effective protection against turning gay for me:D

Are these people serious? Do they think god created MEN and TROUSERS and WOMEN and SKIRTS and it's bad to mix it up???

Don't they realise throughout large parts of human history, men wore skirt or trouser-like things, including in Christian countries? Little boys would wear dresses and men would wear dresses to bed and have long hair in Western countries until about 200 years ago. And then we have Scotland. Then there are togas and the like, though those people probably think that part of human history didn't exist, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Wait Jesus himself wore dresses WTF FUNDIES

I always thought that in Christ time he wore something that resembled a dress really so what was he then.

My hubby is bemused as he sometimes wears a kilt which to them is a skirt so what does that make him.

I am wearing pants and I am just really confused about my gender right now. Am I male or female?

I wear jeans much of the time and I love a man in a kilt. If he's got the scottish accent too than that is even better. ;)

I'm not sure what this makes me. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact the my grandfather was dressed in dresses, of sorts, until he was old enough for pants. He even had somewhat long curly hair at around age 2, 3 or so.

Look at the clothes Henry VIII of England wore- and what men wore before that- and tell me skirts and dresses are only for women. Go on. I dare you.

It's distinctive from what women wore, sure, but it looks pretty feminine to modern eyes.

Wearing long, loose skirts where I live now is a Bad Idea, because it's always rather windy. Pants and shorts are the norm if you wish to remain modest, or tighter skirts.

What are those of us who are bi supposed to be wearing-- skirts over pants? Culottes?

NO ONE should wear culottes.

Let me get this straight... She has to wear a garment that reminds at the very least others that she is female, and we're the ones who are confused about gender?

I have to say, I wear pants all the time, and no one has ever been confused about me being a woman...

I don't understand how all of a sudden skirts and dresses are so darn feminine. Since the ancient Egyptians and ancient Greeks, ancient Romans etc all wore toga and skirt/dress like outfits for both sexes! and heck even Jesus and his apostles wore toga/dress like outfits... so what does that make them? :D

Sorry to ask for link, but I can't see to find Modest Mom's blog. Even tried searching the "reference" page, but no luck. Thanks.

Also, what would she have to say about my brother (married / 2 kids) who prefers to wear a kilt?

What ever you do, DO NOT LOOK! The secrets you might view could be potentially defrauding and traumatizing! Your girl (or boy) parts are evil and to look upon them is to invite Satan into your soul!

Yeah ... similar problem. I was downtown this weekend and had a "Seven Year Itch" moment when I absentmindedly walked over a grate while carrying my exhausted toddler. I was also wearing my "Jesus loves a feminist" tank, so that's probably two more fundie points against me.

Ok, funny story from tonight. My BFF who is 100% straight and married to an actual man showed up today at kickboxing and I didn't recognize her at first. My initial reaction when it clicked that it was her was "You turned yourself into a girl!"

Found this

Now my witchy self actually wants to buy long skirts(cute ones not those fugly denim ones) and 'modest' tops to troll fundies instead of my usual jeans + geeky t-shirt attire

So today I have on an ankle length skirt, a peasant blouse and I also have a tichel style scarf on. The skirt - because I like long skirts. The blouse - my decent stuff is all packed as we're going on holiday tomorrow. The scarf - my hair is minging and would scare small children, it's getting washed later.

I would pass as a fundie Christian/Faux Jew, I'm actually an ebil atheist, who's a bit crunchy on the side. Guess I just debunked her theory.

Today I have on-

A long-sleeved plain black shirt

Ankle length skirt, subdued floral pattern

Sensible black flats

No makeup, hair in a bun, covered with a scarf.

I'm sure I look fundie, but I am in fact an agnostic/atheist socialist (the real kind, the JesusFightClub kind).

I have heard the local nutcases hold an anti-choice rally in front of our library every semester. Stocking up on water balloons, pudding, and launchers...

I'm wearing black dress pants, white blouse, high heels, scarf and full makeup (including red lipstick). Of course, I am on my way to my wedding with Satan ...

Sola, we could almost be twins today! I'm wearing an ankle length skirt, a button up blouse over a couple of white t-shirts and a bright ass pink tichel (like you, to cover the unwashed hair). Let's infiltrate the fundies and pelt them with condoms!
