Texas GOP rejects critical thinking skills

We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

C'mon, guys, why would you want to challenge "fixed beliefs." You might wind up with kids thinking they could, oh, I don't know, land a man on the moon or something.

When I was really young, I had the "fixed belief" that if I jumped off the deck when the wind was blowing hard enough, I'd be able to fly. So, if I'd grown up in Texas, I'd be able to fly then, right?

I'm so thankful that I don't have to raise my son in Texas. My current state of residence is bad enough.
