How to dress for Doug Phillip's Titanic Brouhaha

Oh, my goodness! I just got emailed the schedule (thank you, fundie relatives trying to entice me back into the fold!) and they are actually doing a countdown of the iceberg strike. This is followed by worship - not a memorial service, but worship. The whole running around playing at dress-up aspect considering what happened to the people on the real ship just seems beyond tacky.

Here's the schedule if anyone else wants to check it out:

I-I won't even look at that. *looks* OH MY GO- brain asploads momentarily from the sheer ignorance of this so called "memorative event." :angry-screaming:

This fits the textbook definition of obscenity. Disgusting. Doug, for the love of all that is decent, get your head out of your fundament.

I would do something sexy, ridiculous, and extravagant, like Gloria Swanson in a Cecil B. DeMille movie or a Paul Poiret gown. The crazier hats of the late teens are one of my guilty pleasures

I would wear my purple Paul Poiret dress, because I have a real one, and I never get to wear it! I share your hat love!!!

Gypsy Rose Lee was dancing about this time wasn't she?

Gypsy was born around 1911, but wore outfits of the earlier, gilded era. She had a son with Otto Preminger, and is one of my geek subjects. Dougie would have hated her! The latest book published about her is the best one yet

When the Titanic with Kate and Leo was out, there was a tour at one of the museums in Chicago, and you were given a ticket with the name of a passenger at the beginning of the exhibit. At the end, you found out whether "you" lived or died. I lived; my parents died. It put the truth on the "romance", and I was grateful for it.

You know Dougie will be sneaking off with an intern to re-enact the scene at the bow of the ship, with the intern as Kate Winslet

Does anyone know what "the music of manhood" is? I can't even imagine.

The sound can be heard in porno theaters: one hand slapping. Sorry, I am in a mood today!

My jealousy knows no bounds. Excuse me while I mop up the drool.

Wouldn't it be great if Charlie Zahm just totally lost his sanity on stage one night and started singing "I Enjoy Being a Girl"?

The only Titanic I'm gonna be enjoying is Cinematic Titanic, and does not involve Dougie.

Come to think of it if, Dougie is the actual stereotype of the effeminate misogynistic guy.

(I just wanted to say this out of nowhere so sorry)

Oh how I'd love to live out my steampunk fantasies! I would show up to Dougie's event as Josephine with her flying machine. Aviatrix, dominatrix...I love it. They wouldn't know what to do with me

But yes, I agree this all seems to be in very poor taste. And the museum...I mean REALLY??? You enter the museum through a freakin' iceberg?

I keep thinking of a scene from some trashy historical romance I once read that had several references to "playing the skin flute."

Dougie's favorite instrument!

Celebrating "women and children first" by counting down to the moment the Titanic hit the iceberg. Unbelievable. That's like celebrating the heroism of our troops in WWI by counting down to the moment Archduke Franz Ferdinand bled to death.

He couldn't dress up in period costume, so he probably will not do that. But if he can figure out somehow to make it all about manly men and dressing up, I"m sure he will.

He could dress up in a natty investment banker suit, and we could push him out a window. I would find it deeply satisfying.

I almost expect to see Dougie at a Somewhere In Time convention. I knew someone who worked on Mackinac Island over tourist season and said they were quite the intense group.

My niece played Molly Brown in her gradeschool history play about the Titanic. So proud!

Did you know that Ms. Brown never went by Molly in her lifetime? Her nickname was Maggie but back in the 40's when the first play was written about her they changed her name to Molly becuase they needed her name to flow better for the songs they used? Yes, I am a collecter of weird facts and such a nerd.

We can safely assume that he wouldn't masquerade as a cop or a firefighter. He'd probably prefer to be one of the onlookers on the sidewalk.

I don't know, but I'm guessing there's a ballad about anaconda hunters in there.
