I understand that. She could spit on Trump for all I care.  But in tearing up that paper she showed real disrespect to All the very worthy people mentioned in it and in his speech. Whatever her reason for Sticking one to Trump like that was the wrong way because she took the low road.

As this thread has gotten to 20 pages, I just want to reiterate my request that the next one be called simply "45  45."

I strongly disagree. Trump disrespected the office of the president and the tradition of the state of the union address by delivering a speech full of lies and filling it with reality TV style stunts. He's done essentially nothing in office except lie, enrich himself, play golf, and make the US the world's laughingstock.

Also, you do remember that Trump has a habit of tearing up notes and documents that are required by law to be entered into the presidential record, don't you? To the point that there are people whose entire job is to go through the oval office garbage can and tape these things back together. Ripping his speech in half is a symbolic reminder of the lack of respect Trump himself shows for the office, it's work, and the American people.

There is no "low road" with Trump. It doesn't matter how low anyone goes, he'll manage to tunnel under it.

"An emotional Parkland dad was handcuffed after he shouted at the State of the Union speech, he says"

Spoiler

Clad in his trademark orange tie and ribbon, the guest of honor had reached his breaking point.

Fred Guttenberg, the father of slain Parkland student Jaime Guttenberg, simmered with anger during President Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. Trump discussed immigrants who committed crimes and declared that “human life is a sacred gift from God.”

Guttenberg thought something was missing. What about people killed by gun violence like his daughter, killed in a massacre at her high school in Florida? He leaned over to a fellow guest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and said he was on the verge of losing it.

And when Trump said gun rights were “under siege all across our country,” Guttenberg did lose it, he said, and shouted about victims like Jamie.

“My emotions were stewing,” Guttenberg, 54, told The Washington Post on Wednesday, hours after he says he was handcuffed and detained by Capitol Police. “I was so upset.”

He roared at the tail end of an applause line from Trump, who said, “So long as I am president, I will always protect your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”

A member of security quickly swooped in to escort Guttenberg from the gallery. Democratic lawmakers turned around to see the incident unfold, and some stood in applause for Guttenberg as he was led away.

It was the beginning of a long night for Guttenberg. He was handcuffed and detained for about two hours, he said, although he acknowledged that it was a blur. The police were cordial. “They were doing their job,” he said.

Guttenberg was released after what he described as an intervention from Pelosi’s office, and he spoke to her afterward. But he declined to provide further details, describing the ordeal as traumatic. He pointed to a statement he released over social media early Wednesday morning.

“Tonight was a rough night. I disrupted the State of the Union and was detained because I let my emotions get the best of me,” he said on Twitter.

Referring to the Second Amendment, he wrote, “I simply want to be able to deal with the reality of gun violence and not have to listen to the lies about the 2A as happened tonight.”

He added in a follow-up tweet: “That said, I should not have yelled out. I am thankful for the overwhelming support that I am receiving. However, I do owe my family and friends an apology. I have tried to conduct myself with dignity throughout this process and I will do better as I pursue gun safety.”

A spokesperson for Pelosi did not return a request for comment.

The Capitol Police, which described the incident as a “verbal outburst,” said Guttenberg “was removed from the Gallery, briefly detained, and released,” according to Eva Malecki, a police spokesperson.

Guttenberg, perhaps the most outspoken parent to emerge from the 2018 killings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, has advocated gun-control measures through his nonprofit organization, Orange Ribbons for Jaime.

He criticized Trump for what he characterized as a national attack on gun laws. While Virginia passed gun-control measures in late January, firearm laws nationwide have generally been favorable to gun rights activists in recent years. In Texas, for instance, gun rights have expanded amid recent mass shootings.

Guttenberg said he plucked one development from the incident that encouraged him.

“I’m glad today people are talking about gun violence.”

"In West Palm Beach, President Trump’s name has disappeared from the skyline"

Spoiler

President Trump’s name adorned the tops of two tall condo buildings in West Palm Beach for more than two decades — but now it’s gone and won’t be returning, the Palm Beach Post reported Tuesday.

The buildings once bore large signs reading “Trump Plaza,” although they haven’t been affiliated with Trump’s company since 1991. The signs came down in late 2017 for cleaning, and the Palm Beach Post reported that residents voted 178-20 to not put them back.

Jeffrey Barr, the president of the buildings’ condo association, confirmed that vote in an email to The Washington Post.

“The reported resident vote on replacing our rooftop signage is accurate. I have no further comments,” Barr wrote. The Palm Beach Post reported that the signs had fallen apart when they were removed in 2017, so replacing them might have required an extra $75,000 cost.

Since Trump took office, at least nine buildings have removed his name from their facades — including six residential buildings in New York and hotels in Toronto, Panama and Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood.

In this case, the change will be less dramatic: the condos in West Palm Beach will still be called “Trump Plaza,” and there will still be ground-level signs bearing Trump’s name.

The question of whether to remove those will be left to a later vote, the Palm Beach Post reported.

Yeah. She should not have torn that speech or said what she said for Reasons other than her Despising Trump and a handshake you know she did not want anyway. Real talk  She showed real disrespect to the Presidency itself  not to mention those mentioned in the speech and it made her look very spiteful and childish. She could have been the bigger more mature person but chose differently.

The Democrats really don’t need this kind of press and drama right now.

Bring on the F you’s and down votes but I call it as I see it :)

Happy to oblige you! I couldn't disagree with you more.

As long as that thing is in office and the rethugs steamroll over democracy, no one, especially Nancy Peolsi, will ever get an iota of criticism from me for anything they do. It's time to take the gloves off and quit pretending that any of this is nice or normal, that bully in charge and his minions dependon the rest of us behaving nice and civilized. Fuck that.  It's a wonder that Pelosi didn't spit or cuss. She tore a sheet of paper, but it is the rethugs that are tearing up this country. Symbolic vs. actual damage. What we are seeing is exactly how dictators come into power. And given the totally uncouth, boorish, and rude things done by the orange menace, her action was benign.  Imma go tear up some shit myself, LOL.

Unfortunately, under his regime, the judiciary has been stacked with conservatives, influencing courts for a generation.

And the more that Trump plays golf, the less his finger is on the nuclear button.

I see things as they are. Poster said she did care what anyone did to Trump.

Would most people here cry and be devastated if he was taken out? Really?   Would they want the assassin to be punished to the full extent possible?

Well, that’s an extreme, and somewhat baiting, question. It’s also two separate questions.

Would I want to see an assassin punished? Yes. You can’t go around killing people, and when caught, must be brought to justice. A civilized society does not condone murder. Ripping up paper is allowed.

Would I cry and be devastated if Fucknut were dead? No, can’t say I’d miss him.

"Not Criticize" and "Cheer" are very, very different things. Perhaps a dictionary might help?

1:  *didn't

2:  That's actually not at all what she said. She said she "wouldn't criticize" which is not the same thing.

3: Heck no, I wouldn't cry and be devastated. I'd feel sorry for Barron and breathe a sigh of relief for the country, personally. Pence isn't great but he doesn't have the pull and personality to build a cult like Trump has.

4: Of course I'd want the assassin to be punished to the full extent. Crimes come with consequences. Trump's being allowed to get away with the many, many crimes he's committed, but that doesn't mean criminals shouldn't face the consequences of their crimes.

*a troll

And no, you didn't say anything controversial at all.

You made some huge nonsensical assumptions and misread/misunderstood what posters have said (willfully or not, I'm not sure). Then you said some stuff I'd consider uninformed, unthinking, and on an uncharitable day, downright stupid. But not controversial.

Troll, or just really bad at reading and critical thinking? I'm not sure at this point.

So very Christian... "Trump lashes out at prayer breakfast, calling Democrats ‘corrupt people’ who have ‘badly hurt our nation’"

Spoiler

Trump used his remarks to the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington to attack Democrats responsible for his impeachment and to praise Senate Republicans who voted to acquit him Wednesday.

“As everybody knows, my family, our great country and your president has been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people,” Trump said, as Pelosi sat on the dais at an annual event that draws lawmakers and others in the spirit of reconciliation and bridge-building. “They have done everything possible to destroy us and by so doing very badly hurt our nation. They know what they are doing is wrong, but they put themselves far ahead of our great country.”

Making his first public remarks since his aquittal, Trump praised Republicans for having “had the wisdom, fortitude and strength to do what everyone knows is right.”

Trump seemed to target both Pelosi, who has said on several occasions that she prays for him, and Romney, who cited his faith as a factor in voting to remove Trump from office.

“I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong,” Trump said. “Nor do I like people who say, ‘I pray for you,’ when they know that that’s not so.”

He later questioned a previous speaker, who had advocated “loving your enemies.”

“When they impeach you for nothing, then it’s not easy to like them,” Trump said of his adversaries. “It’s not easy, folks.”

...

8:45 a.m.

Trump displays banner headlines on his acquittal at National Prayer Breakfast

Trump held up copies of USA Today and The Washington Post, displaying banner headlines on his acquittal by the Senate, shortly after arriving on the dais at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton on Thursday morning.

Copies of the papers appeared to have been placed on the table in front of him.

Others on the dais included Vice President Pence, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Pelosi. Trump shook hands with those on his side of the dais but did not interact with Pelosi and others sitting on the opposite side.

Pelosi delivered a brief “prayer for the poor and persecuted” without referring to or acknowledging Trump.
