If you could rename the Duggars

We've snarked on the Duggars for the names they gave their kids - dumb spellings and similar names. So if you could rename them to make them more individual, what would you choose? Either new J names or something else.

Josh stays the same

John David drops the hyphen

Jana stays the same

Jill stays the same

Jessa is now Jessica

Jinger is something pretty - Julia called Julie

Joseph stays the same

Josiah is now Jude, which I think would fit his personality, being vaguely hipsterish

Joy Anna drops the hyphen and becomes Joy Elizabeth, which I think sounds better

Jedediah becomes Jeffrey

Jeremiah becomes Jeremy

Justin becomes Joel (Justin is too similar to Jason)

I'd keep most of them. As much of a name nerd as I am, I also respect people's choices in names (but will snark on the bad ones).

Girls--

Joy-Anna and Johannah are way too similar. I'd drop the Anna from Joy's name (which they seem to have done).

Jinger--- just plain no. I get if you like Ginger but use that as a middle name if you want to keep with the J theme. Jacqueline Ginger sounds a lot better.

Josie is a nickname for Josephine (they already have a Joseph and Josiah). Cute name but too similar to two of her brothers. Also Brooklyn is a horrible middle name and it sounds like she was a baby born on the Teen Mom reality show.

Alternative names--- Julie/Julia/Juliet (pick one), Jasmine, Jocelyn, Jacqueline/Jaclyn/Jackie,

Boys

Joseph and Josiah are practically the same name (and what's worse is they're back to back). If you're going to use both names, make sure the kids are spaced far enough apart so they're not confused as long.

Jeremiah and Jedidiah are too similar, but plenty of people do this with twins (fundie or not). I'm giving them a pass for that reason.

I wouldn't rename anyone already living. Even the girl I met named Malaria (pronounced like the disease). I think that, if a person's name is going to change after the first few months of life, it should be a name the person chooses.

I just think they should have done anything besides that ridiculous same letter theme. All biblical names would have made perfect sense. Jinger is just absurd. Jana, Joy Anna and Johanna may as well have the same name. It's just an absurd clusterfuck with names that don't seem like they even belong in the same family. Most people have a naming style. These people just throw out any random J name. And OMG Jubilee...either give it a real name you would have given a living child or admit that miscarriage just isn't the same to you as a living baby. Why wasn't someone named JuJube?

The reason I changed Marcus' names is because to me it's just evidence of the ignorance of the Duggars. I really think Josh and Anna have no idea who Mark Antony/Marcus Antonius was. The boy deserves a name that isn't a reason to mock his parents.

So I picked Mark because it's more common and Andrew because it's someone similar to Anthony.

First, change James's and Michael's whole name at least one of them. Michael is Jason's middle name and James is Joshua's middle name.
