Back in the '70s, when I first saw the show, I was all snarky and WTF--then I had a child who was entranced by Mr. Rogers. He was the first kids' performer who actually understood how little ones felt, and was keenly aware that children often have fears that parents don't understand. By all accounts, he was kind and genuine. He was also an ordained Presbyterian minister, and could teach the fundie preachers we rank on a thing or two.
