Kody Brown: None of My Wives Can Satisfy ALL Of My Needs

Recommended Posts

socalrules

I am pretty sure that Kody couldn't fulfill any of my needs.

I don't think of Kody as married to any of these women, not even the legal wife Meri. If you only see your "husband", and your kids only see their father, every four days because he is off being a "husband" to another woman, you aren't married. You are a single mother who who has regular booty calls with you children's father. The idea of knowing my "husband" isn't in bed with me at night because he is sticking it to one of his other three wives grosses me out. Maybe I am a prude but I cannot imagine having sex behind someone else and knowing he will be having sex with another one the next day. You just know these women are having sex as much as they can with him as a form of competition. Can't have him only getting it regularly from one wife.

Kody has it made. He can fight all day with one wife and not let it bother him because he knows he won't have to see her again for at least three more days. The women have repeatedly tried to explain the upside to polgamy for sister wives and I have yet to see it. Kody gets all the benefits of polgamy and leaves none for the women.

That's the way it looks to me also. They seem to believe it gets them a special life after death benefit, but the hell on earth it seems to me is a poor trade-off for the off chance that Joseph Smith was right.

I watched the first episodes of this show after I had given birth to my second baby and my first was only 2 years old. I could definitely see the benefits to having sister wives. Not necessarily for actual physical help, but for some support and someone in the next room who knows what you're going through.

The trade of isn't worth it, though, and you can get the same level of support if you work hard enough to find the right community. They use the "sister wives" aspect to trick people into thinking it benefits the women, hoping we won't see that the women could benefit from each other without the patriarchy involved, not to mention the financial and emotional hardship inherent in a polygamous marriage.

Polygamy only makes sense in cultures where one gender's availability for marriage significantly outnumbers the other.

I'm not married, but some of the most successful married people I know admit their spouses don't fulfill ALL their needs. So from what I can tell, a successful marriage doesn't require a spouse fulfill all the needs of their partner. Probably because a marriage doesn't mean you can only talk to that person ever. You have friends, family, etc. and those people can fulfill needs. If you like to talk shop, build a relationship with a co-worker. You can have meaningful relationships with people without marrying or being romantically involved with them.

Just like the Duggars, Sister Wives is nothing but a repetition from one episode to the next. Almost every episode talks about the following:

-How jealousy exists in a polygamous marriage. We know that and you've talked about it since Robyn came into the picture. Since the show has aired, we've heard about the same flipping struggles of being in a polygamous marriage over and over again. I don't understand why they feel the need to constantly tell us the same shit in different episodes as if we'll forget how hard it is. MOVE ON!

-How difficult being in a polygamous marriage can be, especially when you only get to see your husband for a day.

-Christine's constant struggle with accepting Robyn and the jealousy and issues that have occurred between her and Kody. Almost every fucking episode shows that and it's been 2 years now. I'm tired of seeing the pity party now.

-Christine constantly telling the viewers how she always wanted to be the 3rd wife. You can say it to us in gibberish if you wish but we all know how you always wanted to be wife #3. There is no need to constantly remind us of that. We get it. Move on.

-Robyn crying for no reason whatsoever.

-How insensitive Kody can be to one of his wives or all of them. He's a douchebag but you chose to marry him. No need to constantly tell us.

Whoa - am I reading this wrong or did Janelle move out for 2 YEARS following the birth of Gabriel?? Or is it more like she just lived in her own house...like she is doing now?

http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2 ... nelle-meri

From the sister wives blog:

After a particularly brutal fight with Meri, and Kody's subsequent lack of empathy, Janelle packed up her children and moved in with her mother for several months until she could find her own place. She went back to school and obtained a degree in accounting. Kody still visited her and the kids. She lived in her own house for 2 years, until Kody moved to the big house in Lehi.

I watch this show occasionally and I seem to hear about how people thought he was gay in high school.

He needs it up the ass. None of the women can do that.

Mr. Brown needs some sort reminder that he's not the most unique man in America, let alone the whole world.

And he needs a Fleshlight.

This was way better then the Kody article. I was so hoping Janelle would have stayed behind in Utah, insteda of moving to Vegas. She was the only one in the family with a great salaried job (according to state records making close to 60k with full benefits). She could have easily been comfortable living alone again. She would have been able to have a car that wasn't duck taped shut and she could have afforded to buy a smaller home in the same school area. I remember some webiste posted a close up shot of her dairy in a Vegas episode where she is frustrated again over the lack of financial security which is very important to her.

As for Kody, guess what you can have one wife that has it all. You don't need one to be organized, one to be fun loving, one to talk politics, and one to be emotional. I hate to toot my own horn but I can fullfill all of the needs he listed and more and Im just one wife! you just have to find the right women. I do seriously doubt he will take a 5th wife.

I watch the show (by watch I mean I have it on in the background while I do other shit) so maybe this has been mentioned and I missed it. How do they handle money? Do they just pool it all together and everyone gets an allowance or...?

IIRC, they said on the show that they pool the money. However, someone mentioned on a thread here that there were indications they could be lying about that. Although I'm not sure how it would work if they didn't pool their resources (some of the wives bring home money and others don't so... do the ones with jobs just keep their own money and the unemployed wives split Kody's money or what?)

This is tricky. Janelle admits to paying the mortgage in Lehi. Kody paid for groceries and utilites? so clearly there is some pooling of money. There is also seperation of money because it is a known fact at least 2 of the wives take welfare. They have to be claiming they are single mothers and getting no money from the sisters wives?

In normal polygamy the money is pooled for the major expenses but wives still have spending money for themselves and the kids. In normal polygamy the husband usually has a better job then Kody and is not paying 4 rents/ultilies so most likely he pays the majority of the mortgage(alot are mortgage free because they build slowly cheaply made homes or have triple wides) and household bills.

It has always seemed to me that it would be cheaper and easier to just get a housekeeper/cook/ babysitter rather than take on another wife. they alwasy say how nice it is to have help but isn't it better to have help AND a full-time hubby?

3 is enough

Christine was receiving food stamps and possibly Medicaid for her kids. She could swing this since she and Kody aren't legally married. Some enterprising folks over at TWOP found all kinds of financial dirt on the Browns. Apparently they have filed for bankruptcy multiple times.

Janelle's 60K a year might have been sufficient to support herself and her children, but it wouldn't come close to supporting the whole gang. Kody was working in sales, so his income was dependent on commissions, and was not constant.

Meri had a part time job, and she did say that since she only had one child, her daughter didn't want for much.

At least when they lived in Utah, there was only one house, one mortgage payment, one set of utility payments, etc. But they were still clearly struggling. So, what does dumbass Kody do? Adds Robyn, who has 3 extra kids, no job, and debt of her own. And they have to rent a place for her. How stupid can you get?

They must be using the TLC money just to get by in Vegas. No jobs, 4 rents, cost of living that is significantly higher than Utah- it's mind boggling. The rent on those 4 homes would easily be over 2K a month each. And the utilities? Air conditioning is not cheap. Neither is having a pool, which at least one house has. I'm pretty sure they aren't socking away any money at all, and I sincerely doubt their show will last as long as the Duggars' has.

Kody is the worst. He reminds me of Tom Cruise circa Oprah couch jump: way to manic about things that aren't really that interesting or important.

He's made some bad decisions and they seem to have been made by his penis, so all I can think is good luck to those women and I hope they are legitimately as happy as they claim to be. I don't like to denounce polygamy because I think it's as legitimate a system as anything else, but this family strikes me as pretty dysfunctional and poorly planned.

Maybe I dreamed this, but before they moved I think Kody mentioned that he took care of himself and Meri financially (and then Robyn), and Janelle took care of herself and Christine. He said that he and Janelle would meet about anything else outstanding to decide who could pay for what that month. I remember him saying that because I remember thinking "wow Janelle is the sugar mama and they basically have to keep her around".

Interesting too, during the Christmas episode Kody mentioned that each family had a different budget for gift buying. I wonder how that shakes out.

The wives seem to be getting less and less happy as the show goes on. I kinda sense a fifth wife coming some day because Kody's not one to stay satisfied. With no job, and no money other than a show that can't last long, I have no idea how they're going to make it in the long run. I kind of have hope that Janelle will leave again, but for good. And the older kids will all very soon go away to good colleges. They did at least seem to be holding it together when the show first started, but now they don't even try to keep up that image anymore

Why should a wife have to satisfy ALL his needs?

You can have meaningful relationships with people without marrying or being romantically involved with them.

I would go a step further and argue that anyone who claims their partner fulfills ALL of their needs is not in a very healthy place. My husband and I have our "together" life, which is first and foremost our lives and history as a couple, our lives together as parents - basically the "us". Then he has a career and friends that don't have anything to do with me, and I have the same thing going on. We have several separate interests. I love hiking, for instance. Husband does not. So I have a group of friends I hike with (and socialize with, as well), and he plays tennis and socializes with his friends. I have BFF, who is a very important person in my life, and fulfills a whole set of needs for me that husband is not equipped to fulfill.

So I totally agree that most people benefit from a number of different kinds of relationships, and no one person should be expected to meet ALL the needs for any other person.

I think Kody expects his wives to satisfy all his needs, which is why he keeps getting more. But i don't think any of the 5 in that relationship are in a healthy place. Unless he means needs in a sexual sense, and that's his problem, not theirs. The wives may not satisfy all his needs, but I have a hard time seeing how he satisfies ANY of theirs.

Maybe it goes by the number and ages of the kids?

For instance, Meri wouldn't need nearly as much money to buy gifts for her one daughter as Janelle or Christine would need to buy gifts for all their children.

I have no idea how it works, but wouldn't they get gifts from all of their moms?
