One Million Moms--anyone else heard about this?

Well, I'm as far from fundie as you can get, but I wouldn't let a young child watch Glee (and probably not even a pre-teen, at least not without me and plenty of discussion):

  • teenage sex (and mucho discussion of same, plus pride in sleeping with many boys/girls)

  • teenage pregnancy (along with a little baby daddy fraud)

  • inebriation

  • homophobia (I'm not objecting to gays, but the hatred displayed - I cringed at those scenes where Kurt was being bullied; I could truly imagine the fear a gay kid would feel)

Of course, the fundies would be hysterical over the gays, pluys the skimpy outfits, plus the first three on my list. I'm sure they would also object to a female football coach (and especially the scenes of her in the locker room)

If you don't want your kid watching something on tv, then step up and be a parent and make sure they don't tune in. Don't put a tv in their bedroom. Pay attention to them and make sure you know what their watching. Stop being lazy and be a parent. It's not the rest of the world's job to make sure your child doesn't see or hear anything you don't want them to see or hear.

I like this essay by Stephen King: http://www.nexuslearning.net/books/elem ... 20Take.htm

It mostly says the same thing.

I agree I wouldn't let a child or tween watch Glee. I know some people who watch the show but they don't allow their young children to watch it. There are tons of reasons why fundies would be hysterical over the show like you mentioned. I think some fundies would also hate the public school setting and the show has poked fun at Christianity several times.

Uhm.. I have barely read anything here and I just have to stop there and laugh out loud. Obama was not the inventor of June pride... Pride has been held in June as long as I can remember. I just find it hilarious that they are trying to make it out like Obama is the evil that let Pride in.

When lordpuglover and I went on our honeymoon to disneyworld, we went during June Pride/Gay Pride week. Not a big deal and we didn't even notice until standing in line to go to a night club. We were talking to 2 delightfull young men behind us and they asked what brought us to Disney. We told him we were on our honeymoon. They laughed and said they were too. That is when DH and i noticed that we were the only straight couple in line. We smiled at our new friends and we all had a good giggle. Wonderful young men. :D

Haha yeah I've heard of it. I've added a subscription, and whenever they have a cause they send me an e-mail. In each e-mail they have a link to an already composed e-mail with an e-mail address where to send complaints. Instead of sending the composed e-mail I change it. For example I send my thanks to the companies which support same sex marriage. (So I'm having some fun thanking all the people which they criticize. )

Love it. Just signed up.

Does anyone on Glee actually have sex, though? It seems like there's mostly a lot of discussion about whether or not so-and-so should have sex with so-and-so and the answer they come to usually seems to be no. I have to admit I watch it mostly for the music, so anything that happens between songs usually goes in one ear and out the other, so I may have just forgotten. It's totally the kind of thing I would have watched when I was ten, eleven, twelve, had it been on then(and the sex stuff would have gone right over my head), but I grew up in a family where no TV show, book, band, and very few movies were ever off limits. I imagine you all are right about the main objection being to the gay kids. I had totally forgotten about that. See, that's what I mean about the plot going in one ear and out the other. To me, Glee is a bunch of attractive people singing and dancing, with increasingly inane dialogue about who stole whose boyfriend in between.

I saw this ad this morning...it was cute until the blasphemy! Why do they need to use HIS name that way? You just never ever hear...OH MY MOHAMMAD, or OH MY BUDDA!

 the stupidity, it burns.

In season 1, Finn and Santana had sex and in season 2 Brittany and Artie had sex. It has been implied that some of the other characters have had sex offscreen several times.

there have been one or two scenes where it was pretty clear that santana and brittany were gettin' it on, too.

I'm still trying to convince my partner to go to Disney during gay days! He grew up in Fl. however and was a lifeguard at Disney for several years. His statement is not in objection to gay days it's more "why the hell would we go to Disney in the heat of summer!?".. and I sorta get it... but I still want to go. I think when we take our future children down there it'll be during gay days, if nothing else then to show them other people have gay parents too!

They dislike the Axe commerical with the fallen angels.

I find Axe offensive, but only because it smells like the distilled essence of a thousand horny teenage boys. About the One Million Moms-do they seriously have nothing better to do all day than clutch their pearls about this crap?

One Million Moms is on the Regretsy-quasi-spinoff site winningateverything.com today, it's so ridiculous that I actually wondered for a moment if their group may be satirical. I've been on FJ long enough to know better, though: http://winningateverything.com/2831

Oh dear God, I didn't notice this the last time I went through the site. @_@ So, hearing "Shut the Front Door" will make kids say STFU?

Hey, One Million Pearl-Clutchers, this is where I learned curse words:

- Overhearing my dad when he got angry

- Kids at school when the teachers weren't around

This is not where I learned curse words:

- Commercials for store-bought cookies

Plus, I think if I said "Shut the Front Door" as a kid, my parents would just laugh and be glad I wasn't saying actual swear words.

The reason Pride is in June is because that's when the Stonewall riots took place. Gah, ahistorical idiots.

And speaking of Axe commercials:

I hate that angel Axe commercial too, but that's because my younger brother saw it and decided he wanted to wear Axe now. It smells terrible and now it's seeped into the sofa. I can't watch television or play video games any more without the stench assaulting my nose.

This. I'm pretty sure the kids actually know what STFU means and are deliberately saying something without curse words instead. Seems like a positive move to me...

I agree with others on Axe. My boyfriend tried the stuff for awhile and end up hating it. Recently at his job, one of his co-workers who has 10 year old son was furious that her nephew gave her son Axe bodywash as part of his birthday present.

I decided to check out the OMM site and see if they were bitching about something new and I had to laugh at these complaints on Disney Channel movie.

onable content at times, but many parents still consider, or at least hope, it is a family-friendly channel since it is a network made for children. Last night was the first night they aired the film "Little Manhattan" which was not suitable for children.

In Manhattan, the 10 ¾-year-old Gabe finds his first love when he meets his former kindergarten mate, the eleven-year-old Rosemary, in his karate classes. Confused with his new feelings and with his parents in the process of divorce; he experiences being in love for the first time.

The parents appear to reconcile in the end, but during the movie Gabe's separated parents are still living in the same apartment while his dad sleeps on the sofa and his mom is going out on a date with another man. Towards the end of the movie while the children are attending a wedding, Rosemary asks Gabe to dance. His response was, "What the hell?!" While they danced the groom is dancing with his bride who is obviously nine months pregnant in the background.

This is not material that should be included in a children's movie especially on a kid's network. Disney Channel typically airs the same movie repeatedly and as a warning to concerned mothers, this is not a safe film for your family to watch.

I laughed at that whole thing. To start off, that movie sounds pretty realistic and I think a lot of kids probably wouldn't notice certain things about it. When I was 9 years old, I had a cousin who was 22 or 23 at the time and she had a shotgun wedding and I didn't think it was weird and I already had the understanding that women in different situations become pregnant.

Right now I'm going to snark on some of the OMM testimonials.

This web site is an answer to prayer. I have wanted for so long to have a voice heard on these issues and I just felt I couldn't do much UNTIL NOW! This is going to change things.

- Alison R.

No Alison R. that website isn't an answer to your prayers. Similar groups and people have been doing things or attempting to do things like OMM for a long time now. I guess Alison has never heard of PTC or other groups that have been around for awhile. A group like OMM likely will not change a lot of things.

I am proud to be a member of OMM and feel so good that there is someone out there helping us make a stand against such horrific things going on in TV and other areas. I feel that through OMM, I am helping make a difference.

- Judith B.

Judith B you aren't making a difference and you won't be able to make a stand against all the horrific things that go on in TV. To start off, not all entertainment throughout history has been family friendly. Look at the various forms of past literature, a lot of that contained plots, characters and other things that some would deem horrific. Also Judith you won't make a difference because many people who work in the TV industry aren't religious and don't feel they need to have a 24/7 moral obligation to the public. There is a good amount of gay and lesbian TV writers and also some TV writers and producers have stated that they aren't really religious. So good luck on trying to make a difference because you are going to need it lol.

I'm a 65 yr. old great grand mom and today I had the OPPORTUNITY to be able to register with OMM!!! I always wondered what we could do to clobber the offensive programming on television and am so very proud to be part of OMM! Thanks so very much for helping OMM band together and hit these people in the pocket books!

- June B.

Geez woman you aren't registering with MENSA so get off your high horse. OMM won't be hitting in anyone in the pocket books. Advertisers rarely listen to people like you. I'm sure Boost Mobile who advertises during Glee will not care what a 65 year old great grand mom has to say. They know that many of the potential customers are tuning into Glee. Also many people choose to watch the programming that you feel is offensive and obviously there is enough people watching certain programming because many shows are still on the air, so no pocketbooks will be hit.

If they don't like it so much and want to make a change how about doing ewhat I do and turn the damn TV off. Not that hard folks.

Here are a few more "issues" that I find hilarious, because at this moment I don't have much better to do than troll this gem of a site.

NBC Now Promotes Playboy and Portrays Hugh Hefner in a Positive Light

The Comcast owned NBC network will air a new show this fall called "The Playboy Club" and subtitled "An American icon is born." The show is about Hugh Hefner's pioneering of the porn industry with his Playboy Enterprises. The NBC website for this show states, "This provocative new series captures a time and place that challenged the social mores, where a visionary created an empire, and an icon changed American culture."

Playboy, with the cooperation of NBC and their use of the public airwaves, will continue to subject families to the destruction of pornography, contribute to addictions or porn, and portray women as sexual objects. All of these results are harmful to our society. This program is degrading to women and damaging to our culture.

First, since when was Hugh Hefner a pioneer of the porn industry? Not to mention, someone should indicate to these women that pornographic imagery has been around for a hell of a long time. Second, they're making it sound like NBC is actually going to display porn, instead of a show about Hugh Hefner. Third...it's called discretion folks. Not everything is going to be suitable for young children. Oh, and since this show is supposed to run at ten p.m., per the website, young kids probably shouldn't be up at that hour anyway.

Blasphemy on Grey's Anatomy

The January 6, 9:00 p.m. (ET) episode of Grey's Anatomy belittled our God with blasphemous name calling and use of foul language.

A surgeon on the show is losing a patient while on the operating table and says, "Come back to your body." The doctor then looks up and says, "Bastard! You Bastard! Bring this boy back right now!" The patient's vitals come back, and the doctor looks up again and in a low voice muffles, "Sorry about the Bastard thing." This verifies they know they were in the wrong.

Um, since when is Grey's Anatomy family-friendly programming? Really, how many little kids are staying up to watch Grey's? Not many, I would guess.

Also, do these moms plan to follow their children everywhere and cover their ears when someone says "Bastard" or takes God's name in vain? Because, you know, people tend to do that in the real world. And shocking as it sounds, there's a lot worse language than that.

Jack in the Box crude commercial has no business being on TV!

Jack in the Box restaurants may push away customers if they continue advertising in a manner that offends parents. Their newest commercial has Jack stopping by his parent's house for a visit. While talking with his mom in the kitchen, his dad runs in and says, "Call the doctor! It has been more than four hours!" and looks down. Jack says, "I gotta go!" because he is embarrassed along with anyone who is viewing this commercial.

For one thing, I really highly doubt a young child is going to watch that commercial and understand what "more than four hours" means. I know I didn't when I was a kid and if my nephew and niece asked me what that meant, I'd simply make something up and maybe get them to do something besides watching TV. Also, why aren't they going after the ED commercials as well? I'm flipping through their issues and I don't see it. They're probably more blunt than the Jack in the Box commercial. Not saying they should, but it would make more sense.

This site is a train wreck. I hate it, but I keep checking every so often to see what hare-brained thing they're complaining about now.

I really, really hope they are not successful in getting things censored. I don't let my 9 yo watch Glee, are you kidding me? It comes on after her bedtime, anyway. If you don't like something, you have the freedom to turn it off and tell your kids that it was inappropriate. The only people who want TV to be 100% kid friendly are the ones who use it as a babysitter.
