2020 Election Fallout 14: Arrests And The Big Lie

The FBI has made hundreds of arrests and the GQP is still touting The Big Lie. Biden won, fair and square, they just can't accept it. I'm sure it's because they're terrified The Former Guy will speak out against them publicly, ruining their chances to win voters from his repulsive base.

Why take so long to say it?

How fitting that the picture of Bro Gary Hawkins sneering came up in the link back to the old thread. He still wears his Trump 2020 hat, and even screams about Trump still being his president, not "Bahden and that Harrison woman" when he preaches.

Well, duh. Of course he opposes. Can't have the truth coming out about his dear leader, now can he?

Uh well bipartisan would be a waste of time anyway. If GOP is involved they're going to cover up.

I'm going to describe this lawyer - and I'm going to use the colloquial term, perhaps disrespectfully - as a idiot bigoted sleazebucket fucknuckle. If you want to argue that your client is autistic, that he has low IQ - go for it, but (a) provide some pre-Jan 6th diagnoses and evidence of this, (b) show proof - any proof - that it contributed in any damn way to him turning up and cosplaying insurrection, and (c) stop being a bigoted fuckwit because you know what? The vast majority of people at the Jan 6th insurrection weren't in the specialist classes. The people who were at the protests probably made fun of the kids that were in those classes, using that "colloquial, possibly disrespectful" language. Your client got himself to and from Washington, with a costume in tow. Yeah I think his planning and organisational skills function just fine.

If you want to argue the Trump defence then go for it - but make your client aware that Trump has money, and Trump always skates. He was used and now he is no use to them - you might want to let him know just how used he was, and how screwed he actually is.

Hmm. If this is true, it would help explain how Collins won, despite having a strong challenger and being widely expected to lose.

Would this mean that, if found to be true, Collins could be ousted out of office as a consequence? Or am I being way too optimistic?

If this is the case with Susan Collins it‘s very possible she isn‘t the only one.

It's not likely she'd be booted, unfortunately.

Oh where is my "oh dear, what a pity, never mind" reaction? Eyeroll is close, but does not cover the sheer lack of concern I have over their potential discomfort.

Honestly, I have to admit to feeling a little gleeful at the thought of them squirming with discomfort.

ACYN on Twitter: "Ron Johnson is against the 1/6 commission because he says Nancy Pelosi needs to be held accountable for security lapses."

Y'all, this is absolutely 100% trying to drag BENGHAZZZZZZZZI! out of its cold dead grave.

The New York Times reported that  Richard Barnett,  the insurrectionist photographed with his feet on Nancy Pelosi's desk, was offered a plea deal of between 70 and 87 months, but the offer was rejected by Barnett's lawyer.

Four days later, "someone" posted (incorrectly) on social media that Richard Barnett had agreed to a plea deal of 7 years in Federal prison.

Fact: In April, Barnett was released from jail to his home  with an ankle monitor,  forbidden from

  • possessing weapons of any kind
  • associating w/ insurrectionists
  • traveling more than 50 miles from home
  • obtaining a new passport

A relative had to wear an alcohol sensing ankle monitor for months after a DUI, and install a breathalyzer ignition unlock in the car -- and pay monthly fees for all of it. So at least we have the satisfaction of knowing this asshat will probably have to pay a monthly fee for his own ankle monitor.

In case anybody else is like me, and is wondering how showering works with such a monitor, here you go:

Quote

People under house arrest, on parole, or on probation are often made to wear electronic monitoring ankle bracelets. According to Prison Legal News, there are around 200,000 people wearing these devices today. While some argue electronic monitoring helps reduce prison populations, others fear the nascent legal framework hasn't been under enough scrutiny.

Strapping an electric tether on people raises a lot of questions. Most importantly, how do you shower with one?

The short answer: they're waterproof.

Because different states use different devices made by different companies, the level of water-resistance varies, but they all should be able to withstand a simple shower. This GPS monitoring ankle bracelet, for example, is waterproof up to 50 feet, so it's conceivable that someone could safely and legally snorkel while under the watchful eye of the state. Others include instructions that say they shouldn't to be used in a pool or jacuzzi. If a signal is blocked because the monitor is submerged past a point it can handle, it will register that the wearer has tampered with the monitor or left their house and the authorities will be contacted.

Some monitors are designed to detect and send alerts if the subject has consumed alcohol. These are called SCRAMs (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor), and they sample and analyze the wearer's sweat. People have tried to fake SCRAMs out by putting a barrier between their skin and the device, but the monitor can detect this and registers it as tampering. The instructions for SCRAMs state that brief contact with a towel after showering should be the only thing to ever come between skin and the device. (They also recommend using a blow dryer on low if a towel doesn't do the trick.)

In all instances, the parole or correctional officer who attaches the ankle monitor has the final say on what it can handle. It's designed to be an extension of them, after all.

I know I should not be surprised, but it astounds me that so many rioters pretty much summoned the FBI to their doorsteps with their social media posts, videos, etc.    And will serve as the the evidence that convicts them.  And they will be shocked, shocked I tell you.

If I get the job I’m gunning for in the Iron Range of Minnesota I think this will be a lot of my practice dealing with idiots who boasted on FB about their crimes.
