Lithuania is part of the NATO and the EU. I don't know what they think they can achieve with that move, but if they think they can now after 30 years after becoming independend take that back, they are mistaken. And if they move on and declare Lithuania's independence invalid, what comes next? I don't think that the rest of the world will go with their claims and gift this country, as small as it is, the russians.

The Russian government may be perceiving “the West’s” reluctance to enter fully into a war against Russia over Ukraine as a sign of weakness that they can exploit.  They may hope that “the West” will get tired of “helping.” Claiming Lithuania now just gives Russians something else to go after.

They seem pretty confident that they will take over all of southern and eastern Ukraine.  If they succeed, their plan is to go after more.

Lithuania is a member of the European Union and NATO. It will be World War if Russia invades. The NATO agreement requires that all members help defend if one country is invaded.

Sometimes I wonder if some part of the Russian leadership wants whatever they imagine will be WWIII.

Russia’s style of fighting has often been “destroy as much as we can even though they destroy us back because we have greater endurance.”

Maybe they have a muddled idea that the West will hesitate to wipe them out and in that hesitation they will get to wipe the West out.

it seems crazy to us, but the Russians are definitely doing some crazy things by our standards.  Yet they keep getting away with it.

Russia is going to lose 15 years of economic gains due to Vlad the Invader attacking Ukraine according to financial experts.

Quote

Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine will wipe out 15 years of economic growth in Russia, according to an influential association of finance experts.

The prediction was made by the Institute of International Finance, a collective made of representatives from global finance firms. It was reported Wednesday by the Reuters news agency.

The group cited several repercussions from the invasion that would hit Russia's finances hard.

These reasons have to do with companies not doing business with or in Russia, the Russians not being able to export all that much now, and more talented Russians leaving.  Nice job fixing it Vlad.

Yeah, Putin has made Russia very unpopular.  Meanwhile, he is destroying huge swaths of Ukraine and threatening the world food supply. Tragic.
