@Katzchen24 it is difficult, not least because her point that she and other women who achieved a great deal in the early days of tennis and other sports have been under-recognised compared to male athletes is a valid one. I think it is good that pretty much every news report I've seen has named her as a bigot - and I suspect the arena may end up being renamed down the track. If nothing else she has focused a lot of attention on the proposed religious discrimination bill - and I don't think people have come away in favour of that bill. Personally though I would have prefered they honoured someone else - Evonne Goolagong Cawley would have been a better choice.

I 100% agree with you about this. Her achievements are worth recognising, and it's good that news reports are including a statement about her offensive opinions. The only problem I see is that without the news reports, there's no context attached to the stadium. I'm expressing this badly, but after the news is finished, there's still a stadium with her name on it. I also agree that Evonne Goolagong Cawley would have been an infinitely more appropriate person.

He is now playing for Spanish Rugby league side Catalan Dragon's. He played his first match since he was sacked and I hope for his sake he has learned his lesson and kept his mouth shut.

Unless he gets away from his father's influence I doubt it.

Sadly, I agree.

Also, I'm so sick of people saying that this infringes on freedom of speech or freedom of religion. The government is not punishing him for his speech, he is free to say what he wants, and the government is not persecuting him for his religion. I feel like I need to say this way too often (at least in my head) to Christians exclusively- freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences and freedom of religion does not mean spewing your beliefs everywhere all the time.

Well said. I also can’t help but not e his post is the same kind of format and sentiment of many ignorant protesting in price the lysing signs out there. I wonder how the sign waiver decides what “sins” to plaster on - it shows how fundies/evangelicals love to cherry pick. I assume that they call out sins that they are either extremely tempted by/engaging in secretly, or they pick whichever ones they aren’t practicing. I have seen a pic of one that condemned “porno freaks”, and “sissies” (which makes me laugh) but not other things. Another listed smoking pot right along with child molesters, which shows the imbalanced sense of justice many fundies have. Even if you think smoking pot is a sin - which the closest thing would be drunkenness I suppose which is a totally different feeling but whatever - it’s no where near the level of pedophilia.
