‘Woman Has No Right Over Her Own Body – It Belongs To God’

This is what is being preached by Jeff Crawford in Cross Church, Arkansas. You know, the one the Dillards and other Duggars go to. 

Megachurch Pastor: ‘Woman Has No Right Over Her Own Body – It Belongs To God’

Arguing against a woman’s right to choose an abortion, an Arkansas megachurch pastor claims a woman has no right over her own body, because “it all belongs to God.”

During a Sunday sermon at Cross Church about the dangers of pornography, Pastor discussed what he calls “theological dualism” while arguing that a woman has no “right over her own body.”

Crawford told his congregation:

We have bought into what I want to call this morning theological dualism. This is the idea that you can separate what goes on with our bodies with what goes on soul and spirit… Our soul and our spirit is uniquely linked to our body. They cannot be separated.

Crawford exclaimed:

This idea that you hear about in the abortion debate that it’s a woman’s right to choose and she has the right over her own body, no, that’s not true!

 

Well, if I follow that logic, and my body indeed belongs to God, then you don't get a say what happens to it either, you misogynistic moron!

I tried to write down a thoughtful, argumentative response, but this statement is flawed on so many levels that I don't even know where to begin. 
Besides, I would only be preaching to the choir. I think that the lack of reason in this statement is indicative of the overall ignorance of adherents of this type of toxic, patriarchal belief system, and that they wouldn’t recognize reason even if the bible spelled it out for them.

Whenever anyone is tempted to think that someone is not that fundie because of how they dress, they should remember this. You can wear jeans, date and still have horrifically fundie beliefs.

And besides, Christians voluntarily surrender their bodies to God (Romans 12:1) which means that isn't the default state. Doesn't apply to people who don't subscribe to Christianity.... consent and personal autonomy should be there.

Yep, our bodies belong to god. Which is why men should never ever jack off, because that would mean abusing God's creation and killing God's little sperm, hmmm?

People who make and distribute the pornography that is causing all those mass sperm-murders should get the treatment doctors who perform abortions are currently getting. Oh, and it shouldn't be possible to even access a porn website without being harassed for minutes on end about how sperm is alive! They all have little tails, you see! and they move! and they contain so much DNA! And then the computer would shout "this is murder! mur-der!" for a full minute before the porn website can even load.

Of course good young men who have been caught on the brink of masturbating shouldn't be completely shunned - maybe they could be sent to special godly homes to be lectured at length about the consequences of their actions (with draconian rules and curfews to keep 'em on the straight and narrow).

So many of the same men who are angry about women having any kinds of birth control on insurance are utterly fine having cialis/viagra as an insurance norm, so they're definitely not surrendering their own erections to God!
