It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. These weasels never really go away; they just go behind the scenes or they re-emerge elsewhere.

Now?! In the middle of a scandal involving his most visible family? Maybe the political tone-deafness will be his eventual downfall.

Interesting wording

basic allegations were false
that makes me think there is a "but" there for the rest of the story

Victim Blaming

When I continued this schedule with the Institute staff, it became a cause of offense to several who worked closely with me
translation: not my fault they became offended, that is their problem

In affirming these young ladies a bond was established, that in some cases was different than I had intended.
translation: but that was her fault, not mine, I didn't do anything wrong the girl took it the wrong way.

However, when I felt that a young lady was spiritually strong I began to work with another one. The first one would feel neglected and in some cases rejected. This was hurtful to them.
translation: girls are childish and act in childish ways, it's not my fault they were offended when I cast one off with no explanation and got a new one.

When people would talk to me about my actions, I would quickly evaluate their concerns and if I determined that they were not important, I dismissed them.
translation: I dismissed all the concerns because I am god and I can do no wrong

those who believed these reports relived their Headquarters experience through these false presuppositions and were deeply offended.
translation: again, NOT MY FAULT! I can't help that the girls were offended, I am god, I didn't do anything wrong, it's the fault of the hussy girls that you sent me to slave away in my office.

File under never going to happen

This means that when I remember somebody whom I have offended, I will contact them directly and ask for their forgiveness

Don't wait by your phones ladies, he will never call because he is god and never did anything wrong.

Bill Gothard...Mark Driscoll...it's the newest game in town, Dirty Old Man Whack-A-Mole!

I knew Bill wasn't going to really give up his ministry. He has been lurking in the shadows figuring out a way to return to the spotlight.

How does this affect his heir apparent, the Pecan Thief?

Wow. That Gothard letter was some incredibly self-serving, delusional b.s. Do we really think he took it down or it was taken down by others? I can't believe given all of the sudden scrutiny into his organization that he would pick this moment to announce that it was just silly girls misunderstanding his godly behavior. And he thought that this would work? He is far, far worse than I had imagined.

Gothard, that shit makes Josh's bullshit apology look honest and sincere.

Well Josh was a student of good 'ole bill's curriculum. :disgust:

I was thinking that as well. A man so in love with power can't stay out of the spotlight for long, no matter how small the spotlight and how long its shadows.

Gothard has no sense of timing. I knew that like a rash- we would eventually come back. But why would he choose now in the middle of the Duggar crapstorm that his name is being associated with?

I am guessing that something was already in the works before the Duggar junk hit the fan and he just didn't put the brakes on it.

Heh, sounds like all Bill did wrong was love too much, help too much, and have too much faith in needy young ladies. They all accused him of things when he decided they were strong enough for him to help another young lady.

The most amazing thing in this statement is that bill got hard dot com is not a porn site.

The "statement" is revolting, but the bold made my afternoon.

Based on the URL " http://subdomain.billgothard.com/attorneys-1.html" and the fact that it went up and came down so quickly, I'd be that it was not intended to be released yet but that someone wanted to be able to view it online pre-release and an underling screwed up the upload/security. As soon as the realized it was publicly accessible, they took it down.

Just a guess.

Love that the explanation statement is in a file called 'attorneys-1.html' What a weasel.

I found it on Recovering Grace. I read through the "personal testimonies" of those who were blessed by him. All women, of course, lol. http://www.recoveringgrace.org/media/Pe ... monies.jpg

I swear, the Sara looks REALLY familiar, and her story does too. And a broken engagement was mentioned, and she recently got married to "God's choice of a husband". Please, look at it and see if anyone else recognizes her too?

That's Sara Smith now Sara Absher. She has two previous broken courtships, one to a Maxwell. Christopher I think. She joined a dating site and found love and now is pregnant. She used to work - and probably still does - for IBLP

I wouldn't assume that the people whose names are on those "testimonies" actually wrote them - at least not all of them. Lots of red flags are popping up in my mind.

Tim Bayly really, really did not like his father-in-law, and he's posting stuff about his connection to Gothard:

“When we heard of the Bill Gothard scandal, my brother David suggested we post Dad's articles from the late seventies that appeared in ETERNITY magazine in which Dad took Gothard to task for a number of things, and suffered the consequences. What consequences? Much pressure and criticism from friends and Evangelical leaders across the country, including my father-in-law, Ken Taylor. Dad Taylor figured prominently in Bill Gothard's attempt to cover up his brother, Steven's, sexual immorality…â€
