Hooray Scotland!

I hate to be an arse but it hasn't passed yet, precisely ;)

Scottish Bills go through three stages. Stage 1 is the first stage where the Bill is scrutinised by committee and found to be competent (or not). It's also the stage where various parliamentarians get up on their hind legs and vouchsafe their opinions on the Bill. This is a vital stage because if the Bill fails here it fails completely, but it's not going to mean it's read into law tomorrow.

Stage 2 is where rival parties and the like compete to get amendments added to the Bill. In the case of this Bill it's going to mean greater protections for the right to dissent from the concept of same-sex marriage, and the implications thereof.

Stage 3 is where the newly-attired Bill shines forth in all its glory, with amendments draped around it like drapy things, and fails or is passed into law. Yer same-sex marriage Bill has just passed Stage 1. It has two more to go.
