Another SOTDRT science fail

So the science challenged Trina, who last winter blogged about how she just couldn't understand why her kids had been suffering with sinus infections for several months when she had been diligently feeding them yogurt and sauerkraut:

Has discovered why they were sick! Her house had black mold. Well, she know about the mold you see, but it never occurred to her apparently that mold is bad for you. Thanks to the magic of google, she has managed to figure it out. A year later.

No actual medical professionals or contractors knowledgeable about mold abatement were involved at any point, because this SOTDRT graduate knows more than they do.

Thankfully, my husband has construction experience, and will be able remediate the mold himself.

Thankfully, when he started working on it, he found that the 7 layers of flooring and 3 layers on the wall in that old bathroom had protected the actual structure of the bathroom from too much mold.

Um... WHAT? "Too much mold?" She does realize that mold spores are TINY, like, small enough for you to inhale and may not be visible all the time? Thats why there are special companies that deal with mold... not a local painter.

Does she not have a mortgage? I know theres a clause written into mine that my ass will have a certified mold person come out if its found...

moron...

Mold is nothing to mess around with- I've watched enough home improvement shows to know this and I've known people who found black mold in their homes. When you find black mold you get out of the house and you call a mold abatement company. However, these are fundies we're talking about here. They'll just pray to Jesus and hope the problem disappears.

Not all mold is black mold, not even if it is black colored. I cannot believe demolished her bathroom without confirming whether it was black mold or just typicaly bathroom mold!

Geesh people!!!! Penicillin is mold TOO but it's not dangerous for you.

"True" black mold is indeed quite hazardous to health - especially the health of young children. THAT is why these brainless fundies should actually call someone who KNOWS. WHAT. THEY. ARE. DOING.

It's dangerous to my headship and heathen #1! They're allergic. ;-)

Last I heard, the authorities thought that mold was what caused the illness that killed Brittany Murphy and her husband. Which made the King of the Hill episode about mold a lot less funny . . .

Okay well ~ not everyone knows that some moulds can be unhealthy.. and not everyone agrees on that either. We lived in a rental for four years with mould on the basement walls and our landlord insisted that it wasn't a health hazard when I asked and just had his maintenance guys scrape and paint every so often. (It kept coming back, so they did too) --- this wasn't a slum or irresponsible landlord either, he's a well respected guy who owns a HUGE amount of properties here and takes care of them well.

I googled to see who that was - that's Daisy from Girl Interrupted, I didn't know she had died!

Wait, she got Mono from the mould?

Mono, as in what we in Aus call Glandular Fever? Mono as in Mononucleosis?

I'm no doctor and I haven't googled mould toxicity and its symptoms, but Mononucleosis is a viral infection, right? A herpes virus?

How do you get that from mould? It's totally possible she has completely misdiagnosed herself, but you surely cannot get that virus from mould. Does she mean that the mould weakened her immune system and made her susceptible to a Mononucleosis episode because she had previously contacted the virus? I can see how mould toxicity might cause symptoms that mimic those of Mononucleosis (swelling of glands, red throat, breathing issues, fever etc) but that's not the same as having the virus. I wonder if she knows she's saying she has a herpes virus? If she didn't know black mould is toxic I'm guessing not.

If she thinks she got Glandular Fever from the mould I think that's yet another SOTDRT science fail on its own.

I can't understand why ANYONE would allow their family remain sick for 2 years! And she didn't want to sugar "cote" the problem. Okay.

THat woman is certifiable!

I'm allergic to mold and even a little bit of it in a house can make me sick in a hurry. Last summer my husband and I went to see an apartment with my sister and brother-in-law as they were moving to the area. We could see mold in the bathroom. Within 15 minutes I was congesting with a running nose, itching eyes, red, puffy and itchy face and chest. We got out of there as fast as we could and I still ended up sick for a week. My family jokes that I'm the mold-detector. The idea of living in a house with a bathroom full of mold for over a year and being SICK the entire time? It makes me shudder.

I am very allergic to Penicillin and have horrible mold reactions, so it is indeed dangerous to some!

But he still wasn't a mold remediator.

Are you sure?

When jesus washed

(when jesus washed)
