Hi guys!

Yo! Curious added me to the group this morning. I'm so excited to share what I've done with someone!  I figured I would introduce myself first. Hi, I'm Rajah and I'm a doctor. I love to color (duh). I'm very particular about what I color with. I hate crayons (too streaky) and I'm not big on colored pencils ( not a fan of how much work it takes to get a darker color). I much prefer markers. Easy to use, no sharpening, finer tips than colored pencils, and a broader range of colors of shades.

A couple quesitons from members

Hey fellow colorists, There are a couple questions being asked in the coloring for grownups thread.   I don't think many of you follow that thread, so I am posting their questions here so they might get the best variety of answers. @ofDany asks: @caszandra asks: I know you guys will be a blessing for them in their coloring journey

Sorry to hog the blog...

...but I started this on the plane home on Sunday so I decided to finish it. That's it for Lost Garden, for a while at least. I am embarrassed to be posting so many in a few days but, well, I'm doing it anyway. (FJ is responsible for my addiction so it's not my fault.)

Beetle & Flowers

This is the first page I've done from the Incredible Insects book by Creative Haven.  I chose a less complicated design to give my eyes a rest, but it was still fun and I like the way it turned out.  Have also finished one from my new Curious Creatures book and am working on another one from it right now. It's become my second favorite coloring book after Creative Cats.      Beetle page colored with Prismas, Copics, and Winsor & Newton ProMarkers.

A fish

This was quick!  I don't mind the lines in the blue area because it looks kind of 'watery'.

Yoga Kitty

Here's my latest page that I've managed to finish. I actually really like this book, the pictures aren't difficult but it's cats doing yoga! I can't resist. I colored this with my trusty gel pens but I'm getting jealous of the fancy markers everyone else has and am going to break down and buy some. I've heard Prismacolor, Copic, and Windsor & Newton being used by people here. Any advice to a newbie on which is best? I do like a really fine tip.

Busy Work

My husband and I tried to figure out how long this took. We don't know, but it's more than twenty hours. It's just full of teeny tiny things. I love my markers, by the way!  Once again, the photo doesn't show it well, though I did take it outside. If I were to do this again, and I assure you I wouldn't, I would do it in more minimal colours and leave some white spaces I think.  This whole page was more an excercise in 'tapping' than colouring! But, I am a masochist apparently, because I dec

My Pretty Pony

Here's my first completed page from the Art Nouveau book.  Colored with Prismas, Copics, and Winsor & Newton Promarkers.  Couldn't take the photo of the page outside since it's raining and there's no good light so I gave it a try indoors again.  Am clipping my coloring pages to an artist's tote board I bought from Amazon and it really is helpful for support while coloring lying in bed. I have the day off and am now working on pages from the insect book and Curious Creatures!

My first coloured pictures

I received a colouring book with Japanese patterns for my birthday and here are two pages I've completed. The drawings are beautiful, but sometimes with tiny details, and I only have some cheap fibre-tip pens that are woefully inadequate... I also tried to use my aquarellable pencils, but the results were rather disappointing. I guess I should buy some better pens; I saw some great advice around here and I'll look into it in the (hopefully) near future.  Oh, and I took the picture with my ph

Indian Mandala 2

Another Indian Mandala.  Done with ultra fine sharpies.  One or two sections in a flair.  The background is colored pencil (yes there are two tones and I see in the photo that the pale lavender is hard to see).  There's also a peach colored pencil on one of the rings (the one that more or less looks white between the yellow ring and the orange circle).  The sharpies bleed but this book is one sided.  I typically put a couple of sheets of paper under pages when I'm using markers (even the flairs)

Brown Celtic Knots

This one is in Crayola Pipsqueaks I believe the colors were Sepia, something mustard, melon and raw sienna.  From the Celtic Knot work and kaleidoscopes book.    I considered using a dark green on the borders but liked the sepia/mustard/melon tones so much I used raw sienna instead.  and the background is left undone intentionally because I thought it would have gotten overly busy (and I don't always feel compelled to do backgrounds).  I did this one at work over a series of lunch periods - star

Radiant Health Affirmation Pages

Both pages from the Louise Hay Affirmations book.  The first was done with CraZ Art colored pencils (72 count).  The second with the wording is with Frixion gel pens - (dark blue and yellow from the set I used previously).  And Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Blue and Red from this set:  Frixion Erasable Gels.  This book has thicker pager, is 2 sided and the gels did not bleed through.  The first took a while because I started it, left it, came back to it over and over.  I typically 'feel' color wh

Two New Pictures!

I have some new pictures to show off! First up is a Creative Cat going for a dip in the ocean.  I think this page is so cute.  I just wish I hadn't made the inner tube a dark green, because it doesn't pop against the blue of the ocean.  Other than that, I like this page.   This one is from Enchanted Forest.  I put those color pencils to block out my name, lol.  I didn't want to make all the leaves green, but I'm not sure how I feel about some of the unusually colored leaves.

Multi coloured butterfly

6 colours used hope you can make them out.  The nib was a lot finer at 0.3mm but I used little pressure colouring in.  I like this one I have too say and it turned out better than I excepted.

Peacock Landscape Finished!

Here's a rare example of me trying to color a bit more realistically than usual!  I like the way my peacock turned out.    Copics and Prismas to color and it's from the Peacock Designs book by Creative Haven.  The real page looks better than the photo, but you all know how that goes.

Lost Ocean 'greyscwhale'

Well, I did indeed finish this guy last night in the dark, with the aid of my iPhone light. I am brilliant for thinking of doing that, and I am ridiculous for actually doing that. I checked him out just now and have declared him fit for presentation. I like him.

Maybe there IS a heaven because that's where I've been today!

Please permit me to share my last few hours with people who will understand my euphoria. My husband and I are spending a few days in Florida, where I have zero colouring supplies. So, we went to Michael's. You guys, for the first time ever I held Copic markers in my hands!!1!   But, wait, there's a locked case with Winson & Newton markers!  Tons of colours available!  'Mr. F, quickly, find me Orchid!' 'Not there?'  'Shit.'  'Excuse me, miss, do you have Urine Yellow?'  'What do you mean ther

My first effort

Hi everyone! Here is my first attempt. Well, first attempt in over 16 years, when I used to color once in awhile in some of the Dover and Bellepheron books, and those big Daisy Art (?? Doodle Art ??) art posters they used to have in the drug stores. It's from the Creative Haven Steampunk Fashions Coloring Book. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not thrilled with all of the color choices I made, but for the most part I like it. I was particularly pleased with how all of the leather acce

My first colored picture

Like I said, I color by lamplight, sitting on my bed, at night.  This is the first one I have done, my daughter says it's better than I think it is.   I hope I've done this right.

I liked how she turned out, the design is  simple yet stately. Bonus points for identifying the eye traps in her dress.
