Busy Work

My husband and I tried to figure out how long this took. We don't know, but it's more than twenty hours. It's just full of teeny tiny things. I love my markers, by the way!  Once again, the photo doesn't show it well, though I did take it outside. If I were to do this again, and I assure you I wouldn't, I would do it in more minimal colours and leave some white spaces I think.  This whole page was more an excercise in 'tapping' than colouring!image.thumb.jpeg.1ec28d3197c91676fbbecb5

But, I am a masochist apparently, because I decided to do the background. Here's a corner I've started. My marker is too big so, basically I'm making a mess, as can be plainly seen.  If I ever finish I will post it.  This will be hours of work.

Wow!  This is incredible.  I can't believe you could keep looking at this design long enough to do such a great coloring job.  This is the kind of design I could never do and now you're doing the background?  It will look amazing when you're finished, but I hope you have a supply of eye drops and some fineliner markers!   Go for it!!!   :marker:

I know!  When I first saw it I thought, no way I'm doing that. Thanks for saying it looks nice. I actually really enjoyed doing it, which surprised me.

@AmazonGrace, this was my first picture using my new and beautiful Prismacolour markers. I love them very much.  This design was a challenge, though, because it often required a finer nib. At times I found myself willing the colour into the spaces, while barely touching the page. The black background is the same problem, but magnified because, well, it's black. No forgiveness at all.

I know exactly what you mean about "willing the color" into the small spaces!  A narrow space with a Prisma brush/bullet tip takes the lightest of touches and a steady hand or the color spreads where you don't want it to. Sometimes no matter what you do, the color goes where you don't want it...that's the time for photo editing before you post the page picture!   :my_shy:

Exactly!  It happened quite a bit but I was pleased as punch at the number of elements I did without it jumping over. The black, however, is different story. It is basically impossible to do correctly with this marker. I may continue with it anyway, or I may wait until I get some finer tip ones.

I don't know how to edit out those kinds of mistakes!

Clone tool is helpful for a color run over or bad streak!

You're welcome.  I use the free online photo editor PicMonkey for my photos...easy and reliable.  Nothing fancy, but I subscribed to their Royale level for more options. The free part is still pretty good.

By the way, if you're interested, Blick now has the color Orchid available in their Winsor & Newton ProMarker line.  It's been out of stock for awhile now and since it's one of my favorite colors, I just ordered an extra one.  :marker:

Really???  That's great!  It's a gorgeous colour. We go home tomorrow so I will try to order it then. And thanks for the editing info too. You are very nice to share everything!

You're very welcome!  Grab your Orchid while you can...when I ordered it, the order page indicated that there were only 11 left.

Oh, no!  I will, thanks. I need to supplement now with some pretty colours. I like my Prismacolour  ones a lot and there are some colours that I really love. But, need more (Orchid). Plus, I'm anxious to get some of the other brands, too. Excited!

Dang!

And yes, I have been known to tap in tiny places.  It just works sometimes.

This is why I sometimes leave backgrounds white.

I committed to colouring everything before I realized it would look really pretty with just a few colours and leaving some white in the individual elements. One of the blues, for example, looked  very French and gorgeous with the white.  So, those of you who have Lost Ocean, I challenge you to do that page!!!!  It will only take a few days !

Looks awesome! It would have taken me 20 years to finish, so 20 hours is quite impressive :). And I'm jealous of the fancy markers everyone has. I'm still using gel pens. I'm going to have to break down and buy some good markers.

Okay I was blown away by the first pic, and then was totally blown away as you started the black background! My one good eye would explode if I tried this one! Good job!

That's incredible!!!!  I upvote you x10!  I keep flipping past that page in the book and being impressed with Basford's skill... so it's really nice to see one that has been coloured in :) I think you're mildly crazy by going even further and deciding to do the background in black - backgrounds are so much work!  But looking at what you've already done, it really makes the colours pop, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished!

Thanks, everyone for your nice comments!  I just wish to point out that Johanna Basford, who gives us these gorgeous pages, obviously has a mean streak. I had this thought repeatedly while trying to place colour into spaces (of her design!) that are too small to place colour.

oh my!  This is so gorgeous!  I love it.   What book was this one from?

I'm glad you like the prismacolors.  I was pretty sure you would.   This is just amazing.

I also like that you are coloring the background black.  It's really making it pop.   You definitely have lots of patience!

Thanks, Curious. It's from Lost Ocean again but now I'm back home and have access to my other books. Yay.

I don't know if anyone will see this here, but I actually finished the background. Not well, mind you.  I think it would have been impossible without this Prisma brush tip marker.  I don't have much to say about it. I don't really want to look at it anymore! :censored:

(By the way, I worked on this upside down so that it was on the right hand page, so my photos are also upside down, in case anyone wonders why the rings are in different locations than yours would be.)

It looks amazing...almost 3D!  I admire your work ethic in finishing a design like this and doing it so well...it would have driven me bonkers and made me dizzy.  The colors really POP!  :ENVOUTER:

Aw, thanks!  I am an all-or-nothing person and if I start something I can't let it go until it's finished. I like how it looks but I won't be doing any that are so detailed for quite some time, if ever!

This turned out great.  I really like it with the black background.  It really makes the other colors pop.  I love using rainbow colors with a black background.

My son was born with a head of straight, dark, almost black, hair. Within a month, it turned a mid blonde and stayed that way until high school when it turned dark brown with red tinges, which is also when it went super curly. We only had one kid, so I guess he’s just playing fair and splitting our genes right down the middle. Up until high school, he looked just like me. From high school on, just like his dad. Genetics are weird. 🤷‍♀️

Same here. 3 or 4 bathrooms in a house seem downright excessive to me. 😁 Here I would say nowadays the norm is 2 bathrooms in a house (sometimes, especially in older houses, only 1 bathroom upstairs where the bedrooms are plus an extra toilet downstairs where the living room/kitchen are). Similar in big apartments with 4 rooms, so living room plus 3 bedrooms or bigger. In smaller apartments, 1 bathroom is normal, in newly built ones often 1 bathroom and 1 extra toilet.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of a house that has as many bathrooms as bedrooms here. It’s just not a thing.

I don’t think all McMansions have this, but I’ve seen a lot that do. I babysat for a family that basically lived in a huge McMansion. And there were 7 bathrooms (2 of them were 1/2 bathrooms). I remember thinking I’m glad I’m the babysitter and not the house cleaner!

This is so infuriating. As someone with ADHD… fuck him.

He actually said parents just need to do a better job of parenting instead of giving them meds. That made me roll my eyes so hard.

I live in Europe, in a rural area. Houses are of all kinds of types and styles. I don’t think I have ever visited a house with more than three bathrooms/half baths. Usually no more than two. Master bedrooms en suite are practicality non existent in our area and definitely uncommon in the whole country.
