This is about Tony Evans. Sounds like it may be something from many years ago, but details are not available at this time.

Oh no! When I read it it wasn’t paywalled. I don’t know what happened. It’s super long though. So I can’t copy and paste.

The summary is that a fundie family adopted 5 children from another Christian homeschooling family that didn’t have the money to support their kids. The family that adopted the kids moved away from them and didn’t give them their address even though they had an agreement for visitation and phone calls. The dad didn’t like how things were going and tried to put a hit on the bio parents. He was caught and put in prison.

What bothers me now is that this mom of 16 kids (11 bio 5 adopted) is now the one with huge money problems. She can’t support all these kids. She’s in a similar position to the bio parents. So why don’t they work out an agreement for the adopted kids to go back to the bio parents? No one has money now. Maybe they can help each other out. Honestly that’s what should have happened. Those kids never should have been adopted. They should have just helped that other family out with things like childcare, clothing, food etc. I get so tired of adoptions based on lack of money. Why split up families because they are poor? It’s bullshit.

Robert Morris, pastor of mega church in Southlake, TX, has now admitted that he sexually abused a child, starting when she was 12, and continued this abuse for FOUR YEARS.  You might remember Robert Morris was an oversight pastor for Mark Driscoll, after Driscoll headed south to AZ and started his new church Christoscam, now with nepotism!

The usual clown car damage control rodeo (restoration process completed years ago, didn't do it again!, been forgiven, blah blah) is ongoing.

This has made it to CNN.  WFAA: Texas megachurch pastor admits past inappropriate behavior with ‘young lady’ after accusation of molesting 12-year-old

Morris: “When I was in my early twenties, I was involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady in a home where I was staying. It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong. This behavior happened on several occasions over the next few years,” the pastor said in his statement.

A 12-year-old child is not a "young lady".  The victim who came forward was clear that Robert Morris digitally raped her.  This is clearly pedophile behavior and Morris' victim is concerned that there are other victims.  She is also clear that her father did not want Morris returning to ministry, ever.

And may he be flattened under its wheels, scraped off the road, and end up in prison.

I find it hard to believe this ass hat is going to be let out of prison in a few years.  It seems like he should have been imprisoned until the youngest adopted child is an adult, like a 21-year-adult.

And everything about this is crazy.  The bio parents kept back one child and then had TWO MORE. WTAF?  And they gave their children away with no warning?   And the Michelle Pence thought that suddenly bringing in five kids who were suddenly abandoned by their parents would be easy when she already had a bazillion kids made sense?  And the Pence mom is still not allowing the adopted kids any contact with the bio mom and dad.

I'd assume the Pence's would ask for child assistance benefits but considering their beliefs, they probably aren't. They're also in Utah, but aren't Mormon, so don't know if there is any help from that quarter.

Here’s my guess. They bio parents got desperate. They didn’t have the money or help they needed and didn’t want their kids taken away by the state and put into different foster homes. So they asked this family to take the 5 kids, hoping they can see them and talk to them regularly. In order to maintain a relationship. When they realized how much they miss their kids in their day to day lives, they decided to have more children. It’s very possible they regretted allowing them to adopt their kids. But there was nothing they could do. So they had two more kids. And hoped they could keep in contact with their other kids. Then the family moved and didn’t forward their address. They tried to move near them because they missed their kids. But this likely just bothered the oPence family more and that’s when he looked to hire a hit man. If Mrs pence was smart, she would beg for the bio family to help out with child care and support now because she’s the one without a husband or money coming in.

Yes, my impression is they were indeed desperate, but reading between the lines in both articles,  bio dad had "issues" around his sexual boundaries.  Whether that was just rampant infidelity or (allegedly) CSA images shared with a child, who knows.  Did the bio mom want her children safe from her husband?  Hard to say, but those adopted kids felt betrayed by being given away to total strangers with extreme sin and redemption beliefs.  The Christmas "game" was beyond bizarre.

The entire situation is just nuts.

No, I agree that it’s not a 100% all the adoptive parents fault type of thing. But I just think that there were major power differences between the couples. One family had enough money to support a large family while the other didn’t. One family has CPS involved while the other didn’t. One family had a child with special needs that likely took up a ton of their time, money, and energy while the other didn’t. The one with much less power felt scared and desperate and couldn’t take it back.

Once again, Rick Pidcock provides a good overview of the Robert Morris debacle. He also points out that two other DFW-area mega-church leaders resigned abruptly from their church positions at about the same time as the news of Morrisʻ alleged crimes broke:

Quote

On June 9, Tony Evans stepped away for an unspecified period of time from the 10,000-member Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, a church he started in his living room and led for 48 years, explaining vaguely that he fell short of a standard “a number of years ago.”

One week later, Mike Buster resigned as executive pastor of the 45,000-member Prestonwood Baptist Church with one week’s notice to the congregation. Senior Pastor Jack Graham announced to the congregation on Father’s Day, June 16, that Buster was resigning and there would be a reception for him the next Sunday. That is highly unusual in a Baptist church, especially for someone who served as the pastor’s righthand man for 35 years.

Both Buster and the church have denied any wrongdoing is behind the resignation — in response to undocumented whispers of financial wrongdoing and an FBI investigation. But the suddenness of the announcement and the resignation has raised eyebrows.

Then four days after that, Robert Morris left his role as pastor of the 100,000-member Gateway Church after 24 years of ministry due to a multi-year assault on a girl who was 12 at the beginning. These assaults reportedly happened during the 1980s.

Maybe mega churches shouldn't be a thing?

Anway, somebody is pouring the damn tea and I hope to hear STAT what's behind this.  I have to wonder if someone is threatening lawsuits or tell-alls.  Just waiting for the "touch not mine anointed" and "it was a long time ago" and "but he repented!" and "she was a Jezebel" and "Satan goes after the most godly"  and "but he's such a GOOD and godly man!" ...

I find it odd that NO ONE discussing Robert Morris' abuse of a young girl has mentioned that what he did is a CRIME that, if committed today, would have landed him in prison and branded as a sex offender when he got out.

An awful situation that seems to be just now getting any attention. This family seems to have been evading attention by a Shrader-esque lifestyle - six kids, traveling by van. (Not sure, they may have had some kind of home base/housing in TN.)

The wife had filed for an order of protection in August. There are less severe charges against her, possibly for facilitating and failing to report (?)

No surprise to me that their "supporting churches" include FBCHammond (whose former pastor Jack Schaap spent a few years in federal prison for transporting a minor across state lines for sexual purposes).

Charges have been re-filed against both adults (not sure, maybe the other charges were too old??). Mrs. Garlick has an order of protection and has filed for divorce. Sounds like detectives are still looking for additional information. The identity of the child victims is still private and unknown to media or the public. Mr. Garlick remains incarcerated awaiting trial.

Since this thread often has sex abuse scandals, I thought I put this here.  The title of the article:

An Interview with An Accused Priest: A scorched hard drive, texts with a boy and a missing report

When Tony Cutcher learned that I was investigating why he resigned from active ministry following a scandal in 2021, he did what few priests accused of improper behavior have ever done: An interview.

Rick Pidcock has a good article on Matt Chandler, his father Steve, and The Village Church (SBC) in Denton, TX:

Quote

Now in 2024, we learn that Matt Chandler’s church hired his own sexually abusive father to be a custodian and gave him the keys to their building. It wasn’t until July 9 this year that this information became public knowledge thanks to Chris and Anna [on this podcast episode] sharing their story.... [Matt] Chandler has not been secretive about the history of sexual abuse in his family. He told John Piper in 2009 that his childhood home was filled with “every kind of abuse imaginable.” He admitted to Village Church in a 2006 sermon that his family history included sexual abuse by Chandler men. He told the SBC annual meeting in 2019 that his family has a history of sexual abuse.

According to the website, Notes from Poland, a site trying to get Polish news into the English speaking world,  a Polish priest who organized World Youth Day for the Catholic Church has been charged with sex abuse.

Quote

A priest who was Poland’s main national organiser for World Youth Day (WYD) – a major global event for young people held by the Catholic church – has been charged with sexual abuse and placed in detention.

This is not just Polish event; WYD happens around the world.

This latest one is just 🤦‍♀️.

Here's the Headline: St. Susanna pastor resigns years after destroying material tied to 'child pornography case'

Quote

The pastor of St. Susanna Parish in Mason resigned Monday after admitting he ordered the destruction of material connected to an investigation into images possibly showing child sexual abuse while working at another church years earlier.

It's a Catholic church in Mason, Ohio, which is near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Quote

The Rev. Barry Stechschulte apologized to parishioners more than two weeks ago for his role in the matter and said at the time he remained committed to "maintaining a safe environment here at St. Susanna," a large Catholic parish that also is home to a school. But on Monday, after hundreds of parishioners signed a petition seeking his removal as pastor, Stechschulte announced on the parish website he was leaving his post.

They had to petition him to leave!!

Quote

A police report said the material was discovered on an old computer that had been used by his predecessor, the Rev. Tony Cutcher, at Holy Rosary Church in St. Marys, Ohio. When the discovery was brought to Stechschulte's attention, the report said, he told a church deacon to destroy it.

The deacon told police he used a blow torch to burn the hard drive.

No words.

Cutcher, the offender, was not fired for this offense, because the evidence was destroyed.

Quote

Although Cutcher was not charged with a crime, the archdiocese removed him from ministry in 2018 after he was accused of sending inappropriate texts to a boy. Cutcher resigned as pastor of St. Peter's Church in Huber Heights, north of Dayton, in February of 2021 because of that accusation, archdiocese officials told The Enquirer at the time.

Apparently Stechschulte is still a priest. You can read the article here (link).
