Yes, the world's most famous openly gay pop star played in the country with Europe's most famous anti-gay government. It went really well, and I was there to tell the tale. Posted a review on the blog for any interested FJers.

What a lovely review - thank you. I am so glad things went well and that the audience was respectful overall.

Elton is pretty much my favorite human being on the planet outside my immediate family. He has been my favorite artist for 30 years. I've seen him 4 times live; no other concerts that I've been to (over 50) can ever compare.

As to your comment about his energy...it amazes me too. I think part of it is that he's been clean and sober for 21 years now, and his diet (pretty sure he's vegetarian). But most of all, I think his children have given him a completely new lease on life. Considering how long his grandmother lived and that his mum is still going strong, I'm hoping we'll have him around for at least another 20 years. :D

Yeah, he seemed noticeably more energetic and full of joie-de-vivre between 2010 (when they had no kids, though their first must have been on the way) and now, when they have two.
