I was just reading about this place. It seems that their President is making everyone evacuate the island and move elsewhere. I wonder if the boat family has a crazy idea that they will be living on a deserted island.

it's a long term, not short term, plan. there will be people in kiribati for a decent while yet.

(totally off topic: it's really interesting to compare the kiribati approach to sea level rise to the approach being taken by tavalu. it's not that there be forced evacuations. rather, the government is prioritising preparation for total relocation of the population once the island and atolls become uninhabitable. and then, disappears all together)
