Out of the Orthobox and "CollegeMinus"

A form of CollegeMinus is very popular among right-wing Yeshivish Orthodox Jews. They don't go through the Christian CollegePlus program, of course, but they take CLEPs and finish up with a few courses from either Thomas Edison or a local college. From Ruchi's Facebook, it looks like she's considering it for her eighteen-year-old daughter.

Update: She says in the blog comments that her daughter will attend a local college and live at home, because, "We feel her spiritual values will be far too difficult to maintain on campus."

Link please?

If "spiritual values" are a concern, it's not as if there aren't many legitimate universities that would fully support a student maintaining a high level of Orthodox Jewish observance. What about Yeshiva University? Or even Brandeis? Oh, right, we can't do that because we don't want our womenfolk to get too uppity from being all educated and stuff.

Wow, thats not a good excuse. Her daughter is old enough to go to college, therefore her spiritual values belong to herself and its up to her to maintain them, not mommy, daddy or any of the people she meets.

They are right-wing yeshivish, so Yeshiva University would be way too liberal. Brandeis is not an Orthodox school, so out of the question. I'm a little surprised they don't even consider Touro, though.

Ruchi describes a "panic-stricken" nightmare in which she fails at a religious obligation, starts to cry, and wakes up relieved that it was only a dream.

Maybe she doesn't find her version of right-wing Orthodoxy quite so peaceful and fulfilling as she often claims? I've had similar dreams about rituals, but only in times of religious conflict and stress.
