Apparently not happening, as the first didn't make enough money :(

As a huge fan of the series and the cast and crew involved I am very sad.

Ugh I am sad too! I thought the movie was very well-done and wanted to see the others.

The Swedish ones are all on Netflix with subtitles though. I also liked those - it was interesting to compare the differences between the Swedish and American versions.

Am I the only one who didn't think the books were that great?

I think they would have been a lot better if they'd been edited properly, and I suspect they weren't edited properly because the author died.

The Swedish movies were well done, and I liked Fincher's take. I was looking forward to seeing what he would do with the others because I think they would have been much better than the books.

I'm actually really glad. I know I'm in the minority, but I think that the entire franchise is totally misogynist. Lisbeth is not a strong female character just because she is a violent one.

I've never seen the movie, I enjoyed the 1st book (although was put off by the rape scene), but couldn't get through the 2nd. I liked the main male character (forgotten his name) better than Lisbeth, I thought she was annoying.

One of the things that bugged me the most was the way every single female had to sleep with Mikael because he's just so darn special.

I liked the books and the Sweedish movies. The American one wasn't bad but I thought it was a little silly to have to remake the movies when there are already a Sweedish version with subtitles.

I'd be interested to hear why you think that, MadameX. The series overall seemed to have two kinds of men: people who weren't emasculated by women and treated them as equals and really evil assholes. Sex that women have was portrayed as free choice or WRONGWRONGWRONG. Time and time again they showed how Lisbeth was marginalized because of her gender+stature. This marginalization was also portrayed as wrong. Overall it seemed to be suggesting that misogyny was so ingrained that extreme physical violence would be justified. I'd have characterized the series as VERY feminist. Did I miss something huge?

I think the issue comes from all the men either being Mikael or being complete and utter monsters. There aren't any shades of gray. And all of the monstrous men pick on this one woman to the point of it practically being torture porn. The reader is forced to wallow in Lisbeth's degradation time and time again. Her violent revenge is justified by their actions because their actions are so extreme.

I read the first book. I enjoyed the story, even though I agree the writing wasn't polished. Reading the rape scene and the scene in Martin's basement scared the shit out of me. During the basement scene in the Swedish movie, the hair was literally standing up on the back of my neck.

Lisbeth as a character i found interesting. The series was supposed to have seven books. I would have liked to see how her character evolved throughout. After I learned the series would never be finished, I decided not to read the rest of the books.
