Billy Graham has never been consider "fundy" by the fundies; he has been considered "liberal" (that's considered an insult by fundies) for decades- for things like integrating his crusades, working across multiple denominations, etc. He is now 93 years old (best I can figure) and is in extremely poor health and, to my knowledge, does not speak publicly any more. Not sure what his mental or physical status is by now..

He'd always seemed pretty fundie to me. 93 or not he's still cogent enough to be giving people spiritual & other types of advice, as seen in his new book (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi- ... 2568.story).

Maybe "fundy-lite"?

I like to think that he mellowed with age. I am actually not sure what his mental and physical health are as of right now.

I think he had the capacity to learn from some of his earlier errors in judgment. Besides his quite outspoken stand against racism, I can admire 2 other characteristics: his personal integrity, and his egalitarian marriage to Ruth Bell.

Billy Graham was one of the big motivating forces behind John R. Rice's and Bob Jones' exodus from the SBC in the '40s and '50s. Their theology was considered liberal by Rice and Jones, et al, and they separated from the Southern Baptists to form the unformed Independent Fundamental Baptists.

They felt that Billy was too ecumenical.
