SAHD admires Dita Von Tease's fashion style

I roll my eyes at most aspects of SAHD-dom but I have to admit I like some of the modest modern fashion tips, some of my fashion preferences align with theirs.

I did have to have a long and bewildered laugh as one SAHD whose blog is named couture for Christ praises Dita Von Tease for her glamorous and modest fashion style. Holy cognitive dissonance batman! I wonder if the poor girl didn't even realize that Dita Von Tease is a burlesque performer who performs topless and/or close to nude..

Dita Von Teese is glamorous but definitely NOT modest. She must have her confused with someone else.

Just going to guess and say she's only seen pictures in People. Her red carpet style is very old school glamour girl classic, and I could see where she'd get it from. Just pray this girl googles her sometime. The mindtrip!

I must admit that I love vintage dresses much more than modern ones and find that there cuts are more flattering on me.

Most modern dresses seem to be made for ruler shaped women in mind. I must admit that I love this girl's fashion style, but I wonder if she knows what burlesque means?

I think she has fantastic style, but I wouldn't classify anything she posted in that as modest attire. Yes, most of it isn't showing very much skin but it is and always has been sexy clothing. Even if people in the "old days" covered more skin they were still trying to send the same message people try and send today with their clothes. But it seems she's after classic (western) femininity more then modesty so I can see why she likes what she likes.

I find "Couture for Christ" to be an extremely tacky concept. What happened to "if you have two coats, give one away?" There's nothing wrong with loving stylish clothes nor with dressing modestly if that's what one wants to do, but something about this blog's name (and content) rubs me the wrong way.

Also, she has these two quotes on her sidebar:

1 Timothy 2:9-10 Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness -- with good works.

I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and... I believe in miracles.

Audrey Hepburn

One of these things is not like the other ...

Ooh, a new blog to love! Thank you!

This one is giving me Aristasian flashbacks but I think I see what she is getting at. She has pics of women with sleeveless tops etc, so it's the vintage/elegant thing she admires. Tilting fairly far away from the frumpers and white tennis shoes aspect of fundieanity ;) She also seems to believe that modesty is shown in good behaviour, not an insane list of rules.

I like fashion blogs and style blogs even though I am the most unstylish person ever to walk the planet. Today, I am clad in jeans, union tshirt and union hi-viz, accessorised with placard (about to go on a demo). But there is something charming about "couture for Christ"...

Mind you, I am only partway into her blog. Undoubtedly soon there will be something which makes me run away screaming back to the welcoming arms of FJ.

Lawl. Especially considering that Dita did porn back in the day.

And not only is Dita a burlesque performer and a former porn actress, she did - gasp! - lesbian porn!

Wow, I had a good long laugh over this one. If I were mean, I would send her a clip I once saw of Dita in a very modest latex bodysuit (hey, no skin showing!) pleasuring another woman with a big latex dildo. All for the glory of god, of course. Hey, I bet she was very "submissive" to Marilyn Manson in their marriage too....

Also, I'm an atheist, but "Couture for Christ" even makes me slightly offended. What a ridiculous name.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that occurred to. Good thing I have a conscience in spite of being a Godless atheist ;)

Agree "Couture for Christ" is silly. Last time I checked Jesus in the gospels seemed to have better things to do than obsess about hemlines and sleeves.

What's also funny is that for fundies "covered up" and "modest" are synonimous. Yes, Dita isn't showing much flesh in the vintage outfits, but she's still incredibly sexy, possibly more so than if she had on a miniskirt and a tiny tank top.

I love Dita's vintage style as well, but its not modest.

I cannot believe someone found a fundie fashion blog, my two favorite things in one blog!

I saw Dita Von Teese in Las Vegas a couple of years ago at the MGM.... the finale of her act was sitting in an old fashioned claw-foot bathtub topless splashing bubbles at the front row. Definately NOT fundie approved!

She is amazing in person though... I love her style

there's a possibly added on disclaimer now saying she doesn't 'endorse' this woman, blah blah blah morals and such... anyway.

i didn't see it when it was new, but here it is now:

"However, before I start, I need to make a statement: I do NOT endorse all of the people I choose as style examples, and I do NOT endorse all of their clothing, and I do NOT endorse all of their actions or professions. Please keep that in mind as I choose models of gorgeous style. :)

Today's example will be.... Dita Von Teese! As I said above, I do NOT endorse this woman, at all. (Emphasis on NOT) She is probably going to be the person I least admire in conduct and morals this series, and I would never post her unless she had truly stunning style. I hope I have made that clear! Enjoy! :D"

It's funny someone is posting this because I often wondered why there aren't more fundy girls who are into vintage: it looks way prettier than a frumper or long skirt with a polo, it's often very modest (skirts at least knee-lenght, 3/4 sleeves), and don't they idealize the 50's housewife?

I find it very funny that this blogger looks completely oblivious to the fact that Dita is a former porn star. Cherry-picking anyone?

I love the vintage look, but it's too much work for me. I know some girls have the pin-up look every day, one of the secretaries I work with does. I'd rather keep it for special events such as Christmas, weddings, big parties.

Let us be elegant or die! Snort. Does she list her age anywhere? I could see me posting something stupid like that when I ten or twelve. I was a dramatic package of self importance.

On another post on this blog she says this...

"Men and women were both created in God's image, but they were made uniquely. Differently. Men are distinct from women, and women are distinct from men. No one tries to refute that concept. In the secular world, {for me, that means non-Christians}, all sorts of theories are coming up to try and describe this difference. Some of them are more crazy sounding than others: books like "Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus" attempt to explain what makes us different. I'm sorry, but separating our origins to distinct planets is a wee bit over the top. ;)"

couture-for-christ.blogspot.com/2011/06/whats-big-deal-with-skirts.html

When I first read that sentence I thought she was joking, but the rest of the post gives no hint about it. Does she really believe that is what "Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus" is about?

I must say I adore her fashion sense. :-D I agree with some people above who said vintage looks better on them... I have a pretty shapely figure (though not overweight, just not stick thin), and it seems most clothes nowadays are cut ONLY for size 0-6. :-P They look good on my smaller sister (size 8), but not on me (size 12). I think I should look into vintage for style... I adore hats, gloves, scarves, pins, flowers... :-D

And I agree with those above, fashion isn't "for God". :-P I am a Christian, but I don't "wear this for God" or "not wear that for God". :-P

From the same post linked above:

It won't be easy. But it wouldn't be worthwhile if it wasn't hard, and Jesus does say that there will be times where we must suffer for his kingdom. No, I doubt you will ever be thrown in a lion's den like Daniel, but you might face ridicule and difficulties.

This isn't about going out and feeding starving children or helping those in need, this is about not wearing pants and wearing skirts instead. I am 110 % sure that Jesus wasn't talking about couture fashion when he said those things. I'm also sure that couture is way down on the list of things Christ cares about.

It also isn't that revolutionary a concept to wear skirts instead of jeans. I haven't worn trousers/jeans for six years, mainly because they don't suit my figure, and I've never been made to feel weird for doing so. I think all of these fundie girls who anticipate ridicule for dressing in skirts/gowns completely misunderstand the secular world.

How dare she compares getting funny looks / being asked questions because you're wearing a skirt, to the horrendous tortures the early Christians saints have endured? Seriously? I am not the least bit religious but I find it offensive.

Ridicule and difficulties are not fun, but they are certainly not torturing or killing the person facing them, and they are not exclusive to Christians! The women on the French side of my family have ridiculed me plenty of times for my goth aesthetics, because in their culture most women go all-natural (no hair dye, minimal makeup and wardrobe) and it has hurt my feelings many times, but these are just words! Forgive and forget!

Couture for Christ? Puh-leaze.

DVT's style really is amazing though.

Love her blog but I am sure it is frowned upon in Fundie-Land
