Is anyone familiar with the Reback family with 16 kids? I stumbled across them on Youtube, and they're waaay too perfect. They have a website, therebacks.com, and a book "Please God, Don't Let Me Screw This Up."

That's a rabbit hole I do not have time to fall down today!

Very Southern with heavy make up. She refers to herself as Fundamentalist Christian. And I would guess the adoptions involved abortion diversions given they were all newborns and nearly all white.

But they do sports and allow kids to wear appropriate attire for sporting. I can't see if they are skirts only or if the pictures I glanced at were skirts appropriate occasions.

One of their older daughters is a triathlon competitor! This doesn't look like anything a "skirts-only" fundie would wear, to me. ;)

Yep, there are alot of fundie families like that on this end. They do normal things like dress trendy, play sports, sip a beer. But for some reason the young men join the Marines. What is it with fundamentalist Christian, men joining the Marines??

Because it's one of the few jobs where you can financially support a middle class family existence without going to college.

Boy Children who graduate from SODRT have generally have fairly limited options: they can either go into small business, which simply is not as easy as SteveMax or some of the other patriarchs would have us believe, they can be apprenticed out to learn a trade, which doesn't seem to be that common unless it's within an already existing family business, or they can go into agriculture, which is even more difficult than the small business option, despite what some happy, shiny bloggers want to tell us.

Even if the parents are okay with sending their their arrows into the den of iniquity and humanist thought that is college, and even if the education they provided at SODRT is up to par, most QF families simply do not have the resources to send a kid to college.

The military is pretty much the only area where you can start with nothing more than a GED, be trained to a specialist area with all expenses paid, and have a safety net provided for your family. When I see young QF families already struggling to eke out an existence when they only have a handful of very young children, and knowing things are only going to get harder, I wonder why more don't enlist.  There's no denying its downsides, but it's often a heck of a lot better than the other options.

I don't see many enlisting at all. I used to live near a base and there were quite a few military families in my own generation homeschooling, but I have wondered why more of the families followed here don't have boys joining.

Because it's been drilled into their brains by asshats like Doug Phillips and Geoff Botkin that the US military is now run by The Gays and The Marxists.

While joining the military would have been a good opportunity for graduates of the SOTDRT in the past, it's not really an option now. All of the branches of the US military have dramatically curtailed the number of GED-only recruits they will take, because their internal studies have shown that GED-onlies tend to not do well. If you have a GED, you usually have to do at least a year, if not a full associate's worth of college credit in order to get the military to take you. I spent the past several years working in high schools, and the kids who wanted to join the military were all told (by military recruiters) that they needed an HS diploma, and that they'd need an AA before they could get in if they only had a GED. So I can see where fundies would find it less appealing...

I know I shouldn't but I snickered at the statement about their sons all obviously playing football like any good Southerner would...all I think is "I'm really happy to give ALL my sons brain damage to fulfill some idea that I have of what makes a Southern man."

The research is pretty decisive at this point and youth football registration is going down pretty fast nationwide, even in the South (where I live). I don't judge parents who do allow their kids who obviously love it to play...but just the insistence that they must play, no matter what, despite the long-term neurological consequences, riles me up a bit.

There is a special enlistment clause for homeschoolers. However, HSLDA advises if you are enlisting do not take the GED but issue a parental issued diploma.

The HSLDA info states that the military will ask for some proof that you were really homeschooled but I happen to know xbil enlisted in the Army with the homeschooling clause and no proof was ever required given that he was actually a 6th grade drop out whose mother circumvented truancy laws in a very lax homeschooling state by calling him homeschooled until he was legally old enough to drop out.

I'm sure some of them are also conscientious objectors.

You don't need a GED when you graduate from homeschool, so that shouldn't be a factor.

Maybe a small number, but most I know are very patriotic and pro military, militia and guns.
