I had no idea that female genital mutilation had ever been performed in America.  Apparently no one was ever punished for it?  Is it known for sure that the practice has died out?  What religion was it that was so afraid of masturbation that they deformed their children's genitals to keep them from 'sinning'?

Ciltorectomies are still done as an acceptable "standard of care" for girls born with a clitoris that is "too large."

I learned about fgm while in college (with it usually occurring in African countries), but I had no idea it was happening here in the US. It's a disgusting practice that needs to be stopped!
