Melissa Scott??

I've said before that I'm about 99% athiest. I'm also an insomniac, and tend to peruse late night tv. 5 or 6 years ago I was channel surfing and came across Melissa Scott. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that she intruiges me very much. I know next to nothing about her - googling her brings up everything from her being a genius to a former porn star. From what I gather her husband who was old enough to be her grandpa was a nutcase and a generic rich asshole televangilist who liked having young pretty girls around. I think what I liked so much about her was that it felt more like 'teaching' than 'preaching', it was more of a class. Listening to her didn't make me a believer and I sure as hell didn't send any money her way, but I got into the habit of watching a few times a week for years. In the last year or so the local station quit carrying her so I haven't watched in awhile.

I was just wondering what the educated opinions of FJ think about her? Why did I like her so much? Whats her story?

I've only watched her once or twice, but my impression was that she did her homework and she expects you to do yours.

A question and 32 pages of comments that cover just about everything I've ever read or observed about her. If you look at her official website (where you can watch her videos 24/7) you'll see that the emphasis is on sending money "directly to Pastor," but you won't ever get a receipt for tax purposes. (Whenever I see a minister/pastor referred to as "Pastor" as if it were a given name it's a red flag.) There's no statement of beliefs, so who knows what she believes? She rambles a LOT.

Thanks guys, I'll read the link about the Q&A. I knew he was a charleton and had some pretty strange ideas. In addition, she does call herself 'pastor' yet she didn't go to seminary anywhere. She's just always intruiged me. Thanks for the info!

ETA: By the 5th page of that post (linked above) they are all going after each other for various reasons and the thread has nothing to do with Melissa Scott anymore lol. This drives me nuts about people in general - we all have our passions, likes/dislikes, but some cannot seem to accept the same for others, most especially when it comes to religion. One of the things that turns me off most about christianity is the whole "my god is better than your god".
